  1. This thread has made me not want march either.

Here is what I see, DCA has younger members these days as we know. Those members are there because?

    1) They are new To Drum Corps and Its a great place to learn

    2) They did not make their first try at DCI so they march DCA to get better to make the DCI cut.

    3) They Marched DCI and could not afford to continue due to Schooling or money or both.

    4) They like to march but don't want to be away that long during the summer

    5) They Came and found out that the Old Guy drinking a beer field is a thing of the past. (do the adults still par take yes but not like back in the day not during rehearsal laws and other things have changed that)

    6) They had fun and are staying or coming back after aging out of DCI. (refering to posts by members from empire,Bucs Bush and Cabs etc as proof. Also I am not saying the did not have fun with the DCI corps)

    7) Even though it might be as demanding as DCI it still gives them the rush one feels when they are performing and they have a found a place to continue to do it for as long as they want.

So Kyle I think yes the view has changed some because if it had not we would not see the young members as we do today. Which the end result would be less DCA corps. I believe if parent came and saw Line 5 they would not let their kids stay.

As for the other stuff. DCI vs DCA

I see it as DCA helps DCI and DCI Helps DCA, in a round about way they help each other.

Gm made the Camero & Firebird Which one was really better will differ between who owned which car. They both were basically the same cars with some differences.

Can't we all just get along.

  2. Okay Harry, back off. Don has probably forgotten more about Drum Corps then you'll ever know. He's won more contests in one season then you've won in you entire life. He and I are friends and have been for quite some time. He certainly backs the Skyliners more then you do based on your comments here. You want to take somebody on? Come to me. I know more about the Skyliners then most people here. And I'm the only one who had the guts to stand up for their traditions 10 years ago and I don't regret it for one nano-second. Now back off.

Love it .. The "He's won more than you in blah blah" and " Back OFF" Card have been thrown out. (ohhh shiver shiver) That matters how? Again really who cares.

just wondering when the "I am rubber your glue" will be used? (oh wait I just did it)

So can we just forget about the sky thing, because I think we got all the info we need from the two all knowing historians.

So back to the other corps that are coming out this year and how they are doing.

P.S. which one is Batman & which one is Robin? Actually I think both should get The Big S for their Chests (dunt dunt daaah) Thanks for the evening smile.

  3. Ok first I hate that any corps has left the activity and glad some are making it back.

But all this bickering about sky is not helping and to be honest its not hurting either I don't think anyone cares what happened in 1992. If it were last year maybe just maybe.

that's my good buddy mike. and don't you mess with him. very elegant mike. i love your style !:smile:
Had a back and forth with the grunt off line. Ended very amicably. He'll do fine. And thanks for the kind words Don. :worthy:

But I must say that I find some of this very entertaining. Mike is happy he told someone off with his great accomplishents of not having to read music and so called telling them off on the internet and another backing him up on the internet gotta love it. thanks for the entertainment sorta reminds me of Catherine from the ramd days .. just wanna see what will be written next.

Good luck to everyone on the field and wish those taking time off to a speedy return.

  4. Hey Philadelphia area Drum Corps Veterans! Sounds of Philadelphia, still has spots in our brass, percussion, and color guard sections.

We are the ONLY all age competitive corps in the state of Pennsylvania that are COMMITED to a balance of family, work, and competitive drum corps. Our accommodating season schedule allows for our members who have a family, go to school, have a job, the ability to play competitive in drum corps. Also, our annual dues are among the lowest in the area.

    March Camps

March 13 Narberth, PA VFW 9am

March 20 Narberth, PA VFW 9am-7pm -7pm (Snow Makeup Day)

March 27 Narberth, PA VFW 9am

Kind of a bold statement no? unless the Bucs moved or they are all jobless single not going to school loaners.

  5. If a person who is cut from Jr. corps is truly interested in marching in an all age corps, I'm sure he or she is capable of scrolling a quarter of the way down the page to the all-age forums.

It has been a policy of DCP for a long time now, and will continue to be so.

Josh's idea is actually not a bad one.

Well there you go I guess we could put The End up now. Can someone Slam the Gavel.

  6. I would believe it was removed for the same reason DCA alumni corps were shunned back in the day. You make an offer good enough, you start competing for membership. I don't think its right to remove it, but it seems logical.

Can't we all just get along. "All we are saying is give Peace A Chance"

I don't see why something like this can't be posted on both sides. DCI should be able to post about their openings on here just as DCA should be able to there. Really what is the harm.

