is the one on efnet not there anymore?
Used to be the best. Haven't been there in a while. Don't know if its still around.

Is this year the first year they are basically putting a limitation on those seats to only friends?
-
You can't become a Friend of DCI by making a direct donation to a corps. Corps get tickets from DCI for Championships and the corps makes a slight profit from the sale of these "Corps Block" tickets.
So the corps block seats are in the friends of DCI section though?

Ummm...what plan are you talking about? Is there something new?
The email I got last month said that Friends levels are the same next year as this year and last year.
And to pick a nit, when you say "regular" fans, do you mean non-Friends members? I didn't know I'm a "irregular" fan.
Yes, non-Friends. Sorry for the poor wording.

Friends of DCI was formed in the early 80's and has been a huge success. Friends have donated thousands of dollar each year to DCI and most support individual corps also. Once all the Friends request for tickets have been met DCI opens up the left over seats to the corps to sell. No seats within the 40's go unsold at the regionals or chapionships. I normally sit in the Friends section but I have never been a Freind of DCI since I prefer to donate directly to corps. If you want good sits
guaranteed being a Friend of DCI is the way to go.
See, I was unaware of this. I did not know that you could be considered a friend for direct donation to a corp. I thought all the money had to go directly through DCI.

I took a look into what it comes to become a friend of DCI today out of curiosity's sake. Its quite a hefty cost to become a "friend". Now I have a simple question, will it work? Are regular fans going to show up to finals to see empty seats between the 40's because there aren't enough people willing to throw $1000+ at DCI or will the whole system pan out just the way DCI wants it? Please share your comments on this.

If I remember reading correctly from another thread, they lost all their WGI talent. This year SCV instated a rule that disallowed WGI participants from participation in the corp which explains why their center from last year, who marched Pulse this winter, is now at BD.

Here you go - found the link.
DCI is having an all day program for Music Ed Majors on Friday which includes free tickets to the World Class Semifinals. They are doing this in conjunction with MENC. Looks like a great deal to me.

How's that for a student discount?
Maybe I need to change my major for a month or so.

We do not advertise to and have often turned our backs on the older, wiser population of drum corps fans with income to spend,
We give free tickets to high-school band students so they can attend shows,
We discount some tickets for high school and college students so that we can gain their "Friendship," (they are the future)
We do this so they will remember us and be loyal customers when they are older, more stable, and working with money,
But as soon as they get older they become part of the older, wiser population, and we turn out backs to them, repeating the process.
Sounds like an amazing idea to me.

I wonder if its full retreat 2009 Finals style (Boom Boom Pow included), or actually a full retreat without the lame festivities that DCI stole from WGI.

Nothing personal kid, but you have just made the point that many on here have argued about for the past few years. The audience DCI is targeting can't afford tickets, yet DCI keeps pushing the legacy fans (who can afford it) away from the activity. Not a great business plan.
The sad part is that the fan network is so much better of a deal. Of course it isn't live but I pay $60 (actually $30 since I split it with my brother) and I can watch shows the whole season. Maybe this is the audience they're targeting for the fan network, I don't know. I still wouldn't be able to watch finals though even if I weren't going to Indy.

There actually is a program right now for college music ed students to go to semis for free.
Bummer, not a music ed major.

Seeing as DCI's fan base is made up of many students, college and high school, has it ever been thought of to give a student discount for any tickets?
I'm a college student myself and I work all summer in order to pay for school during the fall and winter semesters. This year I will once again be making my yearly trip down to finals, but this year will be a little bit different. Seeing as the prices for any decent seat in Lucas Oil Stadium are $75+ dollars, I will not be going in to see the show this year. Instead I plan to head down and just watch the lot scene all day. I have also even considered going to Open Class Finals as it is much cheaper, and you get to see some pretty good shows. I'm disapointed that the prices were bumped up from last year which made finals much more affordable. So has this ever happened? Would it ever work? I think discounts to college students would be great. It doesn't even have to be that much. If the discount made the prices the same as last year I probably wouldn't mind paying for it, but for now $75 just seems like a lot of money for the value of seat you're getting.

I'm actually probably just going to be lot hopping World Class semi's and finals. Can't really afford the ticket. I was considering going to Open Class finals actually. I'll definitely think about it more now.

Hmmm, that was an interesting throwback yell from the crowd. lol

I hate shoes in a dryer. SCV Bass Cadence is way better.

I absolutely love the mylar drum heads. It sounds awesome.

I really hope they jump in placement before the end of the season.

Never really been impressed with Boston until tonight. Wow.
Last year got me for them. Great show. Drum feature was way better last year. This one just doesn't flow the right way for me.

Have recently discovered this little guy. It may not be loud enough for a whole ensemble but has worked well for full battery/sectional rehearsals.
