There's some Rolling Thunder in here, their parade tune (I think), and a couple of other things. I have to say, those guys at the beginning have some serious singing chops. Great arranging too.
This video just goes to show how great these guys (as well as any other ensemble that performs at TOC shows) are at performing, no matter what the task (drum corps show, small ensemble, singing quartet).
There is absolutely NO sound I like more than that of Crown's hornline. They're simply amazing.

OK since you brought this up.
Short story- I believe it was at Crown's March camp. Saturday night they were working through the Ballad with “The Poem”. The young man who currently speak the Poem was right next to Michael Klesch as they were working on his timing and phrasing with the music. BARRY HUDSON was also at the camp (old timers should recognize the name) and made his own version of the Poem. Imagine the big bulky, crew cut guy with his thick Boston accent having “Fun” saying things like “two lovers spooning on a park bench”. At one point he has adlib an entire version. He cracked everyone up and which point I turned to Kevin Smith and say for the 2013 Crown Tour DVD there needs to be an alternate “Barry” version of the poem. I wish I had recorded that!
I'd pay good money to see that!

Crown > SCV > Cadets > BD in terms of my enjoyment.
Crown > Cadets > SCV > BD in terms of how I think the judges should be rating their performances.
Same for me, except Crown = SCV in terms of enjoyment.

It's not at all surprising if this video is anything to go by. This may honestly be the worst DCI drumline video I've ever heard.
I'm not a drum guy, and even I can hear the dirt.
EDIT: Didn't realize this video was from June 22, but still... They need help.

When was the last time the Scouts broke 90?
I know 2010 they peaked around 89, have they been any closer since?
Will they do it this year?
I think the last time they broke 90 was in 2005 with their Carmen show (GREAT show IMO). And no, 2010 was the closest they've come to 90 since 2005.

Y'all need to be nicer. :sad:/>/>
I love a lot about Academy, and I find it hard to be overly critical, since I never ran a drum corps, I've never designed a show. That being said, I will say they have made a commitment to their theme, and they're sticking with it, no matter what. I think a major re-write is the only thing that can give them a chance at top 12, but I wouldn't have any idea what to suggest to them.
Great job by the kids, I think they are doing their best to "sell" the show, and that's all one can really ask.
Not knocking the performers in ANY way! They're performing what they're given to the best of their ability.
Now about that design team...

I'm going to be live blogging on another website. There is a 30% chance of thunderstorms in a few hours. Hopefully, we'll be hit by the 70% chance of no rain.
Hopefully! Isn't this the show where we had the tornado a few years back?

I have that issue figured out, I have HDMI on both the TV and PC, so I can set up with that connection, now I am wondering if Apple Airport Modem 4th gen will stream the video.
It certainly has the capability to. Wireless-N is more than enough, providing you have wireless-n capability on your computer. If not, you probably at least have wireless-g, which is still enough. With the more modern good quality routers, the internet provider and package you have is really the only limiting factor.
As long as you have good signal from the router on your computer and there aren't a million other devices connected to it all streaming video, you should be good.
I don't have that same router, but I streamed the Beta HQ feed from the TOC this past Thursday wirelessly with no problems, aside from the ones caused by it being beta.

You're needlessly worried about Cavies, they won't be top 5 this year, but they are set to peak at the right time and I'll stick with my prediction that they top Scouts by the end if not today. Crossmen will be nowhere near 10th.
I just don't see that happening. Heck, I don't see that happening from now on until they get a major design staff overhaul. Shows like this just don't draw great talent.

Shoulda posted this yesterday but it was a long drive. Drove 3 and a half hours for the Warrensburg show. Met up with my Aunt who I was going to the show with that night and she mentioned my cousin was in color guard in high school for 3 years and just graduated 2 years ago and last year she was in an automobile accident and was paralyzed from the waist down. I suggested we go by and pick her up and go watch one of the corps practice at the Blue Springs high school because they were open and there would be a wheelchair ramp. Well went and she was just blown away by Santa Clara Vanguard. There was a group sitting in the stands behind us but we got a front row seat. She said she hadn't felt this happy since before the accident. She was so moved by you guys!! We were driving to go eat and she was almost in tears. I don't know if anyone in the corps marching out there saw us but they sure made a difference in my cousins' mood. She was smiling from the moment they started playing until we dropped her off. I gave her my fan network password so she could watch the show live since me and my aunt would be there and i wouldn't need to use my account. She just loved you guys and I was so happy you guys made her day.
So awesome!

Difference between Crown's narration this summer and Cadet's NPR show...I haven't thrown up in my mouth yet this summer. That's usually a good indicator.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I don't see how you can compare the two.

LOL......We knew this would happen.......rationalization "squared". :rolleyes:/>/>
On DCP, it doesn't matter what the violation is.....it matters who does it. Too funny.
Cadets risked "live humans behind a mic"..........remember what happened? But they were guilty of not being Crown.
Having said that......I love what CC is doing with voice this year (with a minor exception of the final overly done narrative portion in the closer...IMO)...otherwise....title material!
It's the double standard that makes me laugh!
Cadets used narration throughout the whole show like Crown is using only in the ballad, and most people are saying that they like the narration in the show except for in the ballad. I don't see the double standard. If the Cadets narration had actually fit the show and didn't just feel like it was thrown in for the sake of having it, I'm sure people would have liked it too.

I agree that PR's hornline lacks the power they've had in recent years. I think a lot of this has to do with JD Shaw not being there anymore. But aside from Nimrod, I really do like the show. Yeah there's a few things that need to be changed here and there (body movements being one of them... yikes), but overall it's not as bad (to me) as most are saying.
-
I've had it every year since 2008. ~$70 is a small price to pay for all of the content you get. Plus it makes for great parties!
-
They look great! Keep it up!
-
Nimrod is so overused and boring. Just saying.

Paging Mr Saucedo and Mr Gaines !
THIS. People griped all the time about Saucedo's arrangements, but I think most of the problem was Clemmer's interpretation of them. We need them back!
-
I really think some of the sloppiness is a result of the way they have things mic'd. The balance is awful.
I was about to say this. Mic placement can make or break a recording.
-
It is awesome, except the sound balance sucks. They need to start working on getting things mic'd correctly now.
Amen to that.

Is there a chat room for tonight?

does anyone else notice the reflection on the high camera?
Yeah, I think it's behind glass.

Actually no, I haven't thought about it.
