  1. man, I hated this place DCI blew it big time - I'll try to read this thread and see if everything was covered before I go off

    BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I wonder how much goes into finding the venues and how far ahead in advance it is planned. It's not like when they picked the venue, they said "hrm... can you turn on the lights so we can see how it will look like?". Do they actually check for "buzzing"? Have some people sit in various parts of the stadium? Or maybe this was the first time in DCI history that this has happened? :P You would think people who watch football in the Rose Bowl complain as well about it? or do they play during the day and really do not use the lights? If they do, you probably hear the fans more than the lights.

I was happy it came locally and has enticed me to go to the local shows now :) Thanks for bringing it hear. It's an experience for everyone (whether it's positive or negative).

  2. I hope you are happy with your trip to "Mecca"!!!

Everyone wanted to go West, and enjoy the traffic of LA!

Buzzing of Lights, poor lighting, poor field conditions, sounds like Friday Night Football at TX's high school in Texas!!

I guess the ringing of the bell for the elevator in Foxboro a few years ago isn't too bad.

Plus Boston is a great place to visit! L. A. you have to wear body armor, or you will get shot with the "Krips and the Bloods" or maybe some of he Mexican Mafia, and MS-13!!!

Now onto the Midwest next year, and we can all help with the harvest!!!!!

    CODI

You don't have to wear body armor in all of LA. That's a stereotype. LA county is huge. As in any place, there are bad areas you avoid. Even in Columbus and Cincinnati (I spent 26 years in Ohio). I'm glad DCI got the Pasadena venue. There are things to be learned and hopefully these mistakes will not be repeated :)

The lighting was fine and the field on Friday was fine. The buzzing lights and seating space was not as good, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. If I had to stand, I would.

  3. My next cub scout project. :o

They did a thing on Mythbusters too if you can tivo the right episode :)

I saw one "Friends of DCI" person got a whole box of Mentos. I do like the fruit ones better but I guess if you want to keep your breath fresh, that's where this minty one comes in :)

I got in on the $5 cheese burgers (might be dry but was tasty :) ) and got the coke as well. Water was $3 a bottle and 20 oz coke was $4 :o

  4. Here we go...just back from the West Coast.

    Rose Bowl.

    Loved the history and tradition.

    Loved the setting and landscape.

No big parking issues until finals night. I have seen worse.

The lines getting into the stadium finals night were ridiculous! I have been to many finals since 79 and have not experienced anything like that. 88 or 89 KC may have had a hassle one night? Maybe open up another gate or 12 - SOONER? I was hot over that mess.

You can find rude stadium folks anywhere, (just like rude fans) but my problem was with folks who could not do their job. From concessions to ushers to security. How do they handle 90K for football?

Field was bad. Lines were bad.

    Lights were really loud.

Stadium is old and dirty. Did anyone else find their feet or shoes to be filthy after the shows?

The real concern was the exit situation. Had there been a fire or emergency...

LA was great. Really didn't mind the traffic.

LAX this morning was awful! The worst airport post DCI mess I have ever seen.

When do tickets go on sale for the dome debacle of 2008? We'll probably go there too. Can't help myself.

    Mike

The field was fine on Friday. I don't know about Saturday though. I heard on the next a couple of weeks back that LAX was ranked #5 now (was lower before) for flight departures out of LAX. I think I waited in line at 3PM or so and the line was already long. It did start to move fast and they finally put 4 lines to enter into the Rose Bowl.

Maybe I'll make it a habit and go to finals now? :D

  5. I thought the venue wasn't bad. The field I heard was greener for Friday (when I went last night). They had a line painter that came out once in a while which reminded me of Zamboni lol.

There was the buzzing of the lights but when the corps were playing, you could hear it. In the quiet parts of the music, you could but you basically filter it out after you notice "oh the buzzing"

The temperature seemed great for those corps I think. I played in Buffalo in '95 and that was good as well.

There were a couple helicopters flying through the day but what can you do about that?

