  1. No, the doors rotated, and it was a different person each time. If you look close, you can see the guard person exit out the back of the prop. That's how they had all four of the girls at the end of the show.

That is not the same effect...

Sigh, I don't know why I argue with you about this stuff. If it is BD you hate it no matter what.

  2. Like I said, a month ago, I would've agreed with you, because Crown indisputably had the best show on the field a month ago.

I'll put it another way. If "For the Common Good" wasn't a DCI champion, I'm not sure it's safe to say "E = MC^2" will be. Partially because of the competition: "Re:Rite of Spring" > "Cabaret Voltaire," and Cadets this year definitely > Cadets last year. I don't feel that way about Crown, to be honest. FTCG was more of a powerhouse, to me.

Then again, percussion notwithstanding, I bet EMC2 will be a cleaner show that FTCG was, which is kind of what matters the most right now. I think they'll need to be really, really clean to win, though. Like... "Stonehenge" clean. If they give us a "Four Corners," game over, BD wins.

I still stand buy my previous posts that this is 2008 Part 2 and Crown is going to win Finals by a slim margin just so that DCI can reap the benefits of the emotional, yet incorrect, placement. Mark my words...Crown wins Finals guaranteed.

  3. I guess if you believe that, then BD '10 was a ripoff of SCV '85. Same idea. Apparently that matters to you, so there you go.

Lol, no it isn't the same as 1985 SCV. Doing a "magic trick" isn't the ripoff. Having people run thru a tunnel and change clothes isn't the ripoff. The ripoff is having someone go into a "doorway" and reappear as if "teleported" from another "doorway" somewhere else on the field. That is a pretty specific theme that was used REALLY recently. With your broad interpretation you could boil anything down to being a ripoff...both corps have uniforms? RIPOFF! Both shows are marched by humans? RIPOFF! Both corps are created from the same basic building blocks of nature? RIPOFF!

This is a very specific theme of "guy enters portal and is teleported and comes out other portal instantly". That is a VERY specific idea that looks like it is being completely ripped off. But hey, put on your purple blinders and try to not see what is right in front of you.

  4. If you don't want to read about Crown's new ending stop reading here!

I don't know exactly how new it is but it definitely wasn't in the show in Atlanta.

They've added two more large circular objects to the field (with the same thematic E=mc^2 writing that you see on the drums, etc.) that are big enough to fit people inside. In the old ending the character who played the male lover ran across the field to the woman. Now he goes into one of the circles on the left side of the field and then simultaneously comes out of one on the right side of the field, as if traveling through some kind of worm hole. Ironically very similar to what BD did with mirrors in 2010.

Honestly it looked like it still needed a bit of work but could be pretty cool by finals. The trick was a little too obvious and it looked like they had a little trouble with the flaps so you could clearly see what was about to happen. I think it would have worked better if the circles were turned either so he entered from either the left or behind but it was clear they wanted to try and make it look like he was exiting at the exact same time as he was entering but the illusion wasn't quite there for me.

Man that is a pretty blatant rip off.

I'd enjoy Blue Devils more if what they were playing came off as music instead of something written using a random number generator. #DCI

I must be crazy or something...I can always follow every corps musical selections no matter how crazy or out there people think it is. This show by BD isn't even that out there musically. You can literally go buy the rewrite of sprint album and it is pretty #### faithful. Thank god everything isn't just Malaguena year after year. I am so thankful that I am not so close minded as to only be able to enjoy a very narrow range of music.

  6. Don't close it yet. I want to wait until next Saturday night, at about midnight CDT, after BD's inevitable victory. Then I will post my "See, I told you so" and "I hate being right all the time" comments. Then I will come back next August, and say the exact same things.

I bet you 1000 dollars that Crown wins finals night. Guaranteed. 2008 all over again.

  7. Just imagine how many DCI titles the Blue Devils would have won if... as you are implying here.... DCI did not fix it so some other Corps won it that year. But actually, I don't buy this " DCI judges are anti Blue Devils " stuff at all. Its nonsense. If anything, the current DCI judges ( some of whom have been judging for over 40 years now )actually like the show staff of the Blue Devils and if anything tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. Its akin to the NBA where the superstars tend to get the refs call when its a superstar vs. an opposing bench player and they both are involved in either the offensive charging call or the defensive touching call. Or a prize fight between the current Champion vs. a Contender. The Contender pretty much has to KO the Champ to win. If its a draw and it goes to points, the Contender usually then is SOOL.

Hey, I was trying to go completely opposite to the usual judges are screwing Crown and Madison angle! I don't believe it either, just trying show ppl how stupid they sound with the conspiracy theory crap!

  8. I still say that Crown wins on Saturday 100%. Not because they are better but because DCI can then have another 2008 finals. They are close enough to first that bumping their percussion score up a couple spots on Saturday and dumping BD a bit in guard or some random category will be enough to put them in 1st without looking totally like it was a setup to get the honks to go crazy like they did in 2008 when the wrong show won.