How many kids do you think will leave a DCI corps they have been wanting to march to march DCA. If they did I think it would probably be because of finacial reasons which in the long run would be better for that person.

Now on the flip some might leave to do DCI. Doesn't that happen already and most DCA corps say come march with us to get the experience to do DCI. So where is the problem with a kid leaving to do that.

I can see if this was a specific thing for either side but this crosses both. If we can't get along in this Shallow end of the pool what makes you think we can in the Deep end

  7. Ok,

Just to be sure I hope nobody was taking what I said as a bash on the kids. I am Glad that they (Alliance ) are here and STRIVING TO BE THE BEST like the rest is what I did say. So I hope that is understood. I was making notice that there are other corps Jazz running and moving at Fast Tempos. Which everyone will see this weekend. Also that most of the corps have plenty of younger members. To the fact that I think they are out numbering the "older" members now. Again I am sure everyone will see that this weekend. As a matter of fact the one video on you tube of Alliance I thought was pretty cool with the Robotic Terminator type visual they had. Hope that clears that up.. :)

(Insert Jeff's I love the Tuesday Before Finals here).

  8. i agree with the last statement. Alliance is really different compare with the other dca shows. isnt the dca shows that we are use to see. they jazz run, play a lot, fast tempo. What i lead is that their idea is to bring something different to dca and get young people to start knowing about it too. Im not sure about this but i heard their average age in the corps is 19-20? that is CRAZY! and they have to use their advantage that are young people and a lot of energy. For u Ron i think they might be able to get in a higher position. You have to think that they havent compete against northern corps, they been getting closer to CV every competition and their show have a lot more to improve from CV from my opinion and i bet they clean a lot this past weeks. Alliance is a group that i think have the possibility of shocking many people in the next 2-3 years and who knows maybe start to show how DCA south is growing.

Ok I had to read this like ten times. (hooked on phonics might help ) With that said I think you need to look around. I think most of what you said DCA is not doing they are actually doing. I see Jazz Running I see fast tempos and well looking at Hercs,Cabs,Empire ,Bucs. Ok most everyone they all have alot of younger members with Older mixed in now. I believe all the corps are attracting younger members. Now I am not taking anything away from Alliance just noting some things you mention are being done already. But its good to have another corps doing it and striving to be the best. I wish them the best at DCA'S.. Glad they are part of it..

  9. Was at the Music In Motion Show at Giants Stadium on August 2. Could not believe how unprepared the announcer was. He was always late in asking Drum Majors whether their Corps was ready or the Drum Major just gave up and started the program and then the announcer asked him or her whether their corps was ready after they started. He had no energy. I'vd been to many DCI shows and have never heard an announcer who sounded so unprepared. Who hires them? He made other mistakes but I just mentioned the glaring ones. He was always behind what was happening on the field. Even when the Holy Name Alumni Corps and the current Corps ended their program there was no announcement stating the end of their program, so they just marched off. Hopefully the announcer at this event was substituting for the announcer who was originally booked to do the event.

My question: Any feedback on who hires them and holds them accountable for the job they do.

Well By now I think you know that what you took as late annoucing was actually several of the corps doing their on Field "pre show " warm up.

I can tell you Fran did what was asked of him and when he was cued he did just that. As far as other little things you might have noticed. I wonder if you have ever announced any event before. I have and boy its no walk in the park.

The good thing is now you are well informed so tomorrow night when you go and hear Brandt Crocker do it you will not have to post two threads about his so called mess up.

The other thing you will be happy with is that all the Drum Majors will be in attendance finals night since they have no place to go...

  10. MrFun,

Actually, the Allentown area has an incredible amount of practice sites, more than DCI would ever need. During the 80's this Allentown DCI event hosted 58 corps, more than the current 21-22. Besides, the recent DCI event here included local housing for just 8-10 corps. But, thanks for your input!

Very True. I remember How DCI East Use to be. Prelims starting early friday morning etc. But since then School systems have changed and not as many are willing to house corps & have their facilities used. But yeah it would be great if this could happen. Just don't see it becoming a reality. Glad I could share some input.

  11. Does it really mattter? Is the Hurcs guard going to put them over the top against Reading? Bucs could have spotted the Hurcs the entire guard caption and still won last night. Hell...after their OTL, Bucs could have performed the rest of their show to a drum tap....and STILL won last night!

Hee hee maybe they should try this one day.

