  1. Yes, I should have bought them when I was there........

If anyone can help me procure a championship patch for DCA 1999, 2006, and 2007 it would be great. Website, phone number, whatever.

I'm not on DCP much at all - please email jwolters@hotmail.com. Thanks!!!

A ton of booths had plenty of '06 Patches. In fact the Kilties might. Go to the www.kilties.com and shoot them an e-mail. or

    PM WWBD here on DCP

2005 patches on the other hand are hard to come by. If anyone has one I'll glady take it off your hands ;)

    **EDIT**

Oops didn't see the whole "not on DCP much" deal. I'll shoot over an e-mail.

  2. I once thought IP's PR-1 was the best, until the PR-2 came out. It gives this perfect sound that the Hardimons don't. SC's sticks are OK. I think the worst stick i've ever messed around with is Thom Hannums, It has a horrible feel in my hand, I can't stand the bead!

They took some getting use to no doubt. But I like the pair I have. Nice articulate sound of the drum but if I have to pic one I'm going with the Sco Jo's

  3. I am a HUGE fan of Bad A## Cymbal lines and I am debating on starting one with my high school line(esp. if we can get the winter program going). But my problem is I know NOTHING about technique when it comes to marching cymbal lines. I would look for a staff member but finances aren't there at the moment.

Is there any material (videos, books, etc...) on this stuff?

    or

    Any suggestions?

  4. Maybe the judge was comparing it to last year's bass ensembles still, now THIS is a bass ensemble!

We got a 96 with a 1 point penalty for being two minutes over time.

Yeah man you guys were sick at I&E. I as well missed hearing you guys this last season.

I found all the percussion scores extremely odd to say the least. My group sort of got the opposite reaction from the judges when it was all said and done then we expected going in. I'm not sure what bass ensemble was right in front of us but they sounded great from what little I heard.

Ah well. It's on to '08

  5. After a year off from the field the Skyliners from New York City will be gracing DCA's field of competition yet again bringing back the sights and sounds of the city known throughout the drum corps community for well over 60 years! One of the founding corps of DCA is back baby! Check out the Skyliners on the web at www.nyskyliners.org for further information. BE A PART OF IT!!!

Awesome! Best of luck in '08!

  6. Man... they completely blew me away!!! I think they were the best group out there from what I saw.. maybe it was just their age.. or how clean they were (to me at least).. that was some good stuff..

A hell of a lot better than a lot of the other groups I saw..

Oh.. and a tip for future drumlines... having two hot, half naked girls standing there for your performance isn't going to get you any points if you suck and waste everyones time. If you are going to do that.. at least have them make out or something so we aren't completely bored out of our minds from watching you.. Oh.. and please have them bring a boom box or something so we don't have to hear your god awful singing.. man.. I would rather listen to the Cadets or Carolina singing.. that was horrible.

    You're welcome.

  7. Kilts, I love ya, but Kelsey's horn line tied for the brass trophy. How'd that work out for ya.

And it got them a third place finish. It takes more then a hornline to win. It takes more then a horn book to win. You can have the greatest horn book in the world but it will mean nothing if the rest of the program isn't up to par.

There is no question that will change (all ready has started in my opinion) for next season with Mr. Stewart.

Congrats Cru. Job well done. You sounded good from what I was able to catch. Same to MCL.

  8. Here's some random thoughts:

Work concessions at a local sports arena (out here, working a minor league ball game needs

On top of Brewfest as JC mentions (which is awesome!) we also do a few games a year at Miller Park for the Brewers. From what I understand that goes pretty will for us.

Seeing your from Denver that puts 6 pro teams in your area who probably allow non-profit organizations to run concessions as fundraisers. This is pretty standard practice especially from pro teams with large stadiums. I would definitly look into that. I believe we do about 10 games per year and at Miller Park they require us to have a minimum of 10 people working the stand. Which all that does is determine if we get a percentage of sale or a flat rate per person (which can be a big difference if you sell a lot of stuff).

Something to look into. Good member bonding experience as well and a fun time.

  9. That would be pretty sweet.

I'd imagine a lot of corps in DCA use them. I don't know about the East Corps but i know Kilts use them and I believe Chops and Govies. Not sure on MBI. For some reason I want to say the use innovative. Not sure why I think that....

