  1. This activity is about taking pride in your OWN corps and improving it year-after-year. Crossmen's turnover rate is bad because there are too many people who think like you.

Thats an unfair statement. Its not an individuals responsibility to come back for the sake of their corps, if they want to be there they will, if they dont, its their choice. Paying out two grand for tuition (then not to mention travel costs which are horrendous) I will march where I want to.

Its a personal decision, not one that should be forced on by vets of the corps past. I was given the opporunity to march with Crossmen when Cascades folded and its one of the best things that could have happened to me drum corps wise. If I had the option I would have marched with Crossmen every year, but that would be my decision.

You also have to see the perspective of knowledge. If you have the opportunity to march for different corps and get instruction from many of the top instructors in the country its only going to make you a better more rounded musician, which i think learning how to play your instrument better is also something this activity is about.

Its all personal opinion, not something anybody should have a say in except the person making the choice.

    That being said, GO BONES!

  2. Second year streak! Hope they can keep this up, would love to see them back in semi.

I agree with the semi finals hope, it was tough in 07' getting beat by PC in quarters to take 17th.

but then of course it was harder the next year when Madison beat us (crossmen) in quarters to get 12th.....

what a frustrating dci career I had lol

I would love to see Scades in semis. It's been too long and the corps has been through a lot the last several years

  3. If we are calling them the Seattle Cascades,

Technically they did drop "Seattle". (though the website is still seattlecascades.org lol) the corps has changed locations so many times the last several years, Vancouver, Yakima, Woodinville...they might as well just say they are from Washington State. Nobody would care IMO.

It's just odd that corps wouldnt want to "go all the way to seattle". Im just thinking about the size of the city + free day potential! seems silly.

  4. I know this may seem like a deep response (and definitely off topic) but you mention you are a band director! My daughter struggled through middle school and was a lost soul! She was not enrolled in band entering high school when the Bellingham (WA) High School band director found out she played french horn and encouraged her to join band. This man challenged my daughter and didn't let her just get by. He convinced her to tryout for wind ensemble, jazz band and to take a chance and audition for the Cascades. In my opinion he saved my daughter and the young woman that emerged was the person I envisioned her to be and more. So thank you and all the other educators who mentor our children. You do make a difference!!

Allison Wilhonen (Cascades mom 2010  )

Are you planning to go to Championships this year?

  5. I am a brand new Corps mom this year! My daughter plays mellophone for the Cascades and since joining I have seen a more confident person emerge and she loves it! I wish I could have seen them perform last night (and the night before) but thanks to all the people who are posting information on the performances. She told me how impressive the Troopers and Blue Knights are. Here is hoping the Cascades continue to improve, I know they are all having a great time!

The cascades definitely have come a long way from last year. Their show is much stronger and as alum of the corps I was proud to see the product they have-I know that this is a show they can compete and grow with.

  6. BK is really something this year. Still work to do on the closer, but when the potential is unlocked, it'll rock.

Watched them rehearse today, and they have a wonderfully mature brass sound. LOVE it.

Yeah the sound was great, and was very apparent at the top of the show that they meant business. im pretty sure i said "Wow.." which doesnt happen often.

also the percussion "break" towards the beginning was meh...but the actual feature towards the end was very good for the most part.

It's still too early in the season to look to much into scores. We'll know more after Denver

  7. If you haven't heard BK live....man!! They're awesome this year! Huge reaction at Stanford!

    !

So after seeing BK last night- I definitely like the show more this year than last years. Im glad to see they haven't put the huge emphasis on body movement early on (I'm sure it will get added throughout the season) but right now it feels like they are focused on getting a storng, clean show built first. definitely has legs!

  8. Why do you think this is the case?

Could be because this show seems to get smaller every year. Not as many "Big Name" corps are coming (I guess we call them G7 corps now? pfff) We used to see corps like BD and SCV, then we got just SCV...now the top group there is BK.

The crowd has also gotten smaller-I remember marching in the show in 2006 and the stands were packed full...last night it was closer to 60-75%

Still a good show though, I just hope we can bring in bigger corps.

(Hey wasnt it nice when we had championships on the west coast in 07' and ALL the corps had to end up out here?)
