  1. For example, if they released some clips of the finals DVD on YouTube or somewhere (say, 90 seconds/2 minutes from each corps' shows) it might attract more customers.

They do this already. Go to the detail page for each corps on dci.org and you'll see a clip. There's actually tons of awesome free content hosted on dci.org and Fan Network. But how many people visit that every day vs. how many people visit YouTube every day?

  2. No. A 23-year old should not be participating in a youth activity. Enough said. Things happen. If you want to get recognized as an age-out but get hurt in the middle of the season, I don't think many corps would be opposed to letting you stay on the road and put on the uniform for the age-out ceremony and finals block, especially if you've been a good vet for years before.

  3. I know that most people who are active on DCP seem to have the opinion that G bugles were inherently louder than Bb/F instruments, yet I have never seen or heard any proof of this. Is there any proof, besides in anecdotes from extremely biased people? I seriously want to know, because I'm interested in the answer to this question.

I've walked by a small senior corps warm up in the lot for an exhibition in the summer when I marched. It can hurt.

  4. I think very very few high school kids (the target for DCI, apparently) stay interested in drum corps in and after college, unless they end up marching corps.

The Finals broadcast used to be the best exposure we got, but if someone were to get interested in going to a show, the season's over. What if you showed last year's Finals on TV in June, along with a preview of the upcoming season and show information? Then someone watching for the first time would actually want to and get to go check it out.

  5. Holy Name Cadets were my corps to beat, and they wowed me with an unbelieveable refresh of West Side Story that didn't feel too tired or retreaded. The musical arranging was by far the best of any corps. Jay Kennedy is a friggin God. Their guard was technically beast-like and dangerous. Their percussion were intense, focused and clean. Visual performance and difficulty hands down the best of the night, and the Cadets gave every other corps a clinic in marching. Should be no lower than 2nd on Saturday.

    Wait, not Jay Bocook?

  6. You would be surprised. We still focused a good amount of time on basics where I marched. The routine stayed the same for the most part.

But I have worked with corps who dropped the emphasis on visual basics a great deal once they are half-way into the season. To the point that they would just do away with visual block all together (late season) to have more ensemble time. And these were top 12 corps.

Same with me. Just thought the comment I referenced was funny because we did basics from spring training to finals week last season, and it'd be odd if all of a sudden we'd change what we're doing now that we're in the hunt.
