This was a great show and a great day overall. I basically did the parking lot tour for most of the night ... with the exception of CT & Cabs so that is all I can really comment on.
CT has a great show. As everyone has said, the colorguard is phenominal -- and its only June!!!!!!! The show itself is very enjoyable. As I said to most of them in the parking lot, it seemed to taper out a little towards the end ... but again -- its only June.
Cabs were just the opposite for me, the started off slow. Once they hit the ballad, the hit it hard. I won't comment on any particular section ... its only June. (See a theme here ... LOL).

I must say that I don't really post much. But being a member of the Empire Statesmen in 2006 (colorguard), it is very interesting to see the points that people are making about this -- almost 3 years later. Everyone has valid points and I love to see what people think. Normally if you were to do this type of thread a week after finals ... you usually get people who are upset or disappointed talking from there "hearts" and with much emotion on the subject. Its nice to see a non-heated "debate".
IMO - sorry if I offended anyone with this post.

On behalf of the Quinn family, please accept our deepest condolences. Cakes, we are thinking of you & your family in this sad time. May Brenda rest in peace.

Hey Ron,
Just saw your post about this being your first time in 10 yrs not being at finals ... I feel your pain. This is the first time in 17 years that I am not at finals and I was going up until the beginning of the week. Even the two years when I wasn't marching, (one with Sky when we didn't make the field - 1998 & my first "retirement" year - 2007), I was there.
Good luck to the top ten tomorrow and the Class A "4".
"Doin' It Statesmen Style!!!!!"

This is a great loss to the Drum Corps Community. Having known Sean & his entire family my entire life and having marched with Sean for the better part of my ten years with the Skyliners -- this news is very sad. Sean was a great guy who always had a joke at hand and LOVED to pick on me. He was a great man and an even better friend. I must say that I am honored to have known Sean.
Sean, you will truly be missed.
To the Holton family and my fellow Skyliners (new & old) -- my family and I send our deepest condolences.

Have a great weekend guys!!! Miss you all ... see you in Feb!

I was 8 when I started drum corps (Jr. = St. Ignatious Girls/New Image)
I was 12 when I became an "official member" of the New York Skyliners, 11 if you want to count the year I was "support/pick".
And if you want to go back even further, I was 5 when I started in a parade corps called Bill's Boys.

Gus was a legend. He will be deeply missed by all of those who had the chance to know him. He was a great man.
Rest in Peace, Gus.
We all love you and will miss you!

I'll go back into the "wayback machine" and give props to:
Tommy Martin.
Tommy Swan.
Bill Hightower.
John Simpson.
Awesome players from back in the day.
Fran
Good call Fran. I have most of them playing in my dad's collection of Vinyl. Along with Pepe and Hy ... I actually got to march in the same corps with Ruben back in the day. Love listening to that baritone of his.
One mellophone soloist from that era .............. Eddie "Dirty Eddie" Lawerence nice sound from him too.
-
You've definately opened a can of worms with this one.
From my 14 years in DCA these are my favs ...
George "Sidemouth" Richardson (RIP my friend)
Genovive (Brigs Baritone) -- sorry I don't know her last name and I apparently can't spell her first name but that girl makes me cry everytime she plays
Ponzo
My sister Gina (mellophone soloist when she was with Skyliners alllllllllooooooonnnnnngggggg time ago!!! LOL) -- ok, I'm a little biast with that one!
And Jim Wise (Empire Statesmen Contra) -- so what if he only gets to do it when we play a victory gig or a parade ... he's still awesome. I'm a little biast with that one too cause I haven't heard too many Contra soloists & I march with him. He ranks right up there with Ray "Konga" Richardson -- the "Dancing Soloist" on that one. And who would have guessed ... its the same solo!
So there ya go ... at least one from every section. I'm sure no one agrees with me on most of those, but hey ... I gave my opinion.

My heart goes out to Konga, Debbie, the Entire Skyliner Field Corps, and the Skyliner Alumni.
I have know the Richardsons my entire life and marched with both Konga and Sidemouth. He truly is a legend and will be greatly missed.
Konga and Debbie, I love you both~!*

has anyone heard how we did in Dayton?
They took third with an 80.2

Devon's going to Phantom? As in our Devon the contra beast?
That was the original plan. However, I believe that has changed.

I have a Google News search set up for anything containing "drum corps" so, if a particularly interesting drum corps story comes along, I can post it on the DCP front page. Your family story came up in one of the alerts and I figured y'all would want to see it.
Cool, Gadget. BTW ~ the picture they used was the one from this past championships with Gina and I wearing our medals!!!!! Yeah!!!
-
Oh and one more thing ... I can understand a reporter getting it wrong ... but is it to much to ask for my "family" to spell my name right! LOL
-
Hey, everybody.
I came across this artitcle about Don and Kathy Quinn, mom and dad to Gina and Jancice, and their ties to drum corps. Check it out!
Thanks, Gadget. I knew they were doing the article but I haven't seen it yet. Some of the dates and info is wrong (obviously) but it was cool. It is actually a front page article in the local newspaper of my parents town. I also know that there was a picture of the four of us printed, not sure if it was the one from this season at finals with me and gina wearing our medals ... or if my mom used the one from when all four of us marched with the Skyliners at the same time.
I'll let you know though ... I should be getting the articles today.
A little shocked that you happened to "come across" that article though. But thats great.

Janis! This means I get to cheer you on this summer!!!! Finally taking a breather from marching and switching to teachin! I'll make sure that I bring the special "In-Stands" brew that I make for the freezing Syracuse shows...
SPAM! You slacker! I miss our pointless chatter and my busting your balls on the Bucs bus... You had better stop by and say hi this summer.
And Simpson... Dude, I am so sorry for dragging you thru my crap this summer... You rock
Good Luck Empire 2005! Can't wait to see what you have in store this summer
Heather, you may or may not be cheering me on. Not sure what I am doing this summer. I may or may not be marching. I'm not saying no, because when I do that I get flamed by people and then I end up marching anyway. But, I have a few things I have to deal with first -- personal and medical. I'll keep you posted. But make that "brew" anyway because either way ... you know I'll enjoy it!!!!
-
Ya know, I think this is hilarious. Not saying that its not a good time. But we all sit here from Finals to the first camp and talk about how much we miss it and can't wait to start again and then when we start again we all sit and complain and b*tch about how we can't wait for it to end because we are all beat up.
^OO^
Just an observation. Not saying anything is wrong with it. I love you guys so much and REALLY can't wait to see you all again. Getting my butt kicked and doing 600 drop spins on each hand at 9 am with 7 foot flag poles ... now that's another story.
See you all soon.
Love ya,

Jamey Thompson has been named the new Drill Designer for Phantom Regiment.
Have fun with that Devon, you can't seem to get away from him!!!! LOL. But at least you'll be "used" to it.
Congratulations to Jamey.

I can't beleive someone voted for not possible.......
I think if we set our minds to it we can blow last year away......
Shane,
That was me. And if anyone wants to know why ... Just ask ... I will be glad to tell you.

Ok, if YOU have to ask then you ARE a moe-ron.
Look, Shane, someone else thinks its "not possible".

And of course he "forgets" to mention this Saturday night at Fisher. Just thought in case anyone didn't see it on the front page I'd pass it along.
CONGRATULATIONS David ~ we love you.
