I believe there was a stuck valve for a soloist 2002 Cadets in either quarters, semis, finals. Not sure tho. Don't have much detail either.
it also could have never happened....oh well

"You guys want to know the secret to playing high? And loud and in tune? Leads you'll want to hear this, so get close. Do you want to know the secret?
Play high every day."
-Rudy Arevalos
Couldn't have said it better. There's no magic piece either, its really just what your lips and the rest of your body get used to.
IMO, screaming is 25% musical 75% physical. Lots of air, strong diaphragm, fast air, proper embouchure. Back in my hay day (before corps might I add) I go toe to toe with Maynard on his "La Fiesta" F#. I attribute that to HS track workouts and playing just about every day. My lung cap was off the charts.
granted, i'm not a music major and i'm not a stellar tpt player, but I did make the lean line solely on my volume and range. Those were the good old days

I'm gonna assume that by "getting a ring" we mean winning the championship.
Rings are sweet. Way better than medals cause you can wear it in everyday life without looking somewhat out of place. I went to my corps because I knew my drum corps resume was going to be very short and I wanted to be with the best. Not to mention they were the closest to me. It all kinda worked out.
As a rookie I really didn't care about the show design or what people would be saying afterward. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to march and play louder, faster, and better than anyone else. it is also quite impossible to be focused on winning all the time. If you know the dots and music things will fall into place.
I really don't care what other people thing about my shows. So I guess I'd rather win than be famous

What's so demanding that the judges don't get it? IMO the judges are placing them exactly where they belong because the show isn't as effective as others in their neighborhood. IMO, the fatal mistake they made was trying to force a show around a story line that sounded like something an 8th grader would write. On top of that they have their stage and all the characters so far upstage that they can't connect with the audience. The Cadets are still a great corps, but their package isn't going to hang in the top three IMO.
I'd say that's true for the GE judge. Everything else is supposed to be based on demand and execution.
Its all a game; sometimes you play and win others you play and lose. Either way you must play

this isn't working well.....scores are being posted and being missed and stuff.

I wish they stopped putting in so many changes/material in 2006. Then maybe I/people wouldn't have ticked like a clock on finals night

I'm sorry, I don't want to be mean, but this thread is all kinds of fail. LOLCats stopped being funny about 4 years ago and people are still beating these atrocities of humor into the ground. Seriously "lolcorps" isn't funny and is a testament to the true lack of humor some people lack. Seriously, some of you are trying so hard, it's almost embarrassing.
more pictures!!!

so who wants to start up a new drum corps?
-
I wouldn't mind. There's DCA and Open if you cant hang with World.
I bet it takes at least 3 more years to get down to 16 anyway. Academy Mandarins and Pioneer arnt all going to fold the same season, they will just raise tour fees like they do every year. And I bet Cascades returns next year. I don't know anything about Southwind but I wouldn't be surprised to see them back out also.
I think Jersey Surf may move up

I was looking over the caption scores just now and a question popped into my head.
When talking about GE, How does one generate more GE than a show about ENDINGS? Usually the end of the show is about GE, well, this makes Crown's show 100% fueled with GE all over the place. Now that they're getting the hang of things they could do extremely well this year....
so...
...how to beat Crown in GE? Any takers?

I'm not nearly Drum Corps seasoned enough, but I do believe there's many more drill moves that have been shielded from our eyes due to multi-cam. There's no way to catch everything and nothing at the same time.
in Cadets '05 during the quad section solo the hornline is doing some wicked stuff in the background. Check it out
The only reason I know about this is 'cause I marched it. it may have also made a quarters or semis dvd cut.
-
Speaking of GIMMICKS... does narration ring a bell for you? Hmmm???
narration is hardly a gimmick.
pretending to march and play at the same time...is
hrns down, face dot, run, also....is
I have no problem rooting for a team that has excellent execution as well as demand. You see those devils on the field? They're great! When the music starts, so do the feet! wow! :)
All things aside, samurai was rather flat to me. Its not just my dislike for sneaky drumcorps, I just don't like the show. (I have liked Cavies in the past)
glad see another engineer on the boards!
-
if cavies win with "Samurai" I quit @ life. Seriously green team, enough with the gimmicks. March and play simultaneously, not march AND THEN play.
My money is on BD....ppleeaassee lord, if its not cadets let it be BD. pplleeaasssseeee

i think this year is loaded with great shows. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Div I shows @ Clifton.
yeah, thats right...i said DIV I! :P

I got 6min53sec=413 sec for Cadets 05. nearly an extra min
413sec/690sec=59.8%
The max time for a drum corps show is 11.5 mins=690 sec. The numbers you used for CBC '05 puts the show at 12.1 minutes....impossible :)
just some loving constructive criticism

Motion to nominate Irving to stay on tour for the entire summer

Part of me is glad I never had to go through that training...but man could we have used him in 2006
06 wasn't THAT hard...

Crown's hornline seems to get better each year, but I had trouble remembering exactly when I first started to get "hip" to them being a legitimate hornline. What about you?
still waiting....i never had that good of an ear tho. can;t even tune myself :-P
