Boston Crusaders from cover of March 1967 DC Digest...are they crankin' the slides or workin' the rotors?
They were SLIDES--- players are Jim Horne, Neal Smith, Ken Wheeler------------------ aka ----"The Trio"
-
Thanks Boston for putting a smile on my face!!

Happy Anniversary to my beloved Caballeros. Can't wait to see all of you on Saturday night and really get to know more about our history.
I've compiled a slide show on my MySpace, that I think some current members might be interested in looking at. Here's the link:
Enjoy and please let me know what you think of it.
Great job on the slide show!!!!!!!!!!!! I hear great things about 2006 Cabs, hope the corps is as HOT as you

The Headline says it all.....
I remember that the hurcs had a great visual program that year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"NOT TRUE LANCERS"
I agree with you Sharon, many of the members of the Light Brigade are true and original 27th lancers. They earned the right to enjoy and preserve their memories through what ever corps name, legally they may have to use. Some of the members were in 27th from the beginning, they didn’t jump on the band wagon, they built it.
WELL SAID BOSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lancerlady, please calm down and stop acting like a ten year old. Your cause is good but your aproach is child-like.I'm the one who is right and I know what I'm talking, I'm on the alumni board of the 27th Lancers and I am very, very close with George B. and family.CHILL-------------- alumni corps are for FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about the greatest snare line of all time? My vote 1980 Bridgemen
Boston Crusaders 1966-67-68-69-70------------Tony Smith era!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That 5 Gallon Bucket of sand was ALL Pepe's idea not Neil's
I think you are wrong-----------ask Dennis and Mickey!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Every time the Hurcs beat someone new, Pepe would put a part of that corps on his mace.At Philly we needed a sand box to stick the mace in because of the artifical turf. Just a another trick by Mr Smith!!!!!!!Pepe and the mace at Philly. -
Then there was the hard a** Mickey Kelly (Sorry Mick) in 1982 this girl in the Rifle line at practice came walking past the horns semi-circle, her lip was split wide open...blood everywhere on her shirt...and I hear Mickey Kelly yell "Hey Lizzy just get a towel and come right back....... we gotta fix this ya know"!
Again 1982, we finished showering before the show and Pepe walks up to the shower area and says
"BULLS$%T somebahhhdy get me dat ladder over dare"! Yup! we had to bring a ladder into the shower where Pepe stood on the bottom Step to take his shower!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) God Bless Pepe!!
Pepe and his MACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and his impersonation of George Parks after beating Reading to win Championship

well put Craig--------- Ditto not DiggaWell said Jared. I think the challenge for any corps is to evolve with the times, both competitively and organizationally, while retaining its respect for its history. I've been around the corps since 1979, and I have kids that I've taught marching in the corps right now. Not only are these kids aware of the corps' history, they honor it.It was great seeing uniformed members of the 2005 corps hanging out in Foxboro with alumni who marched in the early 60's.....there was plenty of affection and respect, and it went both ways. Like Cadets, the Cavies, and Madison, Boston HAS found a way to change with the times while respecting their past.
No, Howard Weinstein and the management team do not run the corps like it was 1965. It is 2005.
Eat 'em up Boston!

That is not true, when Chuck Mangione and I were there, it was a stable contra line.
CODI
Did you have a HORSE in the line?????

Just curious...anyone out there playing in the DCI Alumni Golf tourney sponsored by BAC next week? I just signed up...hope to see some of you there!
Is this something that happens every finals week?...seems like a great idea :)
At last check there were 22 foursomes -------should be a great time, i hear they have some great prizes like a new car for a hole in one. Sign up is easy on the Boston Crusaders web site

WELL SAID============ BRAVOOk, the time has come to throw you under the bus. No, you weren't there in 1986. The performance order of Semifinals, for the corps that placed around you was:13. Les Eclipses
14. Sky Ryders
17. Phantom Regiment
18. Troopers
20. Velvet Knights
23. 27th Lancers
You were on after everyone one of those corps, and therefore no one in 27 saw any of these corps perform during semifinals. Furthermore, you were likely not even at the stadium until the time VK went on, so in all likelihood not many of your staff saw these other corps. they were all on earlier than you and they all (minus Eclipses) beat you. You had the performance order advantage also. So, you have no basis to claim you were screwed. Sorry, you don't have the knowledge to make such a claim either, unless you are indeed a wonder judge.
I am attacking you because people like you #### me off. In a way I understand because we all have been there, but in a way I don't understand because it's called growing and learning to accept things. ####, I remember leaving the field in 1989 thinking finals should have went:
1. Santa Clara
2. Cavies
3. Cadets
4. Madison
5. Phantom
6. Blue Devils
7. Star
Of course, I didn't see myself perform (unlike you, I cannot do that) and I did not see Star (on right after us) or Santa Clara (lining up for retreat). Now, when I watch the DVD's I chuckle at myself, because not only do I think we definitely deserved 7th place, I wonder how we ever beat Star in Quarterfinals and how we beat Star in Visual Performance. For years I believed that the Scouts were being screwed and Santa Clara was being screwed (any time they didn't win). I've grown and I've realized that I'm not qualified to judge. Neither are you or those countless other people you claim support your 1986 theory.

Early 1970's Boston Crusaders and 27th Lancers would enjoy a arm twisting or two. Heated rivalries that fueled their competitive juices on and off the field.
In 1973, I marched 27th. We were having practice in March. Next door was a motel and a traveling hockey team decided to give our flag/sabre line some verbal abuse and cat calls, whistling, etc. Our drill instructor, a gentleman not know for giving us breaks, called the corps in and told us quietly to take a break. Being a rookie - I was clueless until our drum major yelled "let's get them." It was mayhem - fist fights, etc. The hockey team learned quickly to never give us crap again. When it was over, we went back to rehearsal like nothing ever happened.
How many people on a hockey team???? 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The toughest part of 27th was the guard!!!!!!!!!!
-
IT seems 27th people think this is "27th planet" rather than" DRUM CORPS PLANET", Grow up !!!!!!!!! act your age (OLD) I saw lines that" YOUR STILL BEATING BOSTON"!!!!!!! You beat them in a movie theater, good for you ---now get on with your life!!!!!!!! Did you beat Boston last year??? See what i am saying?I haven't been "Hyping" anything. I have been trying to show kids where their history came from but...Whatever... :sshh:
I'm glad to hear you can play such top notch literature... Say, can you play "Flight of the Bumblebee" On a rotary contra and make all the Judges drop their jaws and WIN with a high score!? That's what Cliff White did (soloist you are talking about)...I guess that's too easy though for you uh? :sshh:
Yes everyone has opinions but yours sure came off pretty condescending like your "era" in drum corps was so much better. Nancy has said all the other things I wanted to say. If you don't "get it" that is your loss as far as I'm concerned.

Guard uniforms look like early 27th. Did any ex- lancers teach them??Voyageurs 1974Janesville, WI
-
Regardless of where i marched i still have my opinion. I was lucky to march and later teach a national champion. 27th was the best technical guard ever (my opinion) however i thought that they lacked personality and flare. So, where did you march ? Alliance ?? Defenders ?? BAC ?? North Star ??etc...etc......LOL
~G~
-
Could you be thinking of North Star?
North Star ----loved the guard uniforms when they switched to the alternate color
CHROME WALL AND CHROME GUARD. SORRY BUT I THOUGHT 27 GUARD WAS WAY TOO STIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPTIGHT
