scv got 2nd in 98....
Yes, you're right! I should remember that! It was 3rd in 97...
Thanks!
*Edit* I was trying to make a point in my response to correct someone that I needed correcting! Go figure!

...Eight
BD's not going to let Crown pull a Spartacus on them!
If you are trying to say the tie happened in 98, not 99, you are sadly mistaken as I marched in both years. 98 Cadets won, BD took second with that Tony meets Juliet show and SCV took third with Copland. 99 SCV caught up to BD and tied for the championship.

Three words for you: Nineteen Ninety Six.
Or for that matter...
Nineteen Ninety Nine, Two Thousand...

Spike, I want to thank you for that story. You were on staff when I was in the brass line with SCVC in 99. When I think back to the 99 season for the organization, I remember many things, my return to the corps after a brief absence, the A corps winning and what I was thinking as they were playing in Finals competition (along with my thoughts when BD was playing too), many different experiences. Sadly, the one thing I don't usually remember is the tragedy that struck the organization that year. Your story about Art coming back to practice puts things into perspective again. It makes me want to remember to pay respects to not only him, but all who lost their life before being able to do something they love at the start of every competitive drum corps season.

WTG!
I can hear Clowns now....
As a former SCVC member... Way to go guys! Congrats on a great year!

they did have a brief moment with BDB...

I guess I should say price can be discussed.

Section 18, Row 37, seats 1, 2, and 3.
They can be sold individually, one group of 2, or all together.
Let me know if you are interested. We were going to go to these shows, but Disneyland is calling my name.

Glassmen. Loved the other five.
I'm with you here. I can't not vote for the Glassmen, I loved all the other shows still left. It will get very hard though next round.

Over is an easy choice for me: 2005
Under - I'll say 1998 , HM goes to 1997, 2000

I voted for Spirit

I have no specific questions, just general things...I really don't know the area at all. The only time I was ever in Arizona was in 1998 for the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, and I was only there for 3 days.
Looking for the kind of stuff you can't find on Wikipedia, things to do in the area, how the town is for a young(ish) male, gyms in the area, good restaurants...you know. The sort of stuff that that you can't find on a website.
I am interviewing for the Associate Director of Bands position there starting in Fall 2007.
Hmm... lets see. Flagstaff is beautiful. Pine trees everywhere. Sometimes you can forget that you are in Arizona. I love the campus, especially north campus, the oldest part.
As far as things to do, I've only ever viewed it from the college student perspective, not from someone outside that group. They have their downtown Flagstaff area, right next to campus with all the bars. Then they have the east part of the city - I think that is where more people live that are not college students. Though they are building some newer residences that are really for college students closer to the campus. I think the restaurants are fine. They have your major chain restaurants (Olive Garden, Outback...) but then they have some state restaurants (only in Arizona) and some mom and pop type places that are usually very good.
I also do not know of the gym situation because I always used the school's. I think it has a very good facility. Its not quite like a 24 hour fitness, but I would say its better than the gym in an apartment complex.
Try the website www.flagstaff.com - I haven't been there in a while, but they do try to have things about the city and what to do - almost like a vistors page.

I was also a campus tour guide for 2 years while at school. My information might be outdated, since its been a while, but I can help too.
-
And, I think there is supposed to be a DIV2/3 show in Lake Havasu.
-
I graduated in 2003 from NAU.

Awesome! I just hope its not the same day as the Bay Area regional... I would be so torn as to which one to go to...
-
I also ordered mine through the special preorder and I am wanting to know where I'm sitting. I have section 18 row 37 seats 1-3. I guess I'll find out in August!
-
Anyone else see this on BD's site? They mention a regional on August 4th in the Bay Area. I guess we know that a major regional will be there...
-
What about VK doing these? I really think these shows would be done right if VK did it, otherwise, I don't think the Cadets could do them justice.
Just my .02

QUOTE(Cadetsaholic @ Aug 12 2006, 03:52 PM)
Hop is not just doing this because the Cadets are in 4th...seriously anyone who thinks that is not able to look at the issues at hand...again with the idea of going out west...most of the shows are in the midwest to the east coast...just like most of the corps...thus more corps would have an expense problem....SCV and BD have taken that into account for a long time...corps like the Cadets, Boston Crusaders, Crossmen, The Magic, Spirit...need I go on...have not and thus this would make it harder financially...electronically speaking...everyone knew he would propose this...IT ISN'T A NEW IDEA...GET OVER IT...if all the other corps feel it's all right...then OK...if not...OK...also raising the membership to 140, really wouldn't make it "better" for the "top corps" that are just trying to "kill the small corps" five members...come on...I could see if it was like 160-175....but five...they can deal...please....and the age issue...i agree...he is just bouncing off ideas...don't attack him just because you don't understand his logic or actually know his reasoning...
I somehow missed this post.
My thoughts are:
If corps out East don't think they can handle it, then don't go! Its that simple. I'll follow a BD/SCV dog fight to the end.
But, they really don't have much to complain about, they have known that finals were going to be in Pasadena for quite some time now to prepare their journey and prepare their financial burden.
The bingo programs that SCV and BD use to help their finances are struggling with the build up of all the Indian Casinos, yet they make it work year after year.
When all is said and done though, DCI is not going to move championships from Pasadena next year because it is hard for some east coast corps. Not that they have already started selling their tickets. This may very well be the only time that Finals will ever be out west. And for this next year, some will just have to deal with that fact and choose to either go, or not.
