City Of Cambridge Awards $3,500 To Scout House
Cambridge City Council has presented a $3,500 grant to Preston Scout House Band Inc., continuing a tradition of annual support that dates back to early Preston Scout House Band activities in the 1940s.
As with many other music and arts groups, Scout House member groups have been inactive since March because of strict provincial and municipal regulations to help reduce the impact of the COVID-19 virus. The city grant is particularly important this year, because Scout House, like all other marching arts organizations, has been unable to earn revenue from paid performances. There have been no parade or concert opportunities for seven months, and none likely in the near future.
Scout House Band Inc. has ongoing expenses for such items as insurance, office supplies, website maintenance, Wilf Blum Youth Music Scholarship awards, advertising and promotion, association membership fees.
Scout House also receives an annual grant of about $1,400 from the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF), supported by anonymous donor funding and the Marion Woeller Community Arts Fund. The Foundation has extended extra support to community groups this year by providing early 2021 grants which normally would not be distributed until the new calendar year
Preston Scout House Band Inc. is the umbrella group that includes Preston Scout House Band, Scout House Cadets drum and bugle corps, Silver Leaves Brass, Heritage Drill Team and Magic of Scout House competitive winter guard.
Preston Scout House Band, Inc. is a non-profit corporation with registered charity status able to issue tax receipts to donors, incorporated under the Corporations Act of the Province of Ontario on November 29, 1956. The multi-unit organization offers individuals the opportunity to “Arrange the soundtrack of your life” in marching arts activities starting at age 8 and continuing throughout life.
