  1. Have iTunes, will travel. Nothing compares to the original. Honestly, if I was forced to, I would rather hear one of BD's lines from the 90's play it.

Didn't those 90s hornlines just sound so #### awesome?

Uggh! Revolution! No bass synth, singers, narrators, or band instruments! Bring the Bugles Back!

This has been a random dinosaur moment from a recently retired marcher. Remember, dilophosaurus spits venom at its prey, causing blindness and, eventually, paralysis. Spared no expense!

  2. I'm a student there. Across the street from the stadium there is a student apartment complex... Do NOT park in there. Those are reserved spots for the students that are housed in the apartments. We need 'em. I will be there myself to punish those that don't comply!

There are more than enough spaces during Summer Session.

What are you going to do... beat your drums and call flashlight police to attention? :worthy:

  3. It's a dry campus. And that usually means for everything. I don't know yet... but I know someone who lives in the apartments across the street... I have many options open to me... since I live in town and live close to campus, lol.

And yes, traffic will be a pain. Unless you know the back roads in... but I'm not giving any info, lol.

it's gonna be weird not being on the field this year.

  4. Can BD stop doing the look how dark and edgy we are shows, please?

I mean, you have an Alice in Wonderland connection, mirrors on the field, and... Latin Jazz??? What the hell is Wayne Downey and the design staff smoking on the West Coast... California Kush? Because it most certainly doesn't sound like his old brand of celebratory cigar.

You either have the theme match the music or not at all.

    Yikes. This borders on Jabberwocky!

  5. It looks alright. Its black or grey coat/bibber with a small logo on the left chest that looks like this... ( S )

White Shakos with very tall white frenchie plume, and the peace eagle as the emblem.

White cumberbund and drop without frill. Like Cadets 03-06.

And tons of silver buttons outlining the coat's trim which has a similar design to BD 07-09.

    And simplified white shoulder macaroni.

All-in-all I think it looks rather bland.

I think their first look was the best (white with the cascading crests down the shoulder)

  6. Way back when I first joined DCP, I remember having a conversation via PM with an alumnus of Star of Indiana who marched 90-93 and had eligibility for the 1994 season. At some point I asked if Star had planned a show for 1994, and to my surprise he said yes.

The show in question would have been Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Now, I'm left to ponder what could have been with Star's brassline. The rhythmic complexity and subtle edge of medea, with the melodic power of 1990 and 91 in one show.

Anyone have any comment? Former Star Alums are welcome to chime in.

  7. How much does a totally new uni cost per unit? Just the tunic and pants, I mean.

    It depends.

Stock uniforms can go for as little as $100.

Custom uniforms with a lot of detailing can be $400 a pop.

Then you have the G7, whose bill is taken care of by everybody when they need horns and uniforms and silks and shoes, and who fans pour the most money into.

  8. Then why do we see countless "best show ever" polls/threads that conclude with Star 93 being at or near the top.... at least almost always in the top 5?

....and before anyone says it.... yes I agree that part of the fascination with this show was that it was Star's last..... but regardless, I still view it as a masterpiece.

Because people love to jump on the good ole corpswagon.

Star '93 is way too overhyped these days, mostly by a growing number of bandos whose band directors tell them what an amazing show it is. Not entertaining your target audience of 1990s Corps Fans does not pay the bills, although Star really was pretty secure in money, DCI wasnt. The 90s were a tough time for DCI financially, until Dan Acheson took over the helm, it looked like only a matter of years.

In my opinion, the best show for hornline control was Star 1990. Again, 1991 is much too overhyped for me. Star 1990 is balls to the walls power and precision with theatricality. I also enjoy 1992 (I LOVE THE GE CHEESE!), but that show had some visual ticks in marching and some bubbles in Donnie VanDoren's Wall of Sound/Breathe-Dah, specifically with a few noticeable hangovers.

Any of the shows from 1989-1993 are awesome, but '89 and '90 are my favorites.

  9. I have a good one.

Housing site in Rome New York.

I went to take a shower. I had gotten undressed, put on some flip-flops, and grabbed my shampoo and gel.

As I started walking to the actual shower, from the locker room, I began to notice something odd. The shower itself seemed to be a long tight row, like a small hallway, with cream tiles. I thought it was weird, and so did my corps mates. Then, we heard the sound of distant running water. Deciding to investigate, we traveled down the small hallway, only to be confronted with another showerhead filled hallway. Guess what was at the end of that shower hallway? MORE HALLWAYS!!! After finding even more showerhead filled hallways, we wound our way through a twisting, turning labyrinth maze to find the center room.

Craziest ####### shower Ive ever seen. I mean, who creates a shower like that. Must have been the #### druids again!

I don't trust the Irish!

Was that at the show site, Rome Free Academy?? I was stationed at Griffiss AFB in town for a fcew years after BD....so nice to be stationed in a place with drum corps right nearby!

I think so. It was some kind of weirdass design of a school, but it was within walking distance to the show site. Over 100 degrees, playing on an astroturf field (so it was 120) in black uniforms at noon. I felt like I was hit in the head with a frying pan, and I don't even remember the show. All I can remember is... "WATER!!"

  10. Anyone hear the last trumpet solo from Garfield '87? Yeah, me either, so it's not the key of Bb vs. G. So that argument can just be put to bed now.

Yeah, but there were more fans in the stands then too.

I'm sure what the soloist played was great, but the drowning out of the soloist by the crowd, while you seem him playing there is one of the most legendary moments in drum corps. If he would have been mic'd we would have forgotten about that solo, or at the very least not gotten as many goosebumps.

  11. Kudos to Cadets for the shakos in the guard. But, a clarification: shako straps are NOT designed to hold the shako in place.....the merely rest on the chin to achieve "the look". The shakos SHOULD be fitted very snugly, so snug in fact that they hold themselves on. In the 70's, Boston's rifle line used to put baby powder on their foreheads before taking a good deal of effort to pull the shakos on.....this was to hold them in place during the very aggressive head moves of the day.

They had their hair up, btw, which probably won't work for Cadets since I heard they take their shakos off later on the show. BTW, the shakos if worn properly, should NOT touch the ears. If they do, they are too large and will be loose.

One other thing......old style guards (like Boston, 27, Anaheim etc) had NO problem spinning (including DOUBLETIME) and throwing triples and quads in shakos. Part of the technique of a toss in fact was a head snap straight up to "spot" the throw. Shakos do NOT get in the way of anything.

There WERE tosses in this activity before hair gel replaced shakos.....

Interesting mention of the baby powder and head snap.
