  1. My experience at DCI Minnesota was absolutely great!! :worthy: The crowd was great, loved the venue, and enjoyed the performances. Here are my memorable performances:

Troopers - very impressed with them; very nice sound and good color guard.

Madison Scouts - their show will probably be my favorite this year. This corp keeps getting better and better. I think their color guard has made leaps and bounds.

Santa Clara Vanguard - love the Les Miserables show!! Performed it very well. Is it me or is their color guard underrated?

Carolina Crown - the show has it all. Great brass sound and color guard. I want them to win it all!!

I ended up making a vacation out of it anyway and will consider come back!!

  2. I was at the show last night. Like someone else on here, I wish they could move this show to a much bigger venue. I liked it when it was in Alton, because Public School Stadium seats a lot more people. However, Lebanon is a really good host.

As for the performances, it's nice to see Crown make a big jump. I have really enjoyed their show this year. The Blue Devils and Phantom Regiment are performing well, but their shows don't have that "WOW" factor to me. I also enjoyed Troopers and very impressed with them in Minneapolis.

  3. I don't think 1992 Cadets mentioned yet?

Opening slow change to bird shape!

    Airplane with propellers!

    Silent flag feature!

    Giant sound!

    Crazy fast!

That was a great opener and I would put that on my list. IMHO, 1992 Cavaliers (Gavorkna Fanfare) is the best! :worthy: I have it as an email notification. My other favorite openers are the following:

    1990 & 1991 Star of Indiana

    1993, 1997 & 2000 The Cadets

    1996, 2003 & 2011 Phantom Regiment

    2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 & 2012 Carolina Crown (has the best openers)

    1989, 1999 & 2000 Santa Clara Vanguard

2003, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Madison Scouts (they've had some of the best openers lately).

  4. I continue to be amazed that Crown is still within a point of the Blue Devils. After viewing the two shows back to back tonight, the difference in cleanliness is vast. The judges really must dig what Crown is doing this year.

I totally agree! If Crown takes advantage of some days off this coming week to clean the show, the margin between them and Blue Devils will get smaller.

  5. Wow!!!

Boston Crusaders over Cavies by .05 and 6th in colorguard!!

Madison Scouts are alone in 7th place and have distanced themselves from Boston Crusaders and Cavies; Good job Scouts!! Really digging the show this year and has grown on me!

Phantom Regiment jumped The Cadets? Not too surprised there but don't count out The Cadets.

Carolina Crown is getting better, but Blue Devils are clearly the corp to beat.

It ain't over 'til it's over!

  6. Just got back from the show tonight and enjoyed it as always. I was very impressed with Crossmen and I hope they make finals. Their color guard was really good and beat Cavies guard tonight. Keep up the good work!

Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown... :worthy: PR's guard was really good tonight and can see why they finished first.

I think Carolina Crown has what it takes to win it all. They just have to clean and fine tune their show.

Thanks to all the performing corps for a good night of drum corp. Best wishes and safe travels!

  7. I enjoyed the prelim performances from yesterday. The Cadets and Carolina Crown were my favorites. I think CC should have scored higher, and their color guard should not be in 6th place. I thought Phantom Regiment and Bluecoats did really well. Madison Scouts were LOUD! I was really impressed with Blue Knights (performed very well and great music) and Spirit of Atlanta (I think they have the 12th spot for finals). I thought it was very rude that people boo'ed the Blue Devils. They have a great show but I don't think it will be enough to beat The Cadets.

  8. Feel really bad about Blue Stars placing 11th, I love their show and it just saddens me. I can see why they're there though, they just have a lot of cleaning and very little time. If this show ends up in 11th it'll be the best 11th place show ever in my book.

I do too. I think they are a really good drum corp but they need to step up their game. Come to think, Blue Stars seem to plateau at around 8th or 9th place every year.

I was also shocked to see Bluecoats color guard in 10th.

  9. my review of the show is over on the review page......but i wanted to follow up with a few of Tony's comments (pretty spot on)

SCV - However just not the show that can break into the top-5. Smokin drum line (as well they should). The end builds and builds and builds to an amazing climax.

I agree, their ballad was good too.......Their drums were doing cool stuff all show......don't ask me to describe, just cool moves with sticks (eh, i'm a horn players)

Blue Stars - Loud, very loud and really good. Musically they are awesome, need to clean the visuals and the drill. Has upper bottom 6 potential...6-8 not out of reach. Smoking ending. AGREED

Crown - RACH'd THE HOUSE!!! They were smokin hot from pre-show to the time they left the field. The crowd ate it up. Lots of cheese? yes! but get me some Premium Saltines 'cause I am eating it up. Front to Back out standing. AGREED

Phantom Regiment - Beautiful...emotional...magnificent. Some intonation issues on the opening solo's and trumpet line issue in the middle 1/3 of the show (just before Elsa)...OH, ELSA...I nearly had tears in my eyes...by finals I my be in tears. May not be top 3, but will have the hearts of the crowd. Beautiful and elegant, very good music, I had welled up a couple of times, but i'm an alum!)

Cavaliers - It's like they try to hard to wow, kind of like an X games event. Those were the words I was searching for......I thought it was good, not great.

For my money, and my family, we liked Phantom, Crown, and Blue Stars the best.

I thought the venue was pretty good, a great atmosphere, people everywhere, corps on the quad.......so glad DCI was back in STL. PLEASE COME BACK!

You are pretty much spot on with your comments. It was a really good show and I also enjoyed Crown, Blue Stars, and Phantom Regiment. I think the Blue Stars have potential to move up; they're so good and they need to step up their game.

I also agree with someone saying the venue could have been larger. I wish next year's show could be in Alton or Lindenwood University in St. Charles.

  10.

And a  to the Bluecoats' guard as well!

Scratching my head over Crown's guard score... They're fielding one of the most musical, proficient guards this year. The spread between them and BD is surprising. Maybe they had an off night.

I thought Crown's guard did really well tonight and should have got higher than a 19. Bluecoats guard was awesome tonight.

  11. Well, BD's guard has peaked. The only direction they can go is down, unless they manage to maintain a perfect 20.

They're my favorite color guard in DCI!! OMGsh, they were sooo good!!!!:rolleyes: The BD have a weird show and I don't like their ending at all; however, they were scary clean. I was very impressed with the Cavaliers tonight. I also liked Phantom Regiment, Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown, and Madison Scouts.