The seating was cramped but I was able to deal with it. I didn't leave during the 10 minute breaks but left at the 22 minute break to drop my stuff off in the car. I probably should have stayed in my seat because i missed the Blue Knights.

    No bugs :D

    Parking was great.

I'll go if they have it at the Rose Bowl again.

  6. La Canada High School - 4463 Oak Grove Drive, - a couple of miles from the Rose Bowl. I'm leaving my hotel now to go watch Boston and the others warmup.

I ended going to the venue instead for good parking and then waiting in the long line to enter the stadium. I got there about 2PM so I went to check out the booths instead. Would have been nice to watch Crossmen warm up but I figure they were 2nd to play anyway so I didn't want to risk not seeing them.

Event was pretty good. The Cadets narration could have been without. I think liked Phantom's show the best.

  7. This will be first event that I've gone to since I've marched with the Crossmen in 1995 so I am looking forward to it since the venue is in Pasadena. Sounds like there were some good and bad aspects of the venue but as ChiBoyinLA put it in perspective, there are some great things about the venue as well. Crossmen did make finals in Barfolo and we really didn't do any "sightseeing" anyway. I hope DCI does come back to California for Finals.

I don't really have any experience at other finals venues.

I'll be checking it out tonight so we'll see :)

  8. Yeah, they've done this before..Not really a big deal..

Seems like it will be a challenge to find out where the corps will be warming up. Weird to warm up, then be bussed into the stadium for performance. Seems like it would take time to unload, warm up, and carry the gear to avoid putting underneath the bus. Get out of the bus and line up. I've never done this so I don't know :)

  9. A source from SCV said that all corps horn and drumlines are warming up off site and then being bussed into the Rose Bowl for the performance. Please tell me that this is not true. Please someone confirm this. In other words, they are warming at a near by venue (HS or College). With the exception of color guard.

I hope not :( I planned on going to the Semifinals earlier to watch corps warming up as well. If that's true, I'll have to go out to Norco High School tomorow to watch the Crossmen rehearse (which would be quite a trek to Pasadena).

  10. I still have 2 Super premium Quarterfinals seats. Since no one wants them and I don't want to drive to Pasadena, I guess Section 19 Row 45, Seats 111 and 112 are available :P

If i do bring a video camera and Digital SLR camera (with regular lens), I assume I'd have to bring them back to the car prior to entering the event?

This is the first Semifinals I've been to since 1995 :P

  12. This thread took me several weeks to read. I had to read little by little and now I finally get to reply (love the Bones pics :D)

This is my first post but I've been supporting the Crossmen for 3-4 years with donations and buying any Crossmen CD/clothes that interest me. I finally became a CAA member this past year as well B)

I marched the Crossmen in 1995 when they did Classical music. Although when I originally tried out for the Crossmen, I was expecting to play jazz. I was very glad I was able to march and age out that year with the Crossmen. I enjoyed the music we were playing and didn't care if it was classical anymore. It was not only the music with the Crossmen but the whole Corps Culture that was was able to embrace. The Crossmen was one of the most enjoyable experiences that I will never forget. I was not from Pennsylvania but from Ohio. I went to Miami University and flew myself out there to all the camps. I then made some money by working at Hershey Park about a month before the move in. I remember there were a lot of those in the drumline (at least 4 people) were from Texas.

Now that I live in Southern California, It's hard to see the Crossmen unless they are on ESPN2 or if I flew back out there (never flew back to the East Coast)

2007's championships will be in Pasadena so I will be looking forward to cheering them on and possibly meeting up with any alumni. I will continue to make any contributions and maybe perhaps volunteer in the local Southern California area finals week if there is opportunity.

One thing I was wondering, perhaps it is good for the Crossmen to be in San Antonio so that the travel expenses will be more efficient when the tour starts next year since finals are going to be in Pasadena. (Then again, maybe not as I am not sure what costs are involved)

As for the cost for each Crossmen member for travel expenses, that's going to be something that non locals to San Antonio will have to consider. But hopefully everyone will able to offer assistance in some way or another.

Good luck to the Crossmen in 2007! I'll continue to support you! :)
