Florida Brass Looking At Great 2016-2017 Season
The Florida Brass Drum and Bugle Corps is now going on its 14th year and each season the corps is turning out a larger and much more entertaining group in the sunshine state.
The Brass started in 2003 with seven horns now they are putting out close to fifty plus horns at area high school band competitions, concerts and parades in Florida. The corps would like to hit sixty horns within the next two years. There are openings in the Florida Brass at this time in the horn and drum line and also in the guard. The Brass has members from high school, college and past members from DCI and DCA that either move to Florida and or retired to the sunshine state. The busy season for the corps is from the fall to the late spring months when it’s cooler. But they do perform concerts indoors during the summer.
Some of the events the Florida Brass will do this fall and winter season are, an exhibition at the Space Coast high school band competition, a concert at St. Marks Church in Tampa, the Christmas parade in Marco Island, two indoor concerts this winter one in Port Charlotte and the other in Bradenton, Florida. And the St. Patty’s day parade in Vero Beach. And a few more events being put together at this time.
This 2016-2017 season will be one of the corps best, with more horns, more drums and a larger honor guard. Music arranger and horn instructor Dick Burns assisted by Stephen Simmons plan on having a very entertaining music arrangement this season. With music from Broadway to a sizzling Latin rhythm to good old drum corps style music, along with a nice blend of patriotic songs.
Ron Daw has worked the drum line to wear they are making those sticks roll, and sound like one. Ron will once again write and teach the line this season as the drum line fills in with members, some of which have close to fourteen years with the corps. Ron has been with the Florida Brass for eleven years now.
Mark Daniels will continue to lead the corps on the field of exhibitions and conduct the corps on stage for his 14th year being drum major for one of the most talented musical groups in Florida. Mark was a member of the Yankee Rebels DCA competition corps from Baltimore, Maryland.
Martin Anguilli is the corps director and plays lead soprano with the Florida Brass, he also is going on his 14th year being with the corps and was co-founder of The Florida Brass. Marty also played in a few well known DCA corps during his fun in drum corps.
The Florida Brass Drum and Bugle Corps has rehearsal twice a month at the Lakeland Elks Club in Lakeland, Florida on the south end of town.
