  1. Ok. I have seen both of these shows live. I have also watched the DVDs and listened to the audio of both shows in my car numerous times.

I have concluded that The Cadets 2005 program was almost leaps and bounds more difficult than the Cavaliers 2002 program from multiple perspectives.

Over and Over I said to myself......THIS IS CRAZY!!!! About halfway through The Cadets 2005 program ( Kill Bill, Liquid, & The Ballad ), they had already "done" more than the Cavaliers 2002 program. I am talking from a physical persective and from a difficulty of music perspective. ( not to mention the fact that these demands were simultaneous). ( you can make the same comparison with Cavies 2002 and Cadets 1998......the contrast is even more disturbing)

Execution wise I would say both shows are infinitely comparable, but in terms of physical demand and amount of difficult music, The Cadets win the argument by a LONG SHOT. It's not even close. Not even.

I love the Cavies but they I think they need to step up the amount of physical and musical demand in their shows. The Cadets IMHO ALWAYS seem to beat the Cavies and any other drum corp in this category.

The Cadets constantly play more difficult music and more of it.

When The Cadets lose, it's never because they didn't play and march a show difficult enough to win. They lose because they didn't perform their show well enough.

However, in recent years, When the Cavaliers lose, it seems to be that their show was not difficult enough to win over the Judges. ( perfect example last year......The Cavies were extremely clean!!!, but The Cadets show, filled with fast tempos ex. 184, 196, 220, 186, stacked full of ensemble percussion licks and mello runs made the Cavies show seem easy. That in my opinion is how the 99.15 came about. The Judges felt they needed to reward The Cadets that much more than they rewarded the Cavies. Since they felt that way.......Well.....they did.

I am not tryin to bash the Cavies. They are great. I am just saying that The Cadets constantly rail them in the physical & musical demand category. When I watch the Cavies and am utterly impressed, but many moments when I watch The Cadets I am like OMFG!!! The Cavies have never gotten an OMFG!!! moment from me. If they stepped their demand up, they could pull one out of me. ^_^

In short, Cavalier shows in general: Very Difficult

Cadets shows in general: More Difficult than Very Difficult.

The 99.15 were virtually equally clean, but Cadets 2005 was physically and musically more difficult than Cavies 2002.

Therefore The Cadets win the battle of the 99.15s. :music:

    I completely agree

  2. Really? Because I know someone that marched BD in 99 and he told me about how "at some show in Denver" they went on after Cadets and as they were rounding a corner coming towards the gate they heard a big "Ohhhhhh" from the crowd, and when they came around they saw a whole bunch of Cadets lying on the ground/scrambling to get up.

And since this was pretty much the only show they had together out in Colorado, I kind of thought he meant Drums Along the Rockies. But maybe he was just lying to me?

    yes

  3. On paper, The Cadets have arguably the best chance of winning this year with no staff changes, the continuation of a cutting-edge concept/design, and their willingness to take chances with things like solo vocals and props (whether you like them or not, it takes “big ones” to take these high-level risks). I think their biggest risk is the possibility that Mark over-designs the show.

Several others have a good chance as well but aren't bringing anything new to the table, which seems to be one factor the judges are looking for from a champion in this new era.

While I’m sure the Cavies show will be spectacular and performed very well, it really is just another Frameworks or Spin Cycle type show with just a different name, plus it will likely take a year or two for the new and old staff to gel. My brothers will flame me for this one, but I also think their drills have started to lose their uniqueness with other designers incorporating some of the Gaines concepts and Gaines own drills becoming variations on the same themes. But I’ve seen nothing on the field yet, so MG might come out with very different moves from anything he’s had them do in the last six years.

The Blue Devils are basically doing Gangster Chronicles II and don’t tend to be successful innovators so will probably only win by outdistancing the others in execution. However, they are probably so ###### off from their 2005 placement that they’ll be The Cadets’ most likely contender.

Phantom has a history of not being able to design two really great shows in consecutive years and have staff changes.

The Bluecoats, while making significant strides, have not yet reached the level of design, difficulty and execution that is required of a champion (watching the rebroadcast of the 2005 show at the Showcase last week really showed off all the problems with marching, especially their intervals).

While many have offered other names, from Crown to Blue Stars, that could possibly win, I don’t see anyone else with a significant possibility of victory. This includes Santa Clara who will be lucky to hold their 2005 position with an entirely new staff and other strengthening corps at their level.

Reading this post was a breath of fresh air. It is one of the most intelligent posts I've read on this forum. Thank you.

  4. It depends on your definition of "better".

(With apologies, sorta, to President William Jefferson Clinton.)

If there was a DCI show and a DCA show on the same day, and both were of equal distance from my home. Also,, both featured the most competitive corps both circuits have to offer. Why should I attend the DCA show instead of DCI?

  5. I was at this show. I am always disappointed in the Harrison show. Although the good thing is it is not very big so you don't feel crowded. However, the plane is so annoying. That guy is always flying it. I suppose that it is not as bad as the Centerville show when a lamb or goat started crying out in the middle of a show. Haha.

  6. Well, you know. I'm really concerned about the sound in the domes. The echo might be too bad. This thread has shown that nothing positive can happen from this show. As you know, I am from the southwest and there aren't any drum corps fans there. The show should just be cancelled.
