I cannot explain what the difference is between his role with SCV and his role with the Troopers, as that remains to be seen. But I do know that yes, he does do some touring with SCV during the summer.

I have heard that the change will be in tomorrow night. We shall see.

I predict that Santa Clara will be returning the noose to the Cavs tonight. It's been 12 years.

more "fan friendly" music married to their cutting edge drill.... deserves to be hyped!
Definitely!!
-
It's gonna be great. Very different from the last two years, for sure.

Yes! And I agree with you and Lindap. I LOVED SCV 2011, (and 2010 for that matter). SCV personifies a level of cool, complex sophistication unlike any other corps, IMO. If all these staff changes help them climb competitively, well.... great. But, please, please, please do not change the current Vanguard style. I'll run screaming from the stadium at the first sign of pandering or gimmickry....
I agree, no pandering or gimmickry for SCV. So not SCV.

If this is the Mo (Maureen) I know and love, then you certainly are not older, and thanks for backing me! I grew up here and lived this stuff I know of what I speak!
Yes, it's me and yes, I am older. But thank you for speaking up because you do know what you speak of.

GR had that burning desire to win! He drove to the corps to succeed. He was the corps founder and its benevolent dictator. He may have made a mistake in not grooming someone to take his place. However, I don’t think he planned on passing away within a year of his retirement. Jeff’s success with the Cavalries is well documented, but he needs to prove it was not a fluke. So far, in three seasons, he has not.
Gail loved the Vanguard. It was his world and meant the world to him. Unless you've marched in the Vanguard, you cannot feel this feeling. Unless, of course, you were its founder, which Gail was.

Maybe he does... But Jeff is the kind of guy who needs the entire Vanguard Organization to be clicking on all cylinders in order to make effective change as he is a kinder and gentler sort than Mr. Royer was. Mr. Royer was the sort to lift the entire organization onto his back and carry it across the finish line if it were necessary. Any older SCV alum will back me up on this. If you are one then you probably shouldn't be arguing this point with me.
Mr. Royers Hard as Nails approach is what caused me to commute from my Home in San Jose to Concord, I could have never lived through that kind of situation but watched as the 1981 SCV Corps kicked out butts at DCI In Great Part because of the drive and determination of a leader that would not be denied, these great leaders have something that others do not have... The ability to instill that drive into others and have them do as well as they are able!
Tony, I am an older SCV alum and will back you on your comments. Absolutely.

YOU are kidding, right?
Denise is a WGI Hall of Famer, instructed and helped make staff decisions with 2 other DCI Legendary Corps, and is a Vice President at a Fortune 500 Company. She also made crucial staff decisions at Emerald Marquis.
So yes... a championship corps, WGI, a WGI Legend, and a Fortune 500 Company thinks she makes good decisions.
I'll go ahead and assume they are probably correct, and not a DCP lynch mob. :-P
Nope, not kidding. And I doubt she makes these decisions in a vaccum

The entire brass staff is missing from the corps web-site. Key is still listed as the arranger but the Brass Program for the A-Corps is empty. Only 1 year together? Really? How are they going to get any consistency if there is a new brass staff every other year? Is there any wonder some kids leave SCV and head up the bay to BD?
I hope they can make a big splash with a new brass staff ala Rennick. Maybe they plan to bring the entire Crown brass staff over!
I hope it ends soon. Sick of it.

Completely agree!!!! And the Staff Coordinators apparent ineptness to hire the 'right staff' has never been more highlighted! How many brass caption heads in the last seven years? How many Staff Coordinators? It's all in the numbers
Bingo!! Why do people just assume this person is qualified to and has the ability to make good decisions??

SCV, of course! Beautiful! And I love watching the brass guy "dance" and leap with the color guard.... just great stuff!
Yeah, he's great, isn't he?? Absolutely LOVE that part of the show.
-
Well, thank you for getting it in the show then. Don't think this show would be the same without it.
Yeah, and it used to be longer (wish it still was).
-
Awesome! You're going to love both the whole album, and the SCV version. Key really did a great job with it.
Funny, I remember hearing this for the first time at a camp this past winter and saying to Key, "What is that song?? It is so beautiful. What part of the show will that be?". Was told what it was and that it wasn't part of the show but was maybe going to be a warm-up piece or something to play for encore. Of course, a bunch of us there said, "NO WAY, NOT IN THE SHOW??? IT HAS TO BE IN THE SHOW!!!" Voila!!!
-
Santa Clara, of course. Just beautiful.

It may also be the fact that they spend alot of time standing still while playing their tougher licks, while other corps are booking it across the field during their tough parts.
If this is even true, why should it matter for drum lines. Doesn't seem to matter for horn lines.

Prediction: SCV drum score will rise with the Dallas heat tonight!
It should since J.J. Pipitone isn't there.

-
Nope, not going there. Not here anyway.

Yeah, some of the staff leave on their own but that's a whole other issue. I hope we can hang onto at least some of the people mentioned above. There are others that should have been gone a while ago.

I'm sure Gail would be very proud of the kids because they are great, hard working kids. But I don't think he would be too happy with design or placement. We want greatness again.

It is amazing that EVERY YEAR, People say the SAME THING...If only if SCV could of executed the show! BULL CRAP!!!
The corps get the same talent, the same average age...the same kind of people that want to be great! It comes down to the design people...
You design for your members, Not JUST FOR YOUR OWN EGOS!!!!
I hear ya, Bud!!

I felt like I was watching Gail Royer running around the field going ‘what happen to my corps, what happened to my big, fat melodies and graceful floating across the field….get me out of here’
OMG, this is brilliant!

Madison has some very good people on staff. Not at all surprised they're doing so well this year.