Last year was gonna be the next 2008 but the BD show was just way too far beyond Crown's show design and performance wise that it would have looked too obvious if they won that it was a setup to get the current "fan favorite" to win. You will see. Crown wins Saturday and their percussion gets no lower than 3rd despite being a bag of ###.

  9. It's not bullcrap when I can sit in the stands on the fifty yard line, look right and left, and see the crowd responses to the shows for myself. It is very easy to see how the majority of the people in the stands are responding to the shows and tell how the majority feel about them by that response. If almost the entire crowd sits on their hands for the duration of one show, then rises to their feet on multiple occasions on the next, is this delusion? This is what I saw in Atlanta from Blue Devils to Crown. I'm not saying Crown deserved the win. Anyone watching closely knows their drum score is what is pulling them down. But as for what the majority of the crowd in Atlanta felt about the Blue Devil's show, it was extremely evident. You could see it as plain as you could see the field. To deny this is to be dishonest with yourself. I think rather than arguing with the Atlanta crowd, BD supporters should take a closer look at why the Stanford crowd booed when the Blue Devils won. After all, that is home territory for them. When your own crowd dislikes your show, you might take a clue that it is not going to be supported elsewhere either. Blue Devil's used to be exciting, entertaining, and excellent. Of late, most of the crowd finds them to be only excellent. We yearn for exciting and entertaining to return. When this happens, they can win all they want and the boos will go away. I know this from speaking not to haters (for in actuallity I have never met one) but from speaking to people who loved what they used to be. I myself loved them from 1976 on, but these shows of late are not the Blue Devils I know.

I think the point is that you don't know why they were sitting on their hands. Here are a few possibilities out of an endless sea of them with some being more likely than others, but all equally disprovable by you.

    1. They dislike the show because of the show itself

    2. They dislike Blue Devils because they are beating their favorite corps

    3. They are the parents of a Cadets member and are mad that BD beat Cadets

    4. Their friend next to them said that BD sucked and they don't want to look lame in front of their friend

    5. They enjoyed it but don't have the personality to jump up and scream

    6. Dave Gibbs punched their mother in the face once at a college party and now they hate BD because of it

    7. The Troopers paid them 1000 dollars cash to not cheer for them because they got a better show site with hot water than they did

    8. They are tired of BD winning and want ANY other corps to win

    9. They don't understand the activity as well as you and think that Jersey Surf should be in first place because they like the comedy

    10. They are sitting in an area of Crown honks and they all boo'd BD and they didn't want to cheer and clap for risk of being embarrassed or confronted

There are literally endless options that YOU CAN'T PROVE without knowing what every single person is thinking. All of these are possible reasons (some more than others obviously) and all are different and it for sure doesn't prove that the show is boring to everyone or the vast majority like you all seem to trumpet.

Why can't you just accept that you don't like the show for whatever reason and leave it at that? Why do you try and force on other people that the judges are scoring it wrong or there is some personal vendetta against the fans by Gibbs and the design team. God, it is like listening to a bunch of little kids ##### and moan when their mom gives them a sandwich without the crusts cut off.

  10. . . . exactly, and that's the disconnect. Music is a form of communication. Communication requires the participation of two or more parties. I watch BD, and I feel like they don't even know I'm there. They're doing it for themselves. No communication = no music = no likey

I feel like they know I'm there and I get a connection from it. So I guess that invalidates everything you just typed. Weird how that works.

  11. Whoa.. slow down there, Cowboy, you're at too much of a giddy up gallop requesting me too many " things to prove ". Bring your horse and you to a stop for a moment and I tell you what I said:

My central observation here was that BD's show is boring for most people in coast to coast audiences. I make this observation based upon personal observation at shows, from several observable and quite detectable audience responses to their show both visually and auditorily on Fan Network. Such an assessment does not require me to " get into everyone's mind " as I have already acknowledged to you on here above that there are some people, like you, that love and enjoy the 2013 BD show this year. I certainly recognize that some people are jealous of BD's success, and that there are people out there that don't like BD for 1000 other reasons. I don't speculate on the reasons WHY BD's show is not liked by a lot of people. Thats not in my domain.Thats not my call. I only point out that BD's shows of late are disliked by a lot... a LOT... of people from coast to coast. But so what ? Why does this anger you or others so much when this seemingly inocuous and perhaps undeniable assessment is made ? There are still LOTS of other shows to like, some of whom you might dislike.. and you are likewise entitled to that dislike assessment as well with those shows if thats your opinion. More people from Coast to Coast like the Troopers show more than the Blue Devils show. But few of them that I've observed are telling us that the Troopers should be placing ahead of the Blue Devils. They are simply expressing to us... in a very observable and detectable manner... which of these Corps shows they find more entertaining. And whats so wrong with their expressing this preference ?

