My first tour ever to the Mid-West, 1972 - St. John's Girls from Brantford. Only one black girl in the whole corps (one of the greatest members and nicest person ever btw). A group of about 4 or 5 including this girl went to a restaurant in Fond-du-lac? Beaver Dam? (it's a long time ago so forgive me if I don't have the right city).
As the story was later told to the corps members, the group was advised by the owner that he 'would serve the rest of them but not her'. They told him that he wouldn't be serving any of them and got up and left. As a rookie, this demonstration of 'one for all and all for one' attitude made a huge positive impression on me.
