  1. I thoroughly enjoyed their performance in San Antonio but did not like the danceUtard uniforms. I had no idea they had done that until they came on the field that day. I am of the thought that their traditional green uniforms are some of the sharpest in DCI. Does anyone know if they plan to keep up the WGI-ish costumes or if they might go back to their traditional classy look?

Neither, they will have a new uniform next year. I saw some concept art for some very cool uniforms that they wanted to do this year, but these winter-drumline-esque uniforms were much less expensive.

  2. OC rocks! holy ****!

The uni tops did scare me, I couldn't figure out how they were so white after so much tour.

They're effective from the box (no one had anything to say after San Antonio when there was only high cam) but they do look a little odd up close.

  3. You are exactly right, I am not going to name her corps. I am just trying to get a feel for what is normal coaching behavior in DCI and what is not. Having never had the opportunity to march, I have no insight to give to my daughter.

Without naming names, I think you could give us an idea of what's going on.

  4. Hello Everyone,

I am a former teacher with a daughter marching her second year of drum corps. I have a question and would love to see some heartfelt and realistic discussion. At what point does the staff go from teaching to abusive and what can be done by the performers in this situation? Thank you for your kind response.

That's a very broad and frankly unanswerable question.

If you have a specific concern I suggest you voice it; you can certainly remain anonymous.

  5. Oregon and SCVC have already competed on the same field if not on the same sheets, and I assure you from seeing them both together that if BDB is still within a point or two of SCVC, Oregon has nothing to fear from either of them.

Oregon is only 6 points away from their score at last year's World Class Semifinals, a score that whomped BDB and SCVC. Oregon is, in fact, better than last year and they will whomp them again. I guarantee you. There is nothing to fear on that front if you are an Oregon fan.

Here's something that no one is talking about: this might be one of the best years from 13th place to 19th place in a decade or more. Oregon is plainly better than last year and yet they could finish in the exact same position (Glassmen's absence considered). Mandarins have one of their best productions in years, Troopers are waaay better. The top Open Class corps will certainly beat Cascades, Pioneer, likely Jersey Surf. Higher than that is not automatic this season!

  6. It has to do with the Cadets so it would probably worthwhile to check the Cadets thread before posting, yeah? Don't need to check every thread on DCP, lol.

That's a 75 page thread and this 'incident' has appeared in actual news sources so I don't think it's totally unfair.

  7. Hop's trashing of the south and public airing of problems with a particular school are a major PR problem not just for the Cadets, but for all of drum corps. I'm not offended by what Hop said but if I were a school band director I would think twice before agreeing to host a corps. Doesn't the Cadets have staff who scout this stuff out?

This is the heart of the issue for me. There are only so many high school facilities in the country, and George Hopkins may feel X school isn't up to his standards, but there's another drum corps somewhere that's going to need to stay there someday. This activity's not in a place where you can burn bridges off-hand. Most school districts (in fact, the ones with the best facilities) in the area my corps was based in were completely off limits to us because of issues with other drum corps decades ago.
