In The News: Day Of Summer Festival Parade, Show Changes

The Summer Festival parade and drum-and-bugle corps show will be on a Sunday this year, Summer Festival Chairman Joe Doyle said Monday.

The Summer Festival Committee formally approved the change earlier this month. It was necessary because Drum Corps International scheduled the drum show for Sunday, July 6, at Ames Field. The show typically had been on the night of the parade, which always has been on a Saturday.

However, to draw the DCI show and its name units, the show had to be set for Sunday, Doyle said. Many of the corps would not be in Michigan City early enough to participate in the Summer Festival parade if it was held on Saturday, he said. About 10 units will be in Michigan City in time for an exhibition on Saturday night, he said.
