  1. I heard it..my wife who is deaf in one ear heard it and many of us were agast. There are no hero's in any mello line.

I guess I would really be freaking out if I heard solo's like that during the show portion of the encore.

    C

I love how we're all attacking the Scouts for the encore on Saturday, yet we forget that the Cavaliers during full retreats were some of the biggest jerks, and most corps when there was the full America/O Canada would have people playing with terrible sounds and taking things up multiple octaves, and I am not talking small corps, I am talking about your beloved Blue Devils, Cavaliers, to name a few, but how dare anyone say anything about that.
  2. Well if you know the Scouts history, the corps almost folded after the 76 season too. Why? The Howard era had spent like drunken sailors. Maybe you can tell the men who marched in 1972 or in the mid 60's that there era was unacceptable. but I won't.

    Oh yeah

    Go Scouts!

Maybe I'm too competitive a person, but IMO being a non finalist for an organization as rich in tradition and as great as The Madison Scouts is simply unacceptable.
  3. Why so crabby Oldtimedrummer? Zero dollars was funneled to the Alumni Project. The Alumni Corps were all alumni due paying members. Plus over $13,000 was given to them at the Wednesday night show. This might mean chump change to you, but thats a lot of money to me. Well I guess that must be my 70's mentality.

    Oh yeah...

    Go Scouts!!!

How much money was funneled into the alumni project that could have been spent on the corps? Too many guys with a 70's mentality.
  4. Hey..that would be a great shirt.

    "We Put Music First" or

    "Putting Music First since 1938"

    "Its ABOUT THE Music(stupid) "

two things i really liked about this. one, the show is about music. not many corps still do that, too many of them use the brass as either incidental music to the visual package (a la cavaliers) or as a sort of ballet behind the narration (a la cadets). its refreshing to see shows that put music in first place.
  5. Sorry Vince but

    No.....!

but hey.. I am just a old man (not 50 yet) that's throwing a fit about people hiding behind there computer talking trash about things they know nothing about. I am entitled to have that...right?

    breathe in..........breathe out

    breathe in..........hold...........breathe out

    breathe in..........hold..........sip............sip.........little more...............keep holding................breathe out.

    There. Feel better?

  6. Ouch...I guess you we're not there?

I disagree. I find 70s drum corps to be boring. Obnoxious brass playing, messy druming...

It's like comparing a Man O' War to a Aircraft Carrier. Things evolve. They become, wait for it, better.

70s drum corps was disgusting. I respect it for the traditions that it started and what it meant to those involved, but I don't want to watch it in Classic Countdown, and I find the arrogance on here towards newer marchers near toxic choking levels.

  7. Groovy...but I get the St. Paul Paper....not the Red paper, the "Star and Sickle"

Wow, everyone. That was an unexpected response.

In case you missed it, I'm one of you. I've worked many times to get coverage for drum corps and marching bands in the Star Tribune that would have never run if I hadn't been at the paper to be their advocate. That includes a cover story on last year's Drum Beauty contest in Stillwater, MN, including a side story on a day in the life of the Madison Scouts on tour, and news articles about the Metrodome marching band championship (where I also volunteer).

The reality is that I write a weekly column called Technobabble. It's about tech issues. It usually covers things like video games, DVDs and the Internet, but writing about drum corps' tech issues is my way of getting coverage of the activity in the newspaper when other editors don't want "another cover story about Drum Beauty." That's what I'm dealing with.

So that makes you angry because I found a way to discuss a real issue in the drum corps community? You'd rather that we just run nothing in one of the 20 largest daily newspapers in the country? Unreal.

Thanks, Brent, for the props. And thanks to the few people who have sent me emails or plan to do so. I appreciate it.

  8. Well said Geno.

Through all the conversation here and there, Weedy (and ALL you 2008 Scouts)... just enjoy the experience of being there. You have walked into an organization that will never forget you, and that no one can ever take away from you.

Several corps have this type of legacy associated with them, and it's equally special to them. But only a few still have alumni from 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 years ago still showing up for an Alumni Reunion performance or to check things out at practice. You guys are carrying the torch now... and no matter what the hype is, being a Madison Scout in any year is something you will remember for the rest of your life as being one of the most important experiences of your life.

But as with any experience worth doing as you go along in life, you'll get out of it what only you put into it. So no matter where you wind up in the big scheme of things come August, do your best and it will be GREAT!! It's great to hear things are exciting and going well at camp!

  9. I just had mine on today. I plan on bringing it to Madison on Sunday.

    Goofy does as goofy sez

Mine fits I wear it all the time, received it in may 84,lots of good times with that jacket, with more to go. I did receive a new one for fathers day a few years ago, that one is getting its own identity now also. I wish more SCOUTS would be more proud to get them out. Its funny how many that dont. Its kinda GOOFY.
