  2. On one hand if you look at the recaps from last night the guys dropped most in one caption - Ensemble Music. The night before they were right behind SCV in that same caption. Take the low score in ensemble music out and you find that the corps is right where they should be.

One the other hand if you look at the GE Music scores you will see that Rep and Perf are the same for the Scouts. That is never a good sign for this time of year. The corps that are in the best shape will have at least 2 to 3 tenths of gap here. A tie in GE captions means that you don't have much growth potential.

  3. Thanks for all the birthday wishes from everyone. I cant wait to see the Corps, they are going to be great. Always are. I think we will all be impressed with the product that Cris and Company are going to put on the field. To the Men of MADISON, have fun being Superstars. Cant wait to see the feet, and the 20 CONTRAS. You vets better blow me away. Jason- M.Y.N.W.A.

    Hey Jason,

I'm coming over for Drums On. Seeing/hearing the corps will be cool but heck it's June. Everybody is weak in June. I'm coming to hang with you and my old buds. Can't wait to put the jacket on again!

  4. Wrong on both counts Vince. Each member will wear a "Uni-Spat". Tougher to march in,

but will certainly build character!

And yes - 1 month to go!!! I will be flying into Wisconsin around June 23rd and plan to catch

Drums on Parade and the Cedarburg show. I can't wait to see the guys peal some paint

and hit me with that wall of sound!

    Jeff,

Hope to see you at the Cedarburg show.

  5. Hello All,

I'm thinking about coming down for finals but I don't have tickets as of today. I'd like to sit in a Madison Scout block if possible. Anywhere between the 30's would be fine. I don't know what the going rate is as I have never been to finals as a paying fan. Tickets for Semi-Finals would be an option as well.

    Hope to hear from you,

    Clay Wachholz

Sorry for not offering more information. I'm in need of two tickets. I'd like to buy them off of a Madison Scout supporter. Please get back to me if you know of anyone who has a couple of extra tickets.

    Thanks,

    Clay Wachholz

  7. "For years the Scouts were a training ground for many many successful instructors who moved on so they could pay the bills."

This statement offends me. Training ground?

    Great points Dan,

For years the Scouts were a training ground for many many successful instructors who moved on so they could pay the bills.

I heard a story of Scott asking the board for a raise once in the 90's, from 10K a year to 11K! Saint Scott The Frugal indeed.

Remember he was the director and the Exec. director. Those days are gone now and its time to move on.

The Scouts have by no means "lost their identity" as some experts in this thread suggest. The people running this operation all all dedicated

Scouts alumni who are doing their best to make sure the Scouts are around for another 70 years. There are a lot of Scouts alumni spouting off

on DCP who maybe should get their buts away from the computer and do what they can to help the Scouts during camps, tour or whatever.

If the Scouts mean something to you do something to help and stop whining about what you think is wrong.

It was great seeing the Kilts in Madison Dan, drum corps is Scott's calling in life and I'm happy to see he's back where he belongs.

  8. It was a mellow, respectful, sophisticated crowd and not the rabid sort. I told others after leaving the show that this was a show that Madison's fans and alumni would be happy with, and I believe they were. From where I sat near the top of the 50 yard line, all the way across the seating there appeared to be a lot of appreciation for and positive reaction to the power and excitment of Madison's show, in both their field performance and their encore. The comments above aren't necessarily inaccurate, but it should not be assumed that the crowd did not like Madison just because they weren't going nuts for the entire time. And as someone else pointed out, there was another major event across town that was postponed from Saturday night to Sunday night, and so a lot of people were probably on the move to get there. It was certainly too beautiful of an evening to scatter otherwise, and we know that drum corps crowds don't do that, least of all from such a pleasant setting.

I've been in the audience for numerous victory concerts given by the Madison Scouts. Quite often the audience seems subdued because they are listening to the music so intently. I know I was;) I'm sure this was the case at DOP.

  9. Past Men of Madison... The current guys and staff are holding up their end of the bargain. The alumni are not. 99 of us have paid our 2008 Alumni dues for $70.

That leaves about 2901 of us who have not paid our alumni dues to help out the corps. Please go to madisonscouts.org and at least pay your alumni dues. If you can plan for $10 a month for 3 years, help out the Explorer Fund, past colorguard members help set the foundation for our guard legacy through that fund, etc. We NEED to do our part. Many of us are calling alumni to check out if your information is correct in the database and asking if you can help the corps out on the road, or financially. Please, "JOIN THE CORPS" once again. Do whatever you can to sustain this wonderful experience for the fans, members, alumnae, and supporters of The Madison Scouts.

I challenge the guys from 87-89 to donate the $70 Alumni Dues, $20 to the gas fund and to buy $40 worth of souvies, then volunteer for 1 thing left in this summer. Match my donation. This institution is precious to me and what it has taught me. Let's help the staff continue to develop successful people through the experience of drum and bugle corps. The current members and staff sacrifice so much. Please re-invest lunch money (awesome story!), cigarette money, beer money, time, talents, (What you can do put here) to the current Men of Madison!

    MYNWA,

    Brent

    Sop 87-88

    Mello 89

    Vis Staff, 90-92, 93-96 & 07

    Thanks Tom Brace!

    Forgot.......GO SCOUTS!!!!!

    Brent,

I'm getting in touch with the "Milwaukee Crew" as best I can.

  10. Thanks Brent, i think it must be the BE1 Canon in D. the clip which is on the PBS video is the 1st place Brass ensemble with a 98 or a 99 high score. Now all i need is for somebody with a copy of the full performance to post it on the FORBIDDEN site.

It was BE1 playing Canon in D

We took 2nd to the Colts after having won four years in a row prior to '89. Colts were great! No problem losing to them.

Blame Dan Ritacco for the selection. I told him it would never win. Blame Dan Ritacco :( ! :)

  11. I think its kinda pointless to predict the top 12 10 years from now.Its just way too hard to predict.ANYTHING can happen within the corps itself, and its just too hard to make predictions that early.

That's the fun of the post. Who knows if there will even be an activity in ten years?
