Commentary: There Is No Off-Season
Winter Guard International (WGI) is the performer’s hotspot for elementary to collegiate-level students who want to participate competitively during the winter season, which runs from January to April. This has recently become an equal opportunity experience year-round for wind and brass ensembles, as well as color guard and percussion.
Several choose to do WGI secondary to drum corps or high school marching band as a way to “stay warm” during the off season; however for others, an off-season does not exist.
