2011 Scout House Summer Field Show Schedule

| |

Preston Scout House Alumni Band will share the field with the top competitive corps in Drum Corps International (DCI) and Drum Corps Associates (DCA) at contests in Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York this summer, during a schedule reminiscent of Scout House summer tours in the 1950s and 1960s that regularly took the band from the upper U.S. Midwest to the Atlantic coast.

Scout House will be performing its field show in exhibition at three contests in the United States, two alumni exhibitions in Ontario and will be featured for the ninth time in the DCA Alumni Spectacular field show in Rochester, New York during the annual DCA championship tournament weekend. In addition, Scout House will be marching in parades during several of Ontario’s major festivals over the summer.

The tour begins June 25 with the DCI Western Michigan contest in Grand Rapids, an early season meeting of eight corps: the Cavaliers of Rosemont, Illinois; Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio; Carolina Crown of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; Blue Stars of La Crosse, Wisconsin; Glassmen of Toledo, Ohio; Troopers of Casper, Wyoming; Teal Sound of Jacksonville, Florida; Racine Scouts of Racine, Wisconsin.

Scout House returns to Rochester, New York on July 16 for its second appearance at the Vince Bruni Preview of Champions. The DCA show features Excelsior of Troy, New York; White Sabers of Dansville, New York; three time DCA champion Hurricanes of Seymour, Connecticut and five time DCA champs Empire Statesmen of Rochester.

The next field appearance will be at the Cavalcade of Champions in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where Scout House has been immensely popular since the original band appeared in the Cavalcade nine times between 1956 and 1966. The Cavalcade of Champions competing corps this year are: Fusion Core of Morris County, New Jersey; six time DCA champion Bushwackers of Windsor, New Jersey; Minnesota Brass of St. Paul, Minnesota; Connecticut Hurricanes; Reading Buccaneers, defending DCA champions and winners of six straight titles since 2005.

On Saturday, August 6, Scout House will perform for the third year in a row in the Toronto Optimists Alumni Legends of Drum Corps III field show in Oshawa, Ontario. On August 20, the Scout House Invitational Tattoo will salute the bandmasters and drum majors who put music on the march in Ontario over the past half-century. The field show will feature Scout House, Les Diplomates du Quebec, Toronto Optimists Alumni, Simcoe United Alumni, Burlington Teen Tour Band and the Guelph Pipe Band. The season winds up at Rochester Rhinos Stadium on Sunday, September 4 with the DCA Alumni Spectacular field show, where in 2006 the audience chose Scout House as one of the top three most entertaining alumni drum and bugle corps in North America.

Extensive summer travel is nothing for Scout House members. At its peak in the 1950s and early 1960s, Scout House traveled up to eight thousand miles a year while winning more than 80 international, national, provincial and regional titles in performances across the eastern half of the continent from Minnesota through Ontario and Quebec to the northeastern U.S.A and the Atlantic seaboard
