Well, you must forgive yourself because not only was Spirit there in 1979, we (Crossmen) were there as well. I just looked at my 1979 schedule for Stockton, CA. July 4, 1979;
1. Blue Devils 82.45
2. SCV 79.70
3. Spirit 78.65
4. Crossmen 73.20
5. Freelancers 67.50
6. VK 46.10
7. 1st Canadian Regiment 36.30

I think we've pretty much nailed down the fact that it was '79; the guard uniform is the clincher. And Malibu has posted the date: July 4, 1979.
By the way, I don't want this to get lost in the whole "which year was it" debate: Thanks for posting these great pictures of Spirit! Any more from the same contest? Any other corps photos?

Wait....I know shows ran late, but folks we're talking about a corps from GA doing a show in CA in October??? Sorry, the date just doesn't sound right to me. It would make sense for them to do one near GA....with half the corps. Got to remember many kids were in school or lived out of state.
Not only that but this picture had to have been taken BEFORE July 8th.....after that day, they wore black arm bands in memory of Jim Ott.
Let me ask Schneeed if they were doing shows that late. Hey at least we were confirmed the year was 1980. b**bs
With all due respect to everyone, Yes the date must be incorrect. I checked and It was more than likely around July 4. Has anyone come up with the correct Year. I am sure it had to be 1980, but I could be wrong.

I would like to put this question before those who of you who march or marched.
Have you ever been going along, having a "decent" tour and then
all of a sudden there comes a point where the staff tells you
"This bus won't make it up the hill in front of us with all of you aboard so
let's get off and start walking" Up hill, in 90+ temp?

Don't know the year for sure but the Guy's name is Mike Shaw.We have a winner!!!!
Yes Mike Shaw I marched with him in Conquistadors in I believe 1977 then he went to SCV in 1978 and I marched with him again in 1981 SCV
