  1. I think if a corps asks to not record and post things from the camps their wishes should be respected. As far as The Colts needing more visibility I think their posts have been very informative. The fact that Sully and many other new staff members have joined The Colts this year confirms they are serious about moving up. I think we’re going to see some very good things from them and I wish them all the luck in the world this summer; they are very excited. It’s great they’re recognizing their 50th anniversary this year through their show and new uniforms.

After writing my thoughts I read perc2100's post and it is far more eloquent than mine, what he says, agreed! :worthy:

  2. I’m so excited to see the Colts this year. Craig is a good guy, although I may be bias; ‘Drum Corps’ runs through his veins. This was a well thought out move and a fantastic opportunity for both Craig and the Colts. I think any kid that has worked with Craig will have good things to say, his enthusiasm is contagious, his dedication is sincere and from the heart. I can’t wait for the season to begin. :cheer:/>

  3. The Academy is excited to welcome Jason Bentley to The Academy educational team in 2013. Jason joins us as Visual Caption Head and completes the educational team comprised of newly announced Mykail Costner - Guard Caption Head, and returning Ike Jackson - Percussion Caption Head and T. André Feagin - Brass Caption Head. Jason comes to The Academy with 13 years of previous drum corps instructional experience. His previous corps included the Blue Knights, Crossmen, East Coast Jazz, and Jersey Surf.

Jason Bentley -- ROCKS! Score on talent Academy.

  4. Blue Knight have announced their 2013 staff:

I don't know anything about most of the names, except the two Hall of Famers. I'll have to ask my son what he thinks.

In the mean time, any thoughts from y'all...particularly about the three new members?

Well, Rocky, I can't say a whole lot, except you may be seeing even more changes coming soon. We'll just have to see how this plays out.

Letting Sully go was a big one; I haven't seen too much speculation on here about where he's going. There’re going to be some shockers which are going to blow some people's minds, oh yes, just when everyone thought they knew who was going where and who was safe. Drum Corps are competitive; decisions can be made and then changed shocking DCI followers. :omg:

You have to ask yourself, who else may leave BK over some of these new decisions? Were there a few key staff members that may have had their toes stepped and decided to leave for greener pastures? When DCI competes there are corps paying attention to other staff members and many are approached along the way and asked to consider changing corps to join their corps the next summer to teach, they like their style. Many don’t act on it due to their corps’ loyalty but what happens when that changes? Did some more staffers walk out on BK within the last few days because of these decisions and call a few of those corps telling them they wanted to talk? "Stability" isn't a word I'd be throwing around right now!

Will there be backlash in BK’s decision making all the way around this past month? I guess it’s up to the Executive Director and Board Members who made these decisions to hope for the best. Good Luck!

  5. There has been a mention on BK's FB that Marc Sylvester won't be coming back next season. This was posted by a BK member who received an email from Director Mark Arnold. I haven't seen a formal announcement from BK.

Hi Rocky, Unfortunately it's true Sully will not be returning to BK this year. Mark Arnold chose to have a parting of the ways which is very sad for most of us. There is some speculation about who may be replacing him; I am keeping my fingers crossed but at this time I can't say anything. It's wait and see and deal with the fall out if it comes to that.

  6. You mention waffles when you want to kill a thread, or derail a thread for its stupidity.

 Ohhhh... Okay wow, color me red; I had no idea. When someone mentioned waffles after I talked to my son I just wanted to know if they were really that good! Geez, and I got all those negatives for being DCP illiterate.

Okay then the words that should go are:

Waffles--(help the next person who gets 10 negatives because they legitimately want to know if the waffles are good)

    Conspiracy

    Hate

"dancing with the stars" that was a bit of over the top!

"young adults" should be a choice; I prefer to call them kids, including my 31-year-old staff member son!

  7. Apparently I have missed something altogether. Before the word "waffles" gets banned please tell me what it means.

Seriously, in all fairness I made a comment asking if the 'waffles' in Allentown were really that good after my son told me he was going to get some for the kids because some of them had run out of money. Then someone posted about waffles on here. I got negatives all over the place. Either the waffles were horrible or I apparently missed the "true" meaning of waffles on DCP! :dontgetit:

  8. Thinking about the thread, "2013 Predictions"

    monty-python-my-brain-hurts-4001113.jpg

Mr. Boo, I can't believe you're still awake to even respond to this. Thank you so much for letting us see through your eyes what was happening on the field. It means a lot. This is one of the first finals I've had to miss and it was pretty hard not being there. I found that while watching quarters in the AMC Theater, clapping or giving an enthusiastic "YES" is frowned on. I almost popped having to sit there so quiet.

I would really like to meet you next year while in Indy, just to shake your hand and say thanks.

  9. Absolutely beautiful! I am crying and I know your pride. I'm proud of my kids and sometimes I think I talk about them too much on here, what can I say, they introduced me to this sport and for that I will always be grateful. :inlove:

Makes me wish I was a parent.

