Preston Scout House Band is one of four area organizations nominated for the 2023 Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Organization of the Year (under 10 employees) award. The winner will be announced during an ceremony on Monday, November 13 at Hamilton Family Theatre in the Galt neighbourbood of Cambridge.

The other three nominees are: Dawn Centre, Ontario Christian Gleaners, Shelter Movers Waterloo Region.

In 2013, Scout House won the inaugural award to a large non-profit group in the Chamber’s first annual Community Awards program. Preston Scout House Band and founder Wilf Blum are included in the City of Cambridge Hall of Fame. Blum and seven other Band members (Geoff Adeney, Gord Cupskey, Paul Leppek, Jim Symons, Nancy Weiler, Tom Weiler, Roy Wilson) are also in the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame.

The annual Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Awards celebrate the success of volunteers and staff of local not for profit organizations, other groups and service clubs through collaboration and exceptional leadership. More than 60 nominees representing about 40 organizations will be recognized in nine award categories. A new Arts and Culture Award category this year recognizes an individual, ensemble or organization that has contributed significantly to the local cultural scene in the past year.

Several hundred community leaders and guests are expected to attend this year’s award ceremony, one of the Chamber’s most popular events.

Preston Scout House Band Inc. is a non-profit corporation with registered charity status able to issue tax receipts to donors, incorporated under the Corporations Act of the Province of Ontario on November 29, 1956.

The current active unit is Silver Leaves Brass, an all-age award winning brass ensemble appearing in more than a dozen area parades and concerts this year.
