  1. It was a Corps Member was from the Blue Knights, finals night 2000, in Wisconsin. He got caught with pot supposedly bought from a member of BD, that's what we were told at the time. He was told he could not play but he ran out on the field, last minute before anyone could catch him. That was bad, everyone was afraid it could have screwed Blue Knights over because that is a huge No-No. He was not allowed on the field for retreat and he was sent home on his own dime, I think he flew. He was from Denver and it was a sad time for the Blue Knights family as the kid was very liked.

  2. Some time creative types and people persons aren't the best at bookkeeping and financial bottom lines. Many reasons why a corps slips places; rarely one person's fault.

    So glad to hear Jake Gall is returning to shepherd the battery; another alum, he has been the unsung hero of the drumline from Tom's days to Collin, now back to Tom. Good things to come.

    Still laughing at the viz report. My sponorees from last season had only praise for Craig But really, is listing his high school wrestling record and abilities at college rugby credential him sufficiently for handling Sully and/or Hopkins? :tounge2:

    Craig working side-by-side with Sully for 7 years speaks volumes, trust me. They started at B.K., moved on to The Colts. Sully asked for Craig to join him at the Cadets mid-summer this year since they do work so well together. I think he'll be good! :smile:

  3. Sully brought in Craig Sellers who worked under Sully at Colts. He's very strong and will probably be a cleaning guy along with Marc and maybe some of the older vet techs. I think Tom Aungst's return is important in that he relates well with people so more vet staff may consider returning. Hoping Jeff comes back for drill. Still waiting on brass team announcement and a big name for design.

    Craig also worked with Sully for years while at the Blue Knights.

  4. (Wow this thread is discouraging. This is my first DCP post but I feel it necessary to post.

    Background/knowledge: My kid was a rookie at cadets this year. That same kid didn't want to come home this year because they loved their experience with the cadets this summer.
    That same kid had marched other corps at which they had worse experiences.
    That same kid never thought they would be a cadet but now knows they don't want to go anywhere else.
    As a parent I also volunteered and toured over 20+ days doing various things for the corps. Also have volunteered at 2 other corps where I had children March. I saw and experienced many things with this corps and others.
    Note, there are positives and negatives with all the corps. But also note cadets may seem more expensive but there are no hidden costs. It covers everything. Other corps get you by tacking on other fees.

    In any event, I have much respect for the cadet organization, including but not limited to the staff (including hop), the administrative staff and especially the members.
    This summer was not easy by all means for any of them but hey if things were easy it wouldn't be the same experience now would it? Nor would our kids learn to overcome the challenges presented.
    Did they want to place higher, of course they did. Does that mean they failed? HELL NO. There were many good shows this year.
    Does it mean the staff sucked or needs replaced? HELL NO.
    Lastly, about the guard. Kristy is tough but the work these kids were doing appeared to be more complex and difficult than those guards who scored higher. What makes no sense to me is how when the show did finally stabilize that the achievement scores for the guard went down.
    It also makes no sense to me how the corps final score went down at finals when it was clearly the best run they had of the season.
    I watched top corps have collisions/falls/many drops in finals but their scores all went up.
    The judging system makes no sense to me but I know how the experience was.

    In summary, I don't know anything about changes to the staff or organization and clearly the judging system confused the hell out of me but I do know that no matter what happens there were many who actually did have a good experience and it's sad that most people only focus on the negative. This activity is clearly about perception and there are clearly politics involved but it seems to me that even if hop and team did exactly as everyone wished it wouldn't be good enough. They were doomed by many posts on dcp from the get go. I often wander how the negative affected their summer.

    I can only hope that many of these rumors are squashed and things get more positive so that we can move on and prepare for a fabulous 2017.)

    Thank you for your words. I also find this thread to be disheartening. My son joined the Cadet staff about 3-1/2 weeks before the season ended to clean the brass. I've seen the FB posts and personal messages he received from so many kids and it appears they really enjoyed their experience. Yes, the program went through many~many changes and it was a difficult fast paced show. People kept saying clean~clean~clean and they did, however, time was not on their side nor was the weather. Had they had a complete show earlier I believe the show would have been fantastic. It seems like the Cadets are suffering from fair-weather fans this year. So many on here have said they would buy the music, it was that good. My 2 cents worth.

    Sorry, I don't have the copy, quote thing down.

  5. I don't have Fan Network this season (many reasons for why) so my judgements on how corps did can only be made through the comments. If I had to rank the top three in terms of who fangirled the performances the most on here, they would be:

    1. Crown

    2. BD

    3. Bloo (apparently had a bad run)

    It's a bummer not being able to get it. I live in the mountains and it can't stream. I have a stream though. GO CADETS! :colgate: Against the odds from what I've read but strong in spirit.

  6. You can live where ever you want and be on design and instructional staff. I am pretty sure most of the staff right now doesn't live a commutable distance to Allentown.

    I believe most staff for many drum corps live all over the country. A lot fly in for the camps then stay with the corps through the summer. They do what the kids from out of state do.

  7. you ask the impossible. I don't think there is anyone who could explain (not going to use her name). Let's put it this way, she's one of a small group of people who broke RAMD. On the bright side, her actions lead to the creation of DCP, so there's that.

    Regards,

    John

    Oh, I remember her. Things would get uglier than ugly. It's funny looking at all these names. Most of us bailed from RAMD, went to Sound Machine and within months in '02 were on DCP.

  8. It appears you never read anything on RAMD. :ninja:

    I started on following corps on RAMD, went to Sound Machine and now DCP. I had many heated arguments on RAMD especially with BOY1230, the man could make my blood boil. As I said, RAMD was a long long time ago, thank goodness.

  9. On the recap posted so far (through Boston) Troopers were:

    1st (1st & 1st) in G.E. 1;

    3rd (3rd & 3rd) in G.E. 2;

    3rd in Visual Proficiency;

    3rd in Brass;

    4th in Visual Analysis;

    4th (4th & 4th) in Percussion;

    but they got clobbered in:

    Music Analysis -- 6th: 1.9 pts. behind Crossmen

    and

    Color Guard -- 7th: 0.4 pts. behind Crossmen

    Had the Crossmen not gotten the 1.40 penalty their score would have been 85.275. The real race was for 13th place between The Colts and The Troopers. Troopers taking it by .775. Visual Anaysis for the Colts was 3rd. They went back and forth with the rest of the scores.

  10. Yes, the constant talking does interfere with the show. In fact, it ruins it.

    wigwam, if the Colts show is ruined for you because of the talking I suggest you either get up and make a sandwich when the Colts perform or if you're actually at the performance (which I doubt) go get a hot dog. The "GE" is good, scores prove it! Most critiques given by attendees have been positive. See jwillis35's Reflections of the show last night! The show since San Antonio has changed and I believe, as many, it is a good show. If it's ruined for you, don't watch it, wigwam, it's as easy as that, no need to get your knickers in a knot.

  11. too much talking .

    Also ranked 15th brass line and 15th in percussion are not helping .

    I understand that the brass and percussion is holding them back but the judges do like the visual and I think that's pretty impressive. Too much talking does not interfere with the tremendous show visually they're preforming on the field.

  12. How about those Colts? They are rockin' it this summer. They're in 13th place right now with just 1.875 to get to the top 12. The visual is kicking it. BK is doing great however I think it should be noted that in Allentown there was only a .90 difference between them and the Colts in visual. That's pretty cool for the Colts.

    Go Red Team :thumbs-up: :thumbs-up: :thumbs-up:
