  1. With the exception of Erin,

Something about that "truck design/photo" just screams...

    OREO COOKIES, or DORITOS!!! b**bs

    Don't ya think??? :P

Thank God that the coats are being tailored for 2007!!!!!!

Hey wait a minute!!! I finally made the truck!!! b**bs How cool is that? I guess I need to show up a little more often now, eh?

And what do you mean Oreo or Doritos? I'm Guinness (yup, still only 105 calories with vitamins AND protein!) Lays BAKED potatoe chip guy all the way..... :bleah:

  2. Steve "Loops" was the Pres. of SCUM in the 80's. LOL

I think Romeo was Sgt. at Arms. LOL

    I was ??? :worthy:

Oh yeah, yeah I was! Or was that the "sgt at twisting-arms". b**bs Not that I ever needed to do that...............

I'm not even going to try and figure out where the heck that card is anyway. Loops told me he'd try to make it up to Rock-Cheeeeeeeeeeester. That would be fun, no? B)

  3. And you know if you DON'T let me into this group what will be waiting for you in Rock-Cheeeeeeeeeeester, don't you Milton?

Remember, I'm old. I don't need an excuse to spank the tihs (read backwards!) out of you, my son my son! :P

I'm probably one of the few people left who can REVOKE your card! b**bs

Has Loops seen this yet? :sshh:

Oh yeah, there are seven other card carrying members in my section with a couple of others scattered about the hornline? ^0^

    See you soon buddy!

  4. Ok this might be a stretch. Check the bus schedules to the Meadowlands Racetrack (same as the stadium). Buses run up to 20 minutes AFTER the last race. http://www.thebigm.com/Transportation.asp

Based on what the "Big M" web site states the last race runs at around 11pm. http://www.thebigm.com/postTimes.asp?navID=1

If the show is over before 11pm you can guess your last bus back to Manhattan is around 11:20pm. There's a phone number to speak with someone at the race track on the wbesite. Hey, it's worth a shot!

    Good luck! B)

  6. Anyone know which shows they'll perform at? I wanna see if I can get my Bridgemen hat autographed by their Soprano line ( :P :P :P

    Barry,

Have your horn instructor Steve get in contact with me (we competed against each other in Sky & Hurcs). I'm sure we can work something out and get the "sop" gang to sign a hat for you. Hopefully you can make Allentown or Rochester!

Good luck to you & your corps during the season! B)

  7. Alright this is probably going to annoy most of you "frequent drivers".

20 minutes from Brooklyn, NY to Bayonne, NJ and literally a 30 second walk for three out of four Ridgemen parades (the other parade is in Staten Island 10 minutes).

Sorry gang, but I am saving a heck of lot of gas money for water, soda, lunch, beer, munchies, etc, etc, B)

  8. Nobody in DCI is even close to a DCA corps except the Scouts once in a while. And those years seem to be gone now that Scott Stewart is no longer their director. He is a huge DCA fan.

DCA corps have their own identities, thank you very much. There are no junior corps like the Cabs, Empire, Bush, Bucs, et al.

Certain corps have borrowed arrangements from arrangers that perhaps did them for a junior corps, such as Brigs with Wayne Downey, but those arrangements were different and their treatment of them was as well. Cabs have also used Downey's charts. When Bucs translate a tune that perhaps Phantom or Vanguard have done, it is not the same arrangement at all. It is an arrangement of a composer that translates to their specific style and becomes unique to them by the arranger's understanding that they are arranging for a DCA corps, hopefully. At least the corps that are successful understand the premise of designing for specific judging criteria and audience appeal.

The Disney Millenium stuff that young Joe was referring to WAS done in 2000 by the Cadets, but my arrangement was totally different than theirs because I was arranging it for a DCA corps with DCA judges and DCA audiences. I also understood the talent level and time constraints of a DCA corps. Therefore it was NOT as difficult by design and effect points were thought out differently to maximize the size and quality of the group. But it had never been done in DCA, and I thought it could have worked well.

Keep DCA like it is, with variety of programming and corps developing and maintaining their own identities!!! That is why more and more people are finding DCA as enjoyable...and in most cases, more enjoyable than DCI shows.

    Donny

    Donny,

You've been my hreo since the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Drum Corp All Stars in 1992 (or was it '94?). ####! I hate when these brain/memory cells keep flicking on and off............... :wall:

  9. Thanks everyone, for your welcomes and replies. I wish I can thank all of you individually, but in addition to my trumpet practice, I have a husband, two jobs, and a room I have to keep clean or my grandmother in law will kill me. (Yes, we are temporarily living with my husband's grandparents and if I don't get out soon I'm going to lose it!) Anyway, onto more pleasant topics...

Today during my trumpet lesson, in addition to being reminded, again, to "loosen up" my aperture, my teacher mentioned that doing sit-ups really strengthans the chest muscles for playing? Is this true? Also, what other physical exercise can I be doing to prepare me for Drum Corps next year and during? I already try to walk everyday.

By the way, as far as just walking to music? I do it without even realizing it sometimes. My method of keeping a steady pace while walking is:"1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8...." Sometimes I'll even have a song in my head. Now if I could just add the marching steps and playing the song with my trumpet...(Oh, I so look forward to next year!!!!) Sorry, didn't mean to ramble.

I look forward to your replies. Also, should I have posted on a forum other than, "New Member"?

    Thanks,

    Elizabeth

    Liz,

The responses here are way to serious. How about trying to have a little fun first? B)

  10. just had a thought. I know that the new batch of horns out there are standard horns and not old school DC bugles. but do we as DC Marching members want to call them anything other then Sops, Mells/altos, French, Euph, Baris, CONTRA's!!!!

my reason for this queston is to fold...

Over the years when ever I have described Drum Corps to someone who has not marched or seen it live. I say "Think of it as a professional Marching Band" but now with the words we are using... That is what it has become. Why??? I'm not putting down Marching Bands. But i have alway's figured that we set a higher standard. #### we pay to do this crap!!!!!

so yes, it's a trumpet by make. but in the hands of a fellow field warrior I will still call it a Sop. and a screachy one to boot!

    any thoughts??

    Drack Babe!

  11. I have one for you. but i do not know how to add photo's to this site. fill me in on how to do so and my lovey (CBA mate) Nancy will be on the way.

    Drack,

Posting a picture requires you to "save" to a website that DCP can post from. Click on the "insert image" icon (looks like a little tree, i think?). It's lookin for a valid URL that has your picture saved at. John Ric & I use Flickr.com but there are others.

    Ladies,

In the immortal words of Billy Crystal "You look "MA-VA-LUS"!!!!!! b**bs

We are going to work on a good section picture ala the Renegades. As Drack stated earlier, I'm sure we'll run into you guys during the summer.

    Later dudes & dudettes! B)
