  5. Whoa. How did I miss so much of this thread?

Jimmy J. and Ray, honestly I am blown away by the amazingly kind words in this thread. Seriously, I am just floored. You are two of the people I admire so much in this activity, so to have you say such kind and positive things simply knocks me out. I am speechless...which as you both know is a pretty rare condition for me.

Mr. Jordan, you were the first DM I ever saw with the Bridgemen, and to me you still set the very high standard. It just seems so "right" to have you leading the yellow team onto the field, but I understand if you need a break - especially if it's a break to play in this very cool new hornline. I loved conducting this group, and would be honored to do it again. Perhpas you and I need to work out a drum major murderous scene, ala our young friends in Phantom this past year? Of course, we would have to do ours Jersey style. (Tony Soprano meets Spartacus? Hey, did I ever tell you I went to high school with James Gandolfini?) Details to be worked out, at some point during next season! I would love, love, love to work with you!

Ray, where do I start? 1984 was such a tough, tough year. But it was such a wonderfully collaborative group that season. We took turns propping each other up. I would have never made it through that season without the wonderful inline leadership of people like Jerome, John R., George, Frankie, Scott Taylor, Glenda, and so, so many others. Whether it was the quiet intensity of Fennette or the throw down craziness of some of our more "veteran" folks, we really pulled each other through such a tough scene. True story: I had no idea we finished 14th until I stood next to a kid from Troops at the first Star camp in 85 and the subject came up. I was so focused on making Finals, and when I failed to get us there, I simply assumed we had fallen into 13th place. I don't think anyone had the heart/guts to tell me otherwise, until this poor ######## brought it up in Bloomington. I remember grabbing Joey Keays to ask him if it was true, and he teared up immediately. Yikes! We were quite damaged, still, at that point in time!

But here we are! I am in absolute awe of what you, the Bridgemen v2.0 have been able to put together. You have filled a real void in the activity, and the fans are so, so appreciative! It really is a bit of a time machine, and I'm jealous as hell that I haven't been able to be a part of all of this fun. That's got to change! I'm going to work to get into the best shape possible and clear my calendar to the extent that I can so that I can jump onboard this magical ride and help in any way I can in 2010. If I'm the worst mellophone, so be it. (Come on, Ray. You're up to the challenge!) If I'm filling in parts in the pit, that's cool too. If I'm up on the podium while Mr. Jordan gets to re-live his hornline days, that would be amazing. If you need me to drive a bus, I can probably figure that out, too.

Please know how much love and respect is out here, just trying our best to beam our affection in your direction. Right now, my little boys need me, but even they are starting to ask when they "...can see Mommy do this drum corps thing for real, and not just on DVD's." I'm going to do my best to be ready to help next year. You guys have a wonderful Summer and just figure out where I can help next year.

    With much love and admiration,

    Karen

    Hey Karen,

You dont know me.....I aged out in 79 and was a tenor tech in 80 and 81 but that dont matter cause your my Bridgemen

sister and as from what Jimmy tells me about you, I would mos def like to meet you. Im #3 bass now and enjoying every second of this magical ride with the Bridgemen after twenty something years, and you too will experience it next season if things workout the way you and I hope they will :)....

I hope you might be able to stop by a rehearsal and say hello and than I can put a face to the name LOL

and I sure James and Ray would love to see you too without a doubt......

    Hope to see you soon

  13. Hey Bridgemen Family -- guard, drums & horns - - OMG!!!!

Being sidelined and not being able to play as much gave me the opportunity to listen & watch.

EVERYONE IS AMAZING. To my family in the hornline - - there are dreams and then there are ecstasy's............ Listening to you play Spanish Dreams - - was pure ecstasy.

    :blink::ph34r::blink:

To the drum line and guard............... I never get to be in front to see or hear what you do - - maybe I should have surgery more often............................ To all of you: :thumbup::worthy::shutup::worthy::unsure:

    I am so proud.

    Love you all.

    Blondie.

    Hey Blondie,

This thing we call the Bridgemen keeps rolling in March too......the 21st and 22 to be exact...and we'll also have a rehearsal on 4/18 to boot !!!!!

that comes in handy cause we had the snow problems in Jan. its all good !!!!!!! add the scheduled rehearsals for April and we should be right where we want to be :)...... SO

If there is anyone who wants to become or is thinking still of becoming a Bridgemen now is your chance....... all rehearsals are at St Andrews in good ole Bayonne and they start at 12 noon.....The past few rehearsals brought some new faces and they all look like they made a good choice....there is room in all areas of the corps, get there before they close the ranks !!!!!!

    See ya'll at rehearsal

  14. I have the clause to opt out of my contract! I might have a couple years left in me, if my knees hold out!!!

Oh wait... I only have to march on and off the field!

    Come on, Karen!

Join Ray, and come pay us a visit!!!

Well Jim, lucky for Karen, besides the march rehearsal, we now have 4/18 open for a full corp rehearsal !!!!!!!!

