In our Season 27 production, Ohio Valley Thunder pays tribute to our Appalachian heritage by bringing to the field Carol Barnett's composition "The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass," which takes the Ordinary Mass setting and combines it with the tradition of bluegrass music and Appalachian-ised texts.

  4. The Jacksonville FL event will take place at St. Augustine HS, and will mark the debut of Black Beat NZ, the first corps from New Zealand to compete in DCPI! They'll be welcomed to the US by a strong contingent of top corps, including Star of Jupiter, Quiksilver, Ohio Valley Thunder and Buckeye Brass, among others.

Obviously I'm rather pleased with how this event turned out. Great to get a win this late in the season against some perennially strong corps. Here's hoping I can keep this trend going.

  6. Sissonville High School Band recently purchased a marching baritone off eBay, however, the seller did not make note that the instrument was in G instead of Bb.

Cosmetically and mechanically the instrument is in very good condition, and still has the original case with the number where it once belonged to a drum corps.

If you are interested in making an offer, please contact director Mr. Corey F. Green at cgreen@kcs.kana.k12.wv.us or call (304) 348-1954 during school hours.

  7. After the banquet for Season XX, the BOD and Corps Directors of the Ohio Valley Performing Arts Association met to discuss the future of the organizations involved. As a result of that meeting, Ohio Valley Thunder and Storm Troopers will not compete in the upcoming Season XXI or any future "Off-Season" competitions in order to function more like realistic corps. The BOD has however decided to field 2 new corps in Open and A Class solely for "Off-Season" competitions, and shall be releasing more information at a later date. Ohio Valley Thunder shall remain the sole World Class corps of the organization as the premier corps of the organization since Season III.

OVPAA looks forward to its continued relationship with DCPI, and the educational opportunities provided to its members.

**Due to renovations and construction to Marshall's stadium and around the campus, we've been asked to move our homeshow for this year.**

  9. "Angels we have heard on high sweetly singing o'er the plains, and the mountains in reply echoing their joyous strains..."

The familiar carol evokes images of heavenly melodies ringing across the mountains of Israel proclaiming the birth of Jesus Christ. This season, Ohio Valley Thunder draws on this and other Christmas hymns to evoke the image of the cry ringing out across the snowy mountains of West Virginia in their Season 19 production "An Appalachian Christmas Carol."

From the haunting strains of "I Wonder as I Wander" to the hopeful peals of "Peace on Earth" in Casting Crown's version of "I Heard the Bells," OVT takes you on a musical journey of a quiet Applachian night that is awakened by the news of new life.

    Repertoire:

I Wonder As I Wander (Niles)

    What Child Is This? (Dix)

Crown Him With Many Crowns (Elvey/ACQ)

    I Heard the Bells (Longfellow/Hall)

Angels We Have Heard On High (Traditional)

  11. OVT and Mountain Devils, bitter rivals during the season, both missed out on advancing to finals by the narrowest of margins. I think they're both having a massive couch-burning party out in the lot to let off some steam.

Still too classy to burn couches.

We're driving up to Denton to support our "little brother corps" in their finals!

  12. .

Ohio Valley Thunder; 93.496; The breakout corps of the year by far, OVT pulled off a great overall show tonight. Color guard seems to be the one area that’s lagging behind the rest of the corps slightly.

When you have great music, a great staff, and great kids, things take care of themselves.

The girls have had a tough year thanks to the injury bug. Whether they will be able to fight back and catch up with the rest of the corps in scores remains to be seen, but thanks to excellent leadership from our guard staff and captains they are prepared to battle it out to the end!
