Battle’s O’er – A Nation’s Tribute 11th November 2018

Marching Band Activity United Kingdom is delighted to assist in promoting, Battle’s O’er – A Nation’s Tribute 11th November 2018, the nation’s tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War,along with paying tribute to the millions that either lost their lives during, or after the war ended on 11th November 1918. This unique event will mark the day exactly a century ago when the guns fell silent at the end of what was later referred to as ‘The Great War’.

Additional support for the initiative is being provided by the likes of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, Royal Naval Association, ABF Soldiers Charity and the Merchant Navy Association, with Brass and Marching Band and players invited to join 1,000 pipers, 1,000 buglers and 100 Town Criers to coincide with the ringing of the church bells and the lighting of WW1 ‘Beacons of Light that night.


Pipe Bands:-The Playing of Battle’s O’er,the traditional piece of music played on the Pipes at the end of a battle, to be played by Pipers at locations of THEIR choice (Excluding Cathedrals) throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Island, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories at 6.00am on the morning of 11th November 2018. For example, Pipers could undertake this that morning at local War Memorials, Churches, Market Squares or other prominent public locations etc, etc (Those wishing to take part should confirm their involvement by going to –battlesoer [at] collegeofpiping [dot] org as soon as possible please)


Marching Bands – which include Bugle and Trumpet Players:– The Playing of the Last Post at locations of their choice (Excluding WW1 Beacons of lights sites) at 6.55pm, during the evening of 11th November 2018. For example, Buglers and Trumpeters could undertake this at local War Memorials, Churches, Market Squares or other prominent, public locations that night etc, etc (Those wishing to take part in the playing of the Last Post should confirm their involvement by providing the following information to – brunopeek [at] mac [dot] com as soon as possible please).

Throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and in partnership with Battle’s Over – A Nation’s Tribute, Marching Bands Activity United Kingdom, is asking those wishing to take part to provide the information requested as soon as possible please, or by 25th March, 25th July and 25th October 2018, to enable them to be listed correctly in the Guide To Taking Part in the event that can be viewed and downloaded from –, along with sending them further information over the forthcoming months