  12. How 'bout a neat and tidy, 5 corps DCA show at J. Birney Crum, at noon, on the Saturday of DCI?

With the new field turf, no damage problems. DCA event rain or shine. The DCA event would be pretty much out of there by 2:30pm. Plenty of potential new customers for DCA already in place, plenty of additional DCI ticket buyers (DCA fans and participants in town). Despite what many think, DCI and DCA already work together nicely. A DCA component in Allentown that same weekend could help the bottom line of BOTH organizations.

    Worth a look!

Sorta like what the grand Prix and Hershey use to be.

Doubt it would happen since East is alot of work For DCI. Alot of the DCI corps practice at their housing site before going to the show. So where would DCA corps Practice before hand etc.. Don't get me wrong I like the idea.. But the other dci shows you say they get along well at are smallers dci shows and the Georgia show its only what 2 dca corps .. Not five.

Also from some of the comments over on the DCI page about bridgemen alumni. I see alot of kids today 1 Don care about yester year. (meaning the 70's,80's or 90's you know the years that got them where they are now shoot even dci doesn't I mean the theatre count down goes back how far ) 2. are really misinformed about the competing Corps of DCA. But thats another thread.

sound soo good and so simple to us. but it not a reality. Remember there is no drum corps after you age out... ugh!

  13. Sure would be nice to actually hear the CORPS and not U2...

Youtube clip removed - please see our policy on this posted in each forum! -MikeN

Ah sorry. Hey you can find it on that place that has videos and such of different things Just search the name and you will find a few things. hope that is ok. Baa haa even though the name of that place is mentioned above but I didn't say it. ..

  14. The Cadets feeder corps was named the Plebes. Fitting when you consider the West Point uniform and military reference in the name. I do not know when they stopped fielding that group. Ask on the historical forum.

Yes I was giong to say the same thing about the Plebes. Basically back in the Day (gets walker) Every top corps had a Feeder Corps Bridgemen had the Cadets Madison Scouts Etc. Those were the days when american Legions had money and needed to use it since most were non Profit. So they used it in the Community helping the "troubled Kids". In some states like NJ thanks to the change in some of the laws things changed and well Less Drum Corps. There was a time when almost every town had their own Drum Corps. Click the link below to see.

List of Drum Corps Over the years.

  15. Unlike BD ans SCV, The Cadets have Jersey Surf and Raiders closeby, as well as a lot of DCA corps. YEA also runs USSBA, which is the dominant marching band circuit in New Jersey. They don't need a feeder corps because they already have all of these things to generate new members!

Buccaneers. With Gino there come on it has to help and if you don't think so you have to be kidding yourself.

  16. That was dumb! The other captions tonight had more weight....which made the spread bigger. So .1 would have helped the Cadets!

I hope Crown Keeps Winning because my fun is coming on here to see what is going to spew out of Benchmarks mouth. Relax man we all get that you do not like Crowns show and Well Love the Cadets. It happens man. Last night and tonight Crown was better. No need to be a sore loser fan especially this early.

As of right NOW this moment in time, those that Judged the show say Crown is doing it better.

Now wont it be scary If when they do have the other Judges Crown opens up a bigger spread yikes then what. (keep the sharp objects from you huh)

Now just waiting to see if this continues , what happens when BD and SCV are added into the picture.

I am a BD fan but if they beat them so be it .. Its a long way till finals but even at that it would be cool to see Someone like Crown win. Even though some don't like their show they are doing something right..

Hey How many times have people not like Cadets show (like you know the door)

Good luck Crown Keep on keeping on.

Shout out to my Boys and Girls at Cadets Crown and Surf ..

  17. just want to set something straight, as long as you still have those members acting classless, it diminishes my entire view of the corps. Those classless acts were commited by members representing BD. I am happy to hear things are changing, and I know you guys worked you ##### off. Unfortunately classless acts outweigh positives at the end of the game. If I were a part of your corps, if I knew those people I would be very upset and would have gotten on them. Even if it was one person. One thing i love about rum corps is class. BD is always up there on that list, but what happened after this summer changed my opinion slightly.

I understand how heartbroken you were, believe me, I was competing in a lower corps and our hearts were broken, not on the same level, btu i still understand.

Another thing, by far, BD was still more classy than other corps that night.

But congrats on a lot of good hard work, and still a great season! Second is not so horrible. I know every corps would love to be in your position every year, and you guys do the work to deserve it.

Well If things that happened this summer changed your mind slightly .. Alot of people need to hang with the other corps..

I have heard seen alot of the same things talked about here with all the other corps. Cadets Cavies .. I have seen been with Cadets who part took in the wacky weed . Been there when I have heard members say stuff about other corps. soo if you want to point at one point at all because no Corps out there is goodie two shoes..

    Thats all I am saying.
