TMB And Cory Band In Development Partnership Deal

The World’s Number One Ranked Brass Band, the Cory Band from South Wales, and the 2019 Drum Corps United Kingdom (DCUK) Junior Class British Champions enter into a Development Partnership deal which will see the Cory Band come to Essex on May 16 2020 to perform a guest slot at the Indoor Music Games (IMG) as well as put on a full concert at the Thurrock Civic Hall later that evening.

Part of the partnership will see the youngsters of Thurrock Marching Brass spend some time with the best band in the world in a weekend workshop that will no doubt have lifelong lasting impact on all those taking part.

Speaking of the association, Thurrock Marching Brass’ Chairman Paul Morgan comments: “It has been a hope of mine to be able to bring the incredible Philip Harper and his Cory Band to Essex for many years now. Philip, who grew up in the county, is one of the banding world’s most prolific composers and arrangers and his work is admired globally. His success with the Cory Band has been a unity that has seen the band see off all-comers at the top of the rankings. His love of music, and especially in encouraging young musicians, is a perfect fit for Thurrock Marching Brass, whose own average age sits at just over 11 years currently. This couldn’t be any more exciting for the youngsters at TMB as we all embrace what is a hugely friendly David and Goliath partnership through this association. To bring Philip and the Cory Band together to Essex for the very first time is an incredible honour and two opportunities to experience the band are now in place. The first during the early afternoon on May 16 2020 at the IMG Essex show in Basildon, plus a full concert in the evening at the Thurrock Civic Hall. More details of these two events and how you can come along will be posted very shortly, but for now I would like to thank Philip Harper and everyone at the Cory Band for allowing us to support them and for making their way to Essex on May 16 2020 to entertain us all.”

Adding to this, Neil Blockley at the Cory Band says: “We are delighted to be entering into this partnership with Thurrock Marching Brass and we look forward to developing a close musical friendship in the future. We are really looking forward to performing at the two events in Essex as it will give us an opportunity to perform in that area for the first time in some years. We performed at an IMG event a few years ago and we think this is a great way to get more young people involved with the banding movement as it focuses on fun and entertainment. Thurrock Civic Hall concert is an excellent venue and provides a perfect opportunity for the people of Essex to see Cory at their best.”

Cory’s musical set will include a number of Drum Corps favourites such “La Suerte de Los Tontos” as well as brass band favourites, so there will be a varied program to suit all tastes.
