  1. Tom Case, JR. is teching the cymbal line, and we are using the Hannum approach.

Come out to the next camp if you are interested.

You tell big man TC that Steve said hi. I helped him out when he was the cymbal tech at Surf. I was the cymbal tech for Bucs the past 3 seasons. Good luck, always love seeing more cymbal lines out there. How's the interest for lids so far?

  2. I would think that it falls under the Ensemble Music caption.

I am not a Cadets drumline fan, I just wanted to clear that up...

Musicality falls all over EVERY part of the drum score, ensemble, field, everywhere. The field judge is looking at player to player, are their heights together? playing with the same quality of sound? Are volumes the same player to player? If they are both not playing at MF, then it isn't musical. The upstairs cat is looking at groups to groups, snares to bass, and drums to horns, are the snares balanced with the tenors, if not, it isn't musical.

  3. I've had to cut a couple of kids in my day. Say I have 7 cymbal players trying out for 6 spots. The kid who isn't going to make it, say his name is Jimmy. I'll like all 7 kids up and say "Ok, whoever thinks there making the cymbal line, step forward." And as they all step forward, I'll go over , stop Jimmy and say "not so fast Jimmy"

Or maybe I'll put a band-aid on his sleeping gear, since he's been cut.

Seriously though, every kid that I have ever cut, they've know it was coming. At the end of a camp, I bring in all players by themselves, asking them how they did. 100% of the time, if a kid wasn't going to make it, they would say how they messed this up, didn't do this well, so on and so on. I would then tell the kid what they needed to work on if they would like to try out for the group next year.