That would be a extra rehearsal for her to get her chops back dont ya think?

Personally Id rather have a rehearsal to get the corp to max performance level for the TOS anyway......

Hoping to see Karen and anyone else who wants to be a Bridgemen there......................

  15. I marched in the Bridgemen back in the day and I agree with one poster who said that the old Bridgemen and VK should stay in our memories. The only way I would ever agree to bring back the Bridgemen is that the corp is #1 a DCI corp, and #2 be as advanced as the corps are today ( with our own special twist ) !!!! and that would be the NEW Bridgemen striking out on their own, making their own history. Let me just say that if I had the money, I would talk to the present administration and instructors, and get the ball rolling and field a corp in DCI asap...... I look around in my area and there are no Jr corps around.... Drumcorps was and still is a big part of my life, probably kept me outta jail at some point growing up....Thats the way I would pay back so to say....by starting a quality Drumcorp like the Bridgemen...

The Alumni corp is doing just fine...every year we are getting bigger but better yet, all us old timers are getting ourchops back, and we are sounding as if we can compete !!! wont happen though lol. Thats where everybody can get a little old school flashback to what the Bridgemen once were...... We all enjoy doing DCI EAST In Allentown, the crowd at that show is amazing.....and they enjoy what we put on the field...just something different not better or worse .....and it keeps us coming back for more every year, just as the NEW BRIDGEMEN would feel.

    ok im done

  16. PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE,

Just wanted to let you all know that the Bridgemen Drumline will be doing a drum clinic at Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS on Sat Feb 7th along with ex Bridgemen and Broadway star Tommy Igoe ( he's doing his own thing lol)

Last year was a blast, and i expect this year will be no different......

For all those interested, on the fence, or want to listen.....Feb 7th and 8th are practice days...the hornline and color guard will be at St Andrews on the 7th from 12-5........

AND the full corp will be at the same place on SUN 8th !!!!!!

  17. I just happened to watch the '78 DVD last night. This is the song where y'all made the wedge/cone rotation off of the 50, right?

If I didn't look so good in plaid, I think I'd go Bananas.

The Kilties were always one of my favorite corps from back in the day.......I remember like it was yesterday the kindness the people from Racine showed the Bridgemen when we were up there for the Kilties show...... CHEERS TO YOU ALL !!!!!!

    Rick #3

  18. One tiny clarification - the original piece was also titled "Wind on the Water" the lyrics are beautiful, sad, and haunting. I was never aware of the "hymn" part, although when the corps sang it in rehearsal, there was a very, deeply spiritual feeling to it. One of Larry's best ever charts, and with Larry that's no mean feat.

I caught someone else's "Whale Shmale" post. I can see how one could feel that way, unless they played it that year. If you were out there, or lucky to be where I was, plastered to the wall at Mile High Stadium, you'd probably tear up every time you hear it, as I have for the past 31 years. (I had the vinyl of the original, and since then have bought the cd)

Ray I was on that field at mile high stadium that night and you are so right......its one of my favorites that the B-Men played, and im sure Jimmy will back me up on this one .......

The show for this season is by far the best the corp put out thus far......The hornline is coming on so strong...Id join this hornline if i wernt a drummer " did i just say that ?" anyway i would .....

Its been a dream for me to try to re-create as best as we can the magic that was the Bridgemen, and each year we inch closer and closer ......to show the new school just how good the old school was....each in our own way.Whats more is that the Bridgemen offer an excellent staff so that if a young person didnt make the corp of his/her choice they could join us,

get superior instruction, save money for next year, and have a blast doing drumcorps...and a resume always looks better when it has "Marched with the Bayonne Bridgemen" in it !!!!!!!!

No Tryouts or auditions....just bring your lips or your hands and a willingness to have fun and play some kicka-- music....thats it !!!!!! This show is going to rock in so many ways...I personally cant wait to get back to practice....

  19. Hello all you drumcorp nuts out there,

Happy New Year and a healthy to all out there !!!!!!

Im just posting this note to let you all know that the Bridgemen will be having a weekend rehearsal THIS WEEKEND Jan 10th and 11th

The corp has room in all sections and color guard, but the clock is ticking and soon the ranks will be locked for the up coming season, so if you thought about marching with us, NOW IS THE TIME !!!!!!!

The show is going to be the best the Bridgemen put out on the field thus far in our come back and this year the drumline will be doing a hope to die drum solo not a fill or a drum break a SOLO........!

The guard is promising to be the largest that we put on the field yet !!!!! and the guard work looks very nice indeed......

The hornline is doing just fine by my ears .....last rehearsal really impressed me.....man are they going to smoke this year....

Things are rolling along nicely in good ole Bayonne, but like I said, we want to get a few more people in the ranks....

St Andrews parish Hall 4th St and Broadway in Bayonne, NJ stop in and say hello !!!!!!
