DCUK Cancel 2020 Competitive Season

| |

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, nearly four weeks ago DCUK announced that the first two contests of this coming season had been cancelled with the third show on 19th July being highly unlikely to be able to take place. On Monday 20th April the 2020 Drum Corps United Kingdom Member Corps, together with members of the DCUK management team, discussed at length the viability of a competitive Drum Corps season in the UK this summer. Having taken into account, amongst other things, members health and safety, rehearsal time & venue availability it was, with heavy hearts, unanimously agreed to the cancel the remainder of the DCUK 2020 competitive season.

This decision was not taken lightly but with the continued uncertainty about when social gathering restrictions might be lifted and, when they are, to what extent there still might be issues surrounding larger events, the cancellation of all our competitive events removes the current uncertainty and lets Corps make plans for 2021 plus alleviates the pressure that would potentially be put on Corps to produce a competitive “product” this year without any guarantee they would be able to perform it.

During the discussion it was apparent that a number of Corps had been fairly well advanced with their musical programmes and, once again, dependent on when and what restrictions are lifted, then it may be possible to hold an event later in the year that would allow Corps to showcase the work they have done and this would be looked into and discussed with the Corps at a later date.

So for the first time in our 41 year history there will be no DCUK contests in 2020 but believe us when we say that we will make sure that 2021 will now be one hell of a celebration of our fantastic and exciting activity – we will see you there.