I'm not "angry", I just can't stand when the people on these forums slap on the blinders and can't admit to themselves that they are biased against BD because they are beating their "team". BD is not purposefully trying to make you not enjoy Drum Corps. They are putting out a product that attempts to do something a little different than what the corps around them do and that is targeted to a group of people that enjoy what they are doing while trying to be as competitive as possible. If you read carefully, usually the ONLY thing us "BD honks" are replying with is trying to explain to people that the organization is NOT trying to ruin drum corps, or that they don't care about the fans, or that they are trying to only play for the judges. All of that is obvious crap and is just sour grapes from people that are mad that their team isn't winning or wahtnot. It is incredibly frustrating to hear the same argument over and over and then when someone who actually has facts comes in and says "Hey wait, that isn't true...this is" it does absolutely nothing to help the matter. The very next post is the same old "I really respect how talented they are, but BD is trying to ruin the entire drum corps experience for everyone! WAHHHH why isn't Crown winning??" It is so obvious but people just can't accept it and so they come on here with like minded individuals and ##### and moan.

And be honest, if the Troopers were beating Crown a lot of those same people would be hating the Troopers right now instead of BD and if BD was in 5th place instead of 1st, no one would be saying $^#$.

  12. I have not devalued your opinion for liking the Blue Devils show this season. I would ask you in return to not to devalue my opinion for not particularly caring for it, and expressing as such on here.

As a follow up, BD's show this season, while enjoyed by you ( and others )have been mostly disliked from coast to coast with audiences. As an analogy, there are people that love rum raisin ice cream. For some, its their favorite. They tell us they love it. Thats fine. We acknowledge this. We allow them that freedom to enjoy it, and to tell us how much they enjoy it too. But we also recognize that rum raisin ice cream is not liked by a lot of people. Most enjoy other flavors. When these people tell us they dislike rum raisin ice cream, we likewise allow them to express that personal opinion. It has no bearing on the person that likes the rum raisin ice cream either. They still get to enjoy it, and to tell us so. Likewise, the rum raisin ice cream eaters get to listen to others tell you how much they dislike rum raisin ice cream. Thats how the world works. If you like something that is not popular you learn why a lot of people don't care for it. It becomes an education all around, as we get to tolerate and apprrciate each other's diversity of opinions, as I do yours now.

You can't prove any of that. You can't prove that people boo or complain because they find it boring, or because they think Madison or Crown or Troopers should be winning because they like that show better or because it is their alumni corps or their kid marches Crown or because they are tired of BD "always" winning. Maybe they just want ANY other corps to win because they are tired of it being a forgone conclusion who will win it all in Indy. You can speculate that people find it boring, but you can't for sure know that without knowing every single person's thoughts. I am going to guess that there are some ppl that find it boring or otherwise dislike the show for some reason relating to the product on the field, but I am willing to bet that there are also a boatload of people that complain or golf clap or boo for any of 100 different reasons. Hell, to give you a gauge of the level of knowledge that most "fans" of the activity have you should read some of the comments on the facebook posts from DCI. People actually saying that Phantom should be in first place and BD's show stinks because they use props, but Cadets show is amazing...everyone has their crap to complain about and their reasoning and it is not all because "BD's show is boring". Stop projecting your personal feelings onto everyone else in the stands until you have proof that you know wtf you are talking about.

  13. Its a good observation and assessment.

Its also holds true as well that if Corps staff design a boring show, or if MM's go to Corps with a recent history of putting out boring shows, don't complain later when lots and lots of people from coast to coast for 9 weeks in duration tell you that you are freaken boring.

What is "boring" to you is not boring to everyone. Your opinion is no more valid than mine.

  14. This year marks the first year in my adult life I have not been to a DCI show. The reason???? I have no interest in seeing any of the shows. I am not going to let DCI see one dime of my money this year. NOT ONE DIME.

Sorry if it hurts the activity. But the Activity that we love needs to know that we will not stand for this. Changes need to be made.

Good. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. You should also delete your forums account here and never post again if you are serious. OR, you can continue to ##### and moan about how you will never watch another show and this and that and then show up here in a week to complain some more because your favorite show isn't winning. "What you like" is not the same as "what is the best". I for one hope you just go off and find something you enjoy doing and leave us alone so we can enjoy what DCI is now.

  15. I liked the Godfather Show and the show in, what was it-- 87 when they wore the gray uniforms and played "happy days are here again"? Classy stuff. Ironically enough it seems most BD fans don't like that show. Again, a matter of taste.

It was 1988...but where do you get that most BD fans didn't like it lol? It is one of their most highly regarded shows by pretty much everyone and considered to be one of the best hornlines ever fielded.

  16. It doesn't matter how good the solo is. BD will never, ever, ever get credit for it. At least not in these pages.

Put the same show with Carolina Crown and it would get hailed as drum corps genius. BD just draws hate from all angles because they do it better than anybody else.

Man, ain't that the truth! It always cracks me up. People saying the show is garbage and whatnot, but if it was Blue Knights or Madison playing it they would be hailing it as the greatest show of all time! Of course they will come here and reply to this with "That isn't true! I would hate it no matter who performed it!" which we all know is bull. Hell, crown is spouting complete nonsense over their entire ballad and somehow the Crown honks who always complained about voice over in BD 2005 or The Cadets shows are trying to say it is all of a sudden awesome. What a bunch of hypocrites.
