  1. Venues for II/III are poorly advertised and often poorly attended. These corps provide the oportunity to many kids to get their first taste of drum corps and allow the opportunity for those to march who cannot make the financial or time commitment. The work ethic requirements for Div II/III is no different from Div I, while individual exposure is much greater.

The closest corps for us is at least 450 miles away. We checked out fees for the closest Div I corps vs. the closest Div II/III corps. The difference in fees was only $100! Current corps had camps/rehearsals every month Jan-season starts and gone all summer (sounds like a lot of time committment to me!) Div II/III parents/members also make serious (for us) financial committments and sacrifices. We could not afford corps in 2006. This year my son ended up choosing the corps he marched previously due to the comraderie, the friendships, the atmosphere and the committment to excellence (Memphis Sound!) and we're both more than satisfied with the decision he made!

    GO MEMPHO!!!!!!!!!

  3. I just wanted to see an overall "THANKS" to everyone who takes the time and energy to write reviews/thoughts of the shows they see... we may not always remember to thank each of you individually, but I know I speak for everyone reading these forums when I say we really do appreciate it.

    definite ditto.

I'm sure I'm not the only parent who cannot make the shows.

It's great to hear from people who are able to go!

  4. Emerald City SUMMER MUSIC GAMES 2007

    Dublin OH

    July 9, 2007

    Memphis Sound 68.250

My son called and said that even though their score was lower tonight, that they felt they performed better than Saturday in Chippewa Falls (74.850)....different judges. They were all excited about the improved performance.

    Go Mempho!!!

  5. im going to have to agree. there is no way surf onyl improved 1 point over the course of a weeks rehersal. i marched DII and scoring is erradic at the DII level.

My son is in a Div III corps, and one night this season, he was concerned about their standing because another corps had a high score jump, and they had dropped a couple points. I pointed out to him that the other corps performed in a different venue with different judges and he replied, in a tone of surprised awareness, "oh yeah!" (the light bulb came on!)

Bottom line....the telling time will be at semifinals/finals when everyone performs at the same venue.

    my 2 cents. :)
