I don't understand what everyone's problem is??? I say, in my opinion, that the slow walk isn't slow enough.

I'm sure there are smartphones in Iowa...but probably not any cell phone service.

Will Blue Devils break 100?

Mehhhh...I wouldn't hit any panic buttons about placements and scores till maybe San Antonio. They still have oceans of time to clean, and rewrite. If memory serves, Bluecoats in 2007 beat both The Cavaliers, and Blue Devils at the same show early season, and they finished the season in 7th, below Carolina Crown's best finish (at the time) of 6th.
Just another person saying, that anything can happen.

Maybe Jeffery's little brother can come over and try to open the present in the pre show?
I thought "Little Jeffery" was a Blue Devils age-out.

Sounds like some harsh judges tonight. Cavies down a point, Troop down 1.5. Colts only improve by .1? Hmm...

Madison '08 most underrated show on this by far. That music and hornline is the best 12th place corps ive ever heard ever. That hornline was way better than there overall placement.
I disagree. (I'm allowed to, right?) That hornline was weak when they started moving. I only heard noise when they had impact moments, instead of actual chords. (Really trying not to bash, but they really didn't sound that great that season.) Feet timing was not very good either.
I really think Crossmen deserved the 12th spot that season.
Yeah, Spirit 2003 was good too. However, my opinion is a little biased for 2009. Have to vote for the "home team," on this one.

Wow! That is quite a difference in scoring between shows. Now, I wonder if this show is the more accurate one, or if it's the other three that's more accurate???
I can't wait till they all meet up!!!!! BATTLE ROYALE!!!
-
2004 Crossmen. I enjoy that show cause of just how fun it was to watch. The lead trumpets also played really well Finals night.
-
I want to know if the upside down Trumpet players will last once the brass judges get on the field. If they aren't perfect, they will get destroyed Brass wise...and that'll make a certain Caption Head really angry too!

Overlooked corps shows of 2011:
Any drum corps not in the current top 12...seriously...do see how many people come into a drum corps show AFTER Colts, Troopers, and even Glassmen play? It really makes me sad.
Overlooked corps shows of 2011 in the current top 12:
Blue Devils (yes, seriously)
Bluecoats
Santa Clara Vanguard
I would mention Boston Crusaders, but I haven't seen them yet.
The drum corps that should be getting the most publicity right now should be Spirit and Madison. Spirit because they are looking, sounding, and scoring like the corps we all knew and loved. Madison, because they are coming out strong and powerful (I still cringe when I see their bad feet timing) and are sounding like the Madison Scouts from the past. Not the wimpy look they had from 06 to 2010.

Since this forum topic wasn't specific I'll post this:
One of the biggest wow moments for me was when Phantom Regiment beat Blue Devils at Finals in 2008, especially after being 3rd in Quarterfinals.

On the uniform: The uniform is a huge improvement from the previous season. After seeing, and then eventually wearing the 2010 uniform (and then putting that silly buckle thing on for the first half of the season) I really didn't understand the "hype" in the uniform. Up close, it looked cool, but from far away (which is what realy matters) it looked like a dark mess.
The 2011 uniform is an improvement, and the golf helps the eyes from up top. Traditional from their previous 09' and beyond uniforms? No, but like someone said in a previous post said, the uniform shouldn't be what defines tradition. However, most people can only connect with different corps through their uniforms, because they refuse or are oblivious to find out what ideals and values the corps holds inside. That, is sad to me. But, I'll let you know that the Troopers have the best traditional values than any corps DCI! Anyway, I like the uniform, and I wish I could wear it.
On the 2011 show: I really really enjoy the show, and so do the members, which I believe if the members can connect with the show, then the audience can just as easily connect with both the show, and the performing members.
The 1st half of the show needs to be beefed up a bit I think to work. I find the crowd is a little bored with this part of the performance. I think that the 1st big loud hit is right in the first 30 seconds of the show, and the next hit after that is maybe 2 and a half minutes. That is a REALLY long time. I feel like that hurts their GE score, and the design part of their scores.
2nd half of the show (Ballad and beyond) is great, and I think it's the part of the show the people really enjoy! The 2011 Troopers play very well. They are definitely one of the most musical groups in DCI this season. (I will compare them to the top corps if you dare me.) I think they just need to sound more powerful...not loud, but powerful, so that their presence is better known to the crowd. Also, they've been hit hard in the Visual scores (The Muncie show, and the show after they were NAILED in Vis. scores. Teal Sound beat them in that catagory) It's not that there "sets" are hitting, it's the counts between them that hurts their score. However, once the other captions (Feet scores, and Color guard) get thrown into the mix, it should boost their score more, rather than hurt them.
The Ultimate Question: Will they make Finals???
As of the June 28th scores, Spirit is hitting the scores higher than normal and seems to be in the 12th place spot. Troop are gaining on the Glass-people but they haven't overtook them head-to-head yet. It's hard to tell right now. They'll have to rock out on the regionals, and the shows where the corps around them in the standings are there. But the chances are better than last season.

-
I know!!! I know!!!!!
The Phantom of the Opera!!!!
There could be a disappearing phantom, all the corps members could wear masks,
someone like Santa Clara Vanguard could definately play it well!!!!
Oh,....wait.........................................................
never mind.............

It just makes me thank God that fans are not responsible for assigning scores and it's a very good thing that we have judges. We all know how subjective those scores would be.
If fans did assign scores...oh god...the world would be a very scary place.
mommy!!!.............

Personally, I've seen their show twice and I think the narration works. Granted they look a little dirty (who doesn't though?) and there are sections that need some help. This narrated show works very well and I was actually impressed with it.
During the Fairfield show, (The better show I saw) there were times the narrators were off counts, or did not speak clearly, that should all get ironed out.
However, there were times that narrators were speaking when the corps was playing forte/double forte. I believe that is not right at all because it distracts from sound and narration.
But for non-Cadet believers, look at the scores right now. there is about a 3 point spread (as of June 22nd) from 1st to 7th. That's a VERY small spread. Also, there has been 4 different corps in 1st place, in about one week alone! That is amazing considering it took almost a month for 4 different corps to be placed in 1st last year! (Blue Devils, Cavaliers, Cadets, Phantom. Don't quote me on that though) This will be one of the most amazing seasons ever in DCI!!!
However, I'm a little confused at one thing. The Cadets usually show case their Percussion. Um...correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any special percussion section. Has it been added since Fairfield?

I suppose I should not mention what happened to Capital Regiment this past summer in
06'. I know for a fact that that (heh) was 110+ degree weather in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Supposedly, I heard it got pretty hot in the stadium during the show, actual audience
members passed out and had to be escorted out.
Rumor is (pure rumor) that it got 131 inside the stadium. I think it could have been that hot
because of the terf field. It's almost like carpet and it does not help with the heat.
But, what do I know...???

Technically...I don't think "breathe dAAh" ever left Troopers. Pretty sure that was the concept even in 2008.
