  1. ...

What Scott did best, though..was the ethic he instilled in the members...the fraternity of that corps. ...

These are still Scott's greatest gifts to the members of the Kilties. It makes for a truly special and meaningful

membership experience. I've found that you are never too old to learn life lessons in our drum corps.

I will say this...the Kilties are lucky to have Scott. And Scott is lucky to be doing what he loves to do.

It is indeed a good match!

  2. Maybe votes should be given to all finalists,.................10 Opens and 4 Class A votes

This one makes me cringe. It promotes a 10 corps open class with no growth.

In other words, it promotes moving down in class to snag a voting membership.

Voting rights should be given to the top performers from the previous year.

I'm all for expanding the number of voting members in DCA, just not like this.

  3. Friday Night = I&E and Minicorps as it is now.

Saturday = All corps compete head-to-head in Prelims. The top 6 Class A and Top 12 Open Class Corps move on to Finals. If a Class A corps scores in the Top 12, they can compete in Open Class AND potentially win the Class A Title.

Sunday Morning = Alumni Spectacular as it is now.

Sunday Night = Finals starts at 4:00 instead of 5:18 and features 6 Class A and 12 Open Class Corps in Competition.

    I like this.

  4. The truck pulled into Racine from New York after midnight (this morning). 8 days after leaving Rochester. HUGE thank you to Jimmy and Jay for overseeing this (on site) from top to bottom, and to Antonio who traveled to New York to help drive the truck back to Racine with Jimmy.

One final performance of The Kilties at our annual fundraiser (Great Lakes Brewfest) on Saturday; then we regather at Membership Day on December 5th.

Thank you all for your kindness and support.

    YAY!!!!!!!

Thanks to Jimmy, Jay and Antonio for going above and beyond the call of duty so we can have equipment for

our performance at the big Great Lakes Brewfest!! The 5000 or so people in attendance will also be glad that

we will have equipment for our performance.

We did have a plan B in case the truck didn't make it home...

The Kiltie Khoir would probably have gone over pretty well

There are only a couple of hundred tickets left. Get your tickets here:

  5. Last night I was surprised by four of my Kiltie brothers showing up at my house in FULL Kilite uniform and presented me with the Claymore sword that was carried in the A-squad at DCA Championships this year. Steve (Hairbear) Masters had it engraved with "Racine Kilties- Wea Winna Bea Daunted" and my best friend Al Cunningham's name. Al had passed away suddenly this summer and was to march the A-squad one last time. I was going to march his spot in his honor but could not get out of a work trip which did not allow me to get to Rochester. Al, Hairbear and I had all marched together both in the Ohio Brass Factory and Kilties over the years. Hairbear had said he wanted me to have the Claymore after DCA and I thought that wasn't going to happen.

Current Kiltes Marty, Caroline, Eric and Mandy made the effort to bring the sword to me and the extra special step to present it to me in full unis. This shows the class of the Kilties, them, Hairbear and the drum corps family. I feel blessed to be part of this family and the bonds we have made over the years. May we all share these bonds forever. WWBD

    Kemo

I got a chance to see the sword before prelims. Hairbear showed it to me and said, "Aldo will be on the field with us today".

It gave me and the rest of the mellos a boost. I'm glad the sword will reside with you brother Kemo. We missed you, too, in Rochester.

  6. This is the man guys... totally responsible for everything on the jumbotron and that amazing collage in retreat... instant replay city... Mike, you might not get another Emmy for the coverage but you get a huge thank you from me...

I can't tell you how impressed I was with Mike's great work on the jumbotron!!! I think Mike should get another Emmy! The amazing collage at retreat got me all welled up. Thanks again for the great work!!

  7. We've become so accustomed to Allen Buell and his committee running a great championships weekend that it appears we have not posted a public thank-you in these forums...so I'm honored to initiate one.

A HUGE thank you to Allen Buell and the DCA championships committee for another fantastic weekend! There are so many moving parts to a weekend like this and so many constituencies to keep happy, that it takes a huge effort by a lot of people with a strong leader to pull it off successfully. It was more than successful...it was exceptional. Thank you, thank you thank you!

Well said Tom! The entire weekend was indeed exceptional! Allen and his championship comittee once again outdid themselves!

To quote Tom once again: "Thank you, thank you thank you!"

  8. No doubt Jay will make the best of a bad situation. :guinesssmilie:

You're absolutely right about that Matt. Like me, Jimmy and Jay had a fantastic time in Rochester, and they won't let a little thing like this tarnish the fond memories from 2010 DCA Championships!

Thanks to everyone at DCA for delivering a great championship experience!! Your tireless efforts are greatly appreciated by all of us!!!

  9. Lozar?

    Dr. Dale,

Frank da Beard's real name is Frank Lozar. Most of us Wisconsinites have only ever known him

as "Frank da Beard". I first met Frank in 1978 as a rookie in the Boys of 76 and over the years

have developed a friendship with Frank. He's one of the good guys in the activity for sure!

Frank is 82 now, and I'm not sure he's making the trip this year.

    On a side note:

Frank was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2005. From the WDCHOF web site:

    FRANK LOZAR

Frank Lozar has a record of lifetime dedication to drum & bugle corps. He began playing a soprano horn in 1947 and has continued marching and playing without interruption for 58 years. At the age of 77, he still marches and plays with a competitive corps, the Minnesota Brass. Frank was the Director of MB from 1963-1969. He also performed with Hamms Indians for 6 years and has also performed with the Zuhral Shrine.

    See you this weekend, brother.

  10. Let's see . . . for our regular season competitions this year:

    Madison: turf

    Stillwater: turf

    TCF: turf

    Jamestown: turf

    Racine: grass

    Kenosha: grass

    St. Peter: grass

    S. St. Paul: grass

So I guess about 50-50 for us.

As noted, turf fields vary almost as much as grass fields although they rarely need to be mowed.

I know it was a while ago and these details are hard to remember, but Kenosha was at Alan Ameche Field which is turf. That stadium doubles as our Sunday rehearsal site all summer.

    For Kilties:

    Madison WI (DCI): turf

    Rockford, IL (DCI): grass

    Oregon, WI (MACBDA exh): grass

Sun Prairie, WI (MACBDA exh): grass

    Racine, WI (Raider halftime): grass

    Racine, WI (DCA): grass

    Kenosha, WI (DCA): turf

    St. Peter, MN (DCA): grass

    S. St. Paul, MN (DCA): grass

    Racine, WI (Raider halftime): grass

    Rochester, NY (DCA): turf

    grass: 8

    turf: 3

Safe travels! See you in Rachacha.

  11. The remarks in reference to the Kilts recent lack if competitive success were drawn merely to illustrate what in my opinion is a slight towards all of the 13 or so Class A corps ...

Slighting class A corps was certainly not my intention. It was more about giving props to the lower placing corps in open class. Looking back on my remarks, I guess I can see how they could be construed that way.

    Back to the group hugging.

  12. Our annual tour of Minnesota once again served to remind me of all that is good in our activity. Our performances at the two most famous “Saints” in Minnesota (Peter and Paul) highlighted a great weekend of hard work, sweat, and most of all, fellowship with our fellow competitors at the drum corps Mecca of the Midwest, Patrick’s bar, restaurant, and living drum corps museum.
