PJ Tankard Presents at Wisconsin State Music Conference

On Thursday, October 23, PJ Tankard, Color Guard Caption Head for the Madison Scouts, presented “Color Guard Tips & Tricks for Band Directors” at the Wisconsin State Music Conference. The session, sponsored by Forward Performing Arts, attracted approximately 35 attendees — a mix of college students, future music educators, and current band directors.

Drawing from his extensive experience with the Madison Scouts, AMP Winterguard, Rutgers University Marching Band, and numerous high school programs across the Northeast, Tankard provided practical insights on building and managing successful color guard programs. Participants learned key terminology for color guard equipment (flags, rifles, and sabers), proper care and maintenance techniques, foundational dance terms and movements, and effective instructional strategies.