2000Cadet, you just wait when you become a parent it is a love you never thought possible, it knows no boundaries. Now you realize, of course, upon your child entering drum corps there will be a mandatory name change for you. Hum, 2000Cadet-Dad. Since you've been on this board and drum corps so long you could be 2000Cadet-Dad-whoop-bu##, that way no one will talk trash about any corps your child is in. I don't know you have time to think of a catchy new Dad name.

    Will you be my dad?

Mine could care less and this is amazing.

MotorCityMusician, I can’t be your Dad but I’d be proud be your Mom. :lle:

  10. Oh my, laughing too hard right now. I was trying to figure out this thread and my daughter said, "That's the girl you pointed out during the Olympic's with the attitude, she's been photo chopped in." I guess I obviously wasn't the only one who noticed the constant scowl.

Thank you so much for the laugh!

  11. Way to go, Blue Knights! That is class and not only helps the people of CO feel a little better but it shows solidarity accross the country as well, everyone was affected.

BK honored the Columbine Tragedy too. Craig was a senior in '99 and it took a toll him and for everyone in this community. I would like to add, this last shooting has caused a lot of PTSD in the kids (kids being the young adults today, they'll always be kids to me) and folk from Columbine. I'm glad Craig was on tour when it happened, although I could tell it still shook him up. It sent me back to a time I wish I could leave behind. Columbine still seems like yesterday for most of us. I don't think there's been a time since that I've heard multiple sirens that I don't still freeze. That's a sound you can never shake, but the sound of Craig's VW racing down the street; that was music to my ears.

  12. I think BK's show is absolutely terrific. Sitting up high in both Allentown & San Antonio (as well as seeing their field show in the rain at DATR), I think the show has tons of GE - and especially visually. The design of the show is stellar, there is a TON of demand, and the corps is achieving a great deal of that demand. This is all a matter of taste, of course, but while Glassmen are technically competent, their guard, percussion & GE all lag BK. Crossmen don't have the demand or content to get in front of them either, and visually there is plenty of dirt in Crossmen's show (Don't get me wrong, Crossmen have my 2nd favorite show on the field this summer). I think BK is safely in top 12, and could threaten as high as 9th or 10th if they have a stellar cleaning week.

    Harvey

I couldn't have said it better.

After reading all of this I just revisited Fan Network and watched all three of these shows back-to-back.

BK's show is definately difficult. BK gets flack for not playing, well they're not just standing there either. Take a look at them when they play, they're flat out running in many parts of the show. They're running and they use the WHOLE field. They form circles, make arches and form patterns and at times doing it backwards, blind marching, all at high speeds. It's innovative, they did something new but most importantly they had the guts to get it out there.

It definately isn't a straight line and stand still show. I would suggest watching them again because I don't see the other two corps being all that clean.

They'll be in finals, hands down.

  13. I quit posting on DCP, until now, because for whatever reason someone decided everything I said would get a negative. During the competition in Allentown my son called and was walking at a fast pace to get to the snack bar. He said some of the kids on the tour had run out of money and he was going to get some funnel cakes for them. Shortly thereafter someone on here mentioned the funnel cakes and I asked, "Are the funnel cakes really that good?" Bam, negatives. Really?

I've been doing these crazy boards since '99, I might add DCP is mild compared what RAMD was. I try to contribute things my son passes along that I think may add to a conversation or I may add something from my own experiences. I get passionate and have spoken out a few times but tend to be pretty passive. These boards get passionate this time of year. A lot of us are summer DCP users and as each year progresses more and more parents are joining to watch their kids progress.

I've learned so much from the main contributors on this Board and I appreciate the updates from the shows. As I was able, when no one else could get info from a show, try to get news from my son. Each time I posted, bam, two negatives. I didn't understand why but figured it was someone who just didn't like me for whatever reason but I kept posting in those situations. I guess I'm thin skinned, what can I say. The negatives usually were taken off, I guess by people that recognized my name. Thanks!

As far as calling the kids performing kids I am guilty. I'm sorry if that is considered a bad thing just the nature of who I am. I still call my son who is a staff member and 31-years-old a kid. I've known some of the staff members on BK since they were kids so I guess they'll always be kids to me. I will say this in my defense, if you were to ask any one of them or any of Craig's friends my real name, they wouldn't know it. I've always been "Craig's Mom" or just Mom and that makes me very happy. Most of you know who Sully is, he calls me Craig's Mom. After Drums a bunch of us went to a Pub and he came up for a hug, "Hi, Craig's Mom", I have to say THAT made me feel pretty special! :innocent:

  14. Sight unseen, I bet there is a 4th way. You can probably tell how much you loved the show from the blood you draw from your husband's arm, from squeezing it so hard when BD or BK is on.

    Just a guess.

Yes, very true. :thumbs-up: One way to know when my daughter tosses is when I suck in air and hold my breathe until she catches--also drawing blood from my husband's arm. I'm married to a wonderful man!
