  1. Sorry, I updated the profile. I've actually been looking at Kilties. I started looking into it last fall, but decided I wasn't able to commit the time yet. I think I should probably get involved soon and have the kids be mascots!! Just for history sake, I've spent a lot of time around the Scouts, but only marched with my High School marching band (Oregon, WI).

Thanks for the replies, this was very helpful! Great pics Stoli!

We've got people coming down from that area all ready if you want to set up a car pool. We'd love to have ya!

    plus

I used to compete against Oregon HS when I marched in Lighthouse Brigade. Was Mark Lindsay (sp?) there when you were?

  2. I agree. My high school use to use Remo heads for everything and then we decided one year to make the switch to Evans... It was nice! The guy that played tenors loved them!!!

Yeah I personally like evans heads...but I'll have to start a fight with the director to make that change.

Plus I can get a better deal on the Remo's.

  3. I need some help here. I'm not exactly a tenor guy but I am not fan on how the heads I am currently using sound for my HS line.

I am leaning towards making a change to the Renaissance Emperor heads. I have never used them before so I am curious. Most of the lines I have taught/helped/marched in etc used/uses the Suede Emperor which I like but I kind of want a darker tone.

Any thoughts on these heads or any sugestions?

  4. Our opening weekend we did 3 DCI shows this year. Racine, Rockford and then Lisle.

The crowd respose was good at all 3 but varied. Racine, obviously, was an enthuastic crowd. Rockford surprised me. The crowd was very reseptive and appluaded frequently and seemingly enjoyed our program. That may have had alittle bit to do with field and the seats were pretty close to full. At Lisle the field itself if quite aways away from the stands w/ the track being in between. The stands were fairly empty (compared to later in the evening) and our sound may not have reached everyone as well as it did in the previous venues. Either way the response was a good one at all 3 shows just varied slightly for whatever the reason.

    Good luck

  5. There's none that are all-age right now because the WGI age limit is the winter after you age out from DCI.

    Thats to bad.

I would think one in Madison, WI area would do well. You'd probably pull a lot of High Schoolers, Cap Sound and Scouts members in the area as well as members from the 4 DCA Corps that relatively near(Brass, Chops, Govies and Kilties)

  6. Nope-the Dallas show a few weeks ago and the upcoming Houston show are DCA shows with DCA judges and sheets. I think the MN shows were DCI judges using DCA sheets, but I am not 100% sure on that.

(The Houston show has 2 DCI corps being judged by our DCA judges....hows that for a switch?)

The shows Kilties did were DCI judges on DCA sheets as well

  7. I never would even consider breaking ranks of any corps. Just out of pure respect. Secondly because of pontential injury or damage to people or equipment.

And if anyone trys to do it with my section well...don't mistime it cause that bass is gonna hurt and we aren't gonna move for ya. :P Although it might be slightly entertaining to see it happen.

  8. My Bad :worthy: I was unaware they were so close. I wish the DCA webpage was a little more informative kinda like DCI. I am really dissapointed with the quality of there page offers very limited information!

    It's all good.

We actually have quite a few members from IL. Plus multiple ways to get up to Racine. You can drive obviously. The Metra will take you to Kenosha which is maybe 20 min drive if you decide to not obey the speed limits and membership is more the willing to help pick you up. Amtrak also runs up to Sturtevant which is also a short drive from the practice site but a lot pricier then the Metra OR with the amount of people that live in Chicago and the surrounding areas car pools are always running.

The Corps also works on getting people housing for those staying from out-of-town. Wether it be through a discounted hotel room (people are always looking to share to cut cost even further) or members house that lives in the area.

Yeah the DCA page is not very informative when it comes to corps info.

So all you Chicago people that want to march and compete again COME ON UP!! :P

  9. A dirty line with flat snares will still be dirty when you tilt. Worry about technique first!

    AGREED!! 100%

Clean beats are clean beats. Plain and simple. I personally don't care if they tilt or not. A good line is a good line.

When playing I prefer flat because frankly that is always how I have had mine.

(edited becuase I can't type today)

  10. I think it's entirely possible. There isn't much for Indoor lines in general around me and where I am from. I know there is an indoor line in Kenosha that is just starting up. And there is Pio Indoor which is coming off a terrific 1st season. BUT non are all-age. I would imagine one would do well in SE Wisconsin / Northern IL. I know a few people right away that would do it and I would definitly consider.

I'm interested to see if you get any response

  11. you know whats better then smores? Baritone Crack (ala Crossmen 05)

You get some chips ahoy cookies, some pez, and vanilla frosting.

Dip the cookie in the frosting, then dip it into crushed pez....

sure to fire you up for that evening ensemble!

Wow! That is what I call a Gut Bomb. They should have those as an eating contest rather then hot dogs.

  12. Bluecoats Easily, the most notes of any brass book in DCI this year. No one holds a candle to them on the demand both musically and visually (yes....yes, you read correctly, I said they have more demand visually than the Cavies).

Good Review and Congrats to Bluecoats. They do have a great show indeed and I love it.

    BUT

I think once you see Phantom you will retract that statement. I had a chance to see both corps twice so far. Phnatom in Rockford and Lisle and Bluecoats in Lisle and Kalamazoo. Phantoms horn book is amazing and on the night of the Lisle show was FAR superior to Coats. Now I am not a horn guy but I know running and playing any instrument at 180 is difficult and if you closed your eyes and listen you would have thought they weren't moving.

Both shows are great but I'm not sure based on what I have seen I am ready to give coats the best hornline title yet.

Again congrats Bloooo and nice review

  13. Now, please back to Lisle reviews. I personally think PR has a fantastic show this year. Someone please continue to talk it up!

The PR show is freakin amazing! I love it top to bottom. The pit book is great. The Battery is playing some awesome beats (and getting cleaner day to day. I saw them in Rockford and Lisle and they were much cleaner in Lisle then Rockford). The drill is good and going to get better.

My earlier season favorite BY FAR! (I'll see BD and Cavies this Saturday so that mya change) but yeah Good Stuff from PR!

  14. Chris & Anders - I would love to do it, BUT - 4 kids with #5 due on August 16th. I'm sure you understand. Not sure about camp, we'll have to see how things go. Later

    #5!?! Congrats!!

We totally understand. We'd still like to chat it up with at the least. So if you can make it (time permitting of course) that would be awesome.
