Scout House Presentation At Cambridge City Hall

| |

Representatives of all five Preston Scout House Band Inc. member groups participated in a performance and presentation at Cambridge City Hall on May 21, to thank city council for continuing financial support and to update councillors on Scout House community activities.

Council recently approved a $4,000 grant to Scout House, continuing a tradition of support that dates back to early Preston Scout House Band activities in the 1940s. Scout House also recently received a $1,400 grant from the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF), supported by anonymous donor funding and the Marion Woeller Community Arts Fund.

City of Cambridge support for Scout House activities in 2019 includes offering space for Scout House Cadets drum and bugle corps to rehearse during the month of June. Cadets’ rehearsals will shift to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Preston in July. The move to a new location was made necessary when Scouts Canada announced that the Preston Scout House building long used for Scout House Band activities will be closed and locked on June 1 when Scouts Canada gives up its longtime lease. Under the terms of the lease withdrawal, the building must remain unused and empty for six months before ownership transfers to the city.

All Scout House groups participated in a benefit concert for St. Peter’s Church in late April, as a thank you for the church providing rehearsal space after Scout House Band lost the use of facilities at the Preston Knights of Columbus building when it was sold in early 2018. Scout House Band currently rehearses at St. James’ Anglican Church in Hespeler.

Scout House groups have been heavily involved in community events in 2019, including participation in indoor colour guard and drum line shows in Kitchener, Waterdown and Hamilton; concerts in Preston, Waterloo, Waterdown and Hamilton.

Preston Scout House Band Inc. is the umbrella group that includes Preston Scout House Band, Scout House Cadets drum and bugle corps, Silver Leaves Brass, Heritage Drill Team and Magic of Scout House competitive winter guard.