  10. Simple question, how do I get a Yamaha or Evans logo off a bass drum head.

Acetone. Wipe it down with water afterwards. Make sure you apply it to a rag firts. It will eat the paint off the rims. But the logos will come right off.

  11. Subdividing is key as previously stated.

Get a heavy hitter bass pad from Vic Firth. Seriously. It will be your best friend. It does a good job of letting you know when you are playing out of center (or desired playing position) It also allows you to see your mallet stroke. This helps you make sure your left to right hands are making even strokes to avoid runs from sounding choppy. Also you will be playing on a vertical surface which will force you stick more diddles rather then relying on gravity to help you out.

Work on timing your runs with your feet. This is a major help with difficult syncipated patterns.

Work on increasing your volume without increasing your mallet stroke. A lot of bass drummers (especially young ones) tend to equate loud with big arm motion. Technically that is true but 9 times out of 10 it will cause you to drag. Especially with sustained runs of 3's and 4's.

Learn the check pattern of the run first. If you can't get the check chances are the run won't be as good as it could be. If you are having troubles slow it down and break it down.

Stay relaxed and fluid. Playing bass drum is about flowing. It's hard to flow when your shoulders are up past your ears and you are trying to stick everything with your arms.

That is all. Go kick some butt. Good luck!

  12. By all means be a homer. Nothing wrong with that.

You have your right to your opinion as much as I have a right to post my opinion on your opinion.

I wasn't trying to bash anyone. If it came across that way I apologize.

I'm merely saying that the better Corps on Saturday will get in for Sundays show ( I know it's cliche). Not the one that got more reads. The same was true last year and the Kilties finished a head of Cru. So I guess I don't understand were that logic comes from.

I will say this about Kilties. The morale is extremely high. We had an awesome rehearsal weekend. Weak points have become stronger. Things have been added. And I will put money on Rochester, NY is going to see the BEST Kilties Corps in a long, long time. That is fact.

EDIT: I needed to buy a vowel ;)

  13. All this animosity. My Corps is better...no my corps is better....blah blah. All three Corps I assure you are working really hard to but themselves in finals on Sunday. The Corps are so close in score that any of them could get in.

Just because one corps has been judge more times then the other doesn't mean they stand a better shot at getting in. That is probably the most ridiculous logic I have heard in a long time. The corps that puts on the cleanest, loudest, best product on the field saturday is the one that will get in.

I wish MCL, Cru and all the other corps for that matter the best of luck Saturday. There is going to be one hell of a battle Saturday night.

    GAME ON B)

  14. I think you failed to factor in how much easier it is to perform when your Kilt isn't carrying around an extra 50lbs of water weight. Oh wait, it's in Rochester again. Never mind.

    Go Kilts.

Although i'm sure CRU will do great too.

Good thing the weather this year for finals looks SUPERB!! (knocks on wood)

To bad I can't say the same for the chicago area last night. jeez. Took a boat into work this morning.

    As for the topic....GAME ON!!!!

    ^OO^

  15. I've used uverthing from pin strips to the Evans MX. Ive found the MX to be a little dead for my liking, just personal opinion I just like something with a little more sustain. The pin strips were on the other end of horrable, really pingy, a pain to stretch and they like to pull after about 10 minutes. Maybe it's like the guy said and I can't tune, but I've have bad luck with the pinstripes, although the spocks are realy nice and indestructable. I like the remo crimplocks alot, just for the durability and the ability to change them quickly without worrying about a lot of stetch in the head. We've all had that fun chore of poopng a head right before a show. But they're a little dark for my musical taste. I like the suedes though, right about the middle range, nice sustain, easy to tune, the can get wet (like the super fun show in MN) and not be garbage. They've got a nice life span too if your on a budget and can't affort to change heads every 5 minutes, and if your getting a deal on them I think it's worth it. Just my opinion. See you in NY! And good luck with your choice.

Thanks James. I didn't know you were with MBI.

  16. Man. That is some serious adversity. Kudos to those who are hanging around and stepping up to help out.

That is a tough situation at any stage of the season.

I'm sure you guys will pull through and work very hard to put the best product on the field.

    Best of luck.
