Arthur Johnson Jr. is following in his father’s footsteps as a world champion, but he’s doing it with drumsticks instead of boxing gloves. The 2009-10 Mandarins Brass Academy will begin Sunday, September 6, 2009. The MBA is dedicated to raising the skill level of brass playing for brass students in high school or college, who are motivated to enhance their level of brass performance. Rochester’s Empire Statesmen sailed into a solid second place finish in the wake of undefeated Reading Buccaneers in the Pageant of Drums contest in Cicero, New York on August 15.
