The corps leaves Dover, NJ at 10 am, and should return by 6 PM. Interested in seeing what the buzz is about at Skyliners, but have not made it to Dover yet? 11. Monday, February 27, 2006. The Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps would like to thank Eric Sabach and Steve Wands for an exciting weekend clinic! Eric ran two Visual Clinics each day, and took everyone to the next level in preparation for what will no doubt be a challenging, high-energy and entertaining Visual package. Steve Wand’s breathing and brass techniques have taken the Skyliner horn line by fire storm since the Open House, and this weekend he took all Clinic participants through the program. The positives and excitement about this program could be heard throughout the weekend. The Skyliners are looking for a few good baritone players, all they we ask is that you do play the horn already. The emphasis is on building the low end of the brass line. Color Guard Designer and Caption Head John Veninger worked with the guard on Sunday, many of whom took time out from Winter Guard season to spin and toss with the Skyliners. High school students who are looking to get their feet wet in drum corps, spinning with Sky would be an excellent opportunity because we are willing to train our guard members. Look for John with Matawan's guard at shows this winter; stop by and say hi. The Percussion line under the tutelage of Bobby Craig continues to grow and be a real strength. As we head into Spring, the Skyliners are looking for one more snare drummer, a tenor player, and three (3) more front ensemble/pit players. The corps is using a range of Latin Percussion instruments, so if playing songs like "En Fuego" (On Fire) by Emmy® and Grammy® winning jazz artist Michel Camillo is your style of music, the Skyliners is the place you want to be this year! The Skyliners’ next camp weekend is March 11 – 12, 2006, at Dover American Legion Post #27. Go to our website at http://www.newyorkskyliners.org for more information, contact Holly Marino at exiggy1@yahoo.com, or fill out a Skyliner interest form at http://www.newyorkskyliners.org/join.html.
  12. Don't Miss This Fantastic Opportunity to Spend A Day with The SKYLINERS. COLOR GUARD is practicing on Sunday, February 26th from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Dover High School, too. Come on down and meet John Veninger, Color Guard Designer and . . . While the Skyliner battery is full, we are looking for three (3) more Front Ensemble/Pit Players.

  16. WOW! Below are some of the first official pictures that we have gotten from the Production Company for the "Bring the Boys Back" number that members of the N. Y. Skyliners percussion line (and a couple of brass members) performed on January 30th at THE PUBLIC SINGS: A 50th Anniversary Celebration" extravaganza in New York City. Photo Credit for these beautiful, professional photographs: Michal Daniel (this is the way they spelled it.) (I did reduce these slightly so they open more easily on DCP.) The featured star/singer in this song is Tony Winner Chuck Cooper. Our members really enjoyed performing with him. He was so nice to our members, and is very humble but extremely talented. Mr. Cooper was seemingly very impressed with the corp (well, drum line). Working with such professional people helped make this experience that much more exciting and fun. There are more pictures to come, but we wanted to share these ASAP. Sincerely, Doreen Sandor Publicity, New York Skyliners
  17. The next N. Y. Skyliner rehearsal is scheduled: Sunday, February 12th 11:00 am - 5:00 P.M. With SKY ON FIRE, snow should not be a problem . . . . But we will keep you posted. Doreen Sandor
  18. January 31, 2006. The New York Skyliners are pleased to announce that Willy Carmona, the Dover High School Band Director, has recently joined the Skyliner brass staff, and is assisting Dave Negri, the Skyliners’ Brass Coordinator. Willy Carmona is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College of Pennsylvania. He has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Trumpet Performance and Jazz Performance. He was a principal cornet in the concert band and lead trumpet/soloist in the jazz band, both for three years. Willy began his professional career at the age of 15 performing with various Latin groups in the North Jersey area. He continues to freelance with Latin and jazz groups in the Tri-state area. Willy also does some studio work. Most of Willy's performance time is dedicated to playing trumpet, congas, and bongos with Concepto Diferente and the rock fusion band, Java. Most of Willy's time is dedicated to the Dover High School marching Tiger Band. He is in his fifth year teaching at Dover High. Willy has taught nine years total in the Dover School District, beginning his career in Middle School. The Marching Band has grown from 50 members to 110 members since he has taken over the program. Willy also directs the Concert band, pit orchestra and 2 jazz bands. Considering the choice of 2006 repertoire for the New York Skyliners (view Show description at: 2006 N. Y. Skyliners Show Information), Willy’s expertise in Jazz and Latin Jazz performance is a perfect match for this diverse and talented brass staff. Go to our website for updated information and directions: http://www.newyorkskyliners.org, or contact Holly Marino, Assistant Director at exiggy1@yahoo.com.
  19. We are speaking to the people we need to about getting video, pix, etc. We do have the program, and some back stage photos (!) of the Skyliners with some of the stars and performers who participated. While I am gathering information, stories, feedback, I can say that this has overwhelmingly been an amazing experience for our members. More to come! Doreen Sandor
  20. Thanks, Sean, for clarifying the 1981 date for the E. F. Hutton commercial. Plus, you carried a TIMPANI in the American Hostage PARADE? How times change, huh? Nowadays no one would consider MARCHING a timpani. That was an unbelievable experience. We were close enough getting together at the parade to see some of the hostages in convertibles a few feet from us. Marching in Manhattan, down Broadway in a ticker tape parade playing "New York, New York" for unknown number of people. I still have the yellow ribbon that they gave us at some point tied to my old mellophone case. Doreen
  21. JUST A REMINDER! Even though members of the N.Y. Skyliner percussion line (and a few horn players!) have been - and will continue to be - rehearsing for their appearance on Monday evening, January 30th in the one-night only musical extravaganza at the New York City Center entitled, “THE PUBLIC SINGS: A 50th Anniversary Celebration," rehearsal WILL be going on as scheduled! N. Y. Skyliner Camp Weekend Saturday, January 28th 12 to 6 PM AND Sunday, January 29th 10 am to 4 P.M. takes place at: AT DOVER AMERICAN LEGION POST #27 in Dover, N.J. We will NOT be at Dover High School on the 28th, but at the Dover American Legion Post #27 instead. Directions can be found at: Directions to Dover American Legion Post. So much exciting news has been happening over the last few weeks, we want to make sure that anyone interested in checking out the N. Y. Skyliners would be updated. Don't wait to come down and see what the 2006 N. Y. Skyliners have to offer you . . . you never know what is coming next, and what you might be missing! Sincerely, Doreen Sandor Publicity, New York Skyliners http://www.NewYorkSkyliners.org
  22. Jean, That's exciting. Keep us posted with what is going on. At least you don't have to be suspended from a wire! Doreen
