  1. Scores from Charlotte... surprising!

    1 Blue Devils 93.950

    2 The Cavaliers 93.100

    3 Carolina Crown 92.350

    4 Blue Knights 86.350

    5 Boston Crusaders 84.250

    6 Glassmen 82.350

    7 Crossmen 79.700

    8 Pioneer 69.500

Looks like the judges were told to hold down the scores to give the top corps room to grow over the next two weeks. We'll know for sure if these (Jacksonville) scores are lower too.

  2. Does anyone know what score will be used for seeding of the four corps that perform twice at regionals? I see two choices and neither of them is going to be fair. If you use highest score of the day then Blue Stars victory over BAC in the night show is negated (both had higher scores in the afternoon). Also the nearly three point spread that the Blue Knight had last night would be .1. If you use last score of the day then Scouts pass Crossmen and Glassmen when they did not in the head-to-head.

I don’t see any equitable solution. Averaging both scores brings in a little of both problems above. Using ordinals? Negates some of the huge spreads…

  5. I think everyone is getting a little too meticulous in analyzing the Scouts scores (does anyone think The Academy’s performances have changed like their score swings this week). Now that we have reached regionals phase, the only thing we are going to divulge from the weekday shows for the Scouts (or any other corps) is whether they change positions from the last regional with another corps at the same show. The Scouts need to pass the Crossmen and not be passed by anyone else below them. They have not been in a show with the Crossmen and they have not been passed in the same show by anyone who place lower than them in San Antonio.

Can us Scouts homers realistically expect them to make a push for finals if they do not show well in the ATL this weekend? I think Atlanta is HUGE for Mad-Town, and am thinking if they dont score in the 82-83 range, finals will be a reach? Whats everyones thoughts here? They have 3 weeks to gain 5-7 points in my estimation.

I will almost guarantee that they will be in that range but I don’t think scores have anything to do with their chance at finals. I am hoping for 12th or better but wouldn’t be discouraged with their chances of finals if the Atlanta results were identical to San Antonio. If the Crossmen come in 12th with a 52 and the Scouts come in 13th with a 51.55, I'll still feel pretty good about Finals. Sitting in 13th less than .5 from 12th is a pretty encouraging spot (if you're not in 12th  ).

I thought Madison didn't care about scores? I guess things change...

Scouts don’t care about scores but they care about performing before the largest audience of the year!

The score this Scouts fan wants is .1 better than 13th at semifinals.

  6. I get two more votes day right? Today I am going to tick Spirit, my credit will always be the same...

  8. how big were the groups they were randomly drawn from?

shouldn't the last 3 in the afternoon be BS, Gmen and BAC, assuming they were groups of 3? ... maybe they were groups of 4

They said the evening seeds were in groups of 3-3-2. I guess they put BAC by themselves (to complete the 7-9) and resumed the groups of three with 10-12 (judging by where Xmen are).

  9. Does anyone know what they will be doing about corps like Crossmen, Glassmen, Blue Knights, and Blue Stars, who ended up performing both in the morning and evening, and generated evening scores that were lower than the morning scores? For instance, Crossmen's evening score was not only lower than the morning show, but was lower than the morning scores for 3 other corps, which would seem to create a statistical disadvantage for making the evening show. For such corps, are they using the highest score for that corps from the regional, or just the most recent score from that regional? It would appear this same issue would come up with Atlanta.

Well there is no easy solution because using the highest scores (morning) would invalidate their gaps with the other corps in the evening show...

  10. 2005 saw a new corps in the mix: The Canton Bluecoats. Cadets won title #9, Cavaliers placed second, and Phantom Regiment finally climbed back into the top three, unseating the Blue Devils and sending them to 5th place. This was the first 5th place finish for the Devils since 1991, an amazing 14 years in the top four.

The Blue Devils streak is still intact, they were 4th in 2005. The Bluecoats hit 4th the next year (2006) at the expense of The Cadets who dropped to 5th.

  11. I was disappointed with the Scout's souvie stand though. Usually they have more stuff then anyone but it looked like they barely even unpacked the truck this time. They had nothing there I didn't already have. I had to settle for a Crossmen polo and a Zildjian shirt. What a bummer, because Madison has so much cool stuff available online. I don't understand.

They were selling these like hotcakes in Dallas, maybe they ran out.
