  1. Personally, as a performer, if G7 were to break away, I would simply not audition for them. And I know several others who feel the same way.

Which brings me to: Will the G7 corps talent go down if students wish to stay in DCI? If others feel as I do, and if I were of the 2000 auditioning for a corps, I would take my talent to Drum Corps.

Which also means, more corps will have that level of competition, because the students will be going to (as of now), not top 7 corps, therefore you will see better products and talent from all around.

Which means, more people will go to see the good corps, not the G7.

And eventually, maybe G7 would beg to come back.

Maybe we would see a growth in the lower tier corps, and a growth in Dci.

Or Maybe it's the opposite, but I would simply boycott the G7.

  2. Woodwinds in drum corps. There's one thing that boggles my mind, and it's in a question, or two... maybe three, that I can't really answer for myself for the drum corps community.

Will Woodwinds kill the drum corps activity?

Will drum corps fan still go to watch drum corps even if there are woodwinds?

What kind controversy will be expected to spark if having woodwinds in drum corps did get passed by the BoD?

Will anyone in drum corps ever respect the activity again?

Please be mature about it. I may be 19 and will be a drum corps fan when i'm older obviously, but I hate the way the BoD are killing the activity and making modern DCI a big joke to today's old classic drum corps fans and current drum corps advocates and members. I hate to see such an honourable challenging sport go down the drain because of some stupid irrational decisions being made by the BoD. Someone got to step up to the plate and say change it back, I might as well do that when I age out and take a stand at DCI, but something's got to be done NOW before it's to late, and it starts with YOU, the drum corps fans.

Isn't it drum and BUGLE corps. Woodwinds are a no no. I will lose all faith in the world. And DCI, I will never go to a show again.

  3. Do they exist? long story short, I was googling High Voltage Winter Guard. And nothing really came up. No contact information, nothing. just a wikipedia article on haddon heights school.

So ever since I first saw the show with (well i can't fully remember, maybe joe cocker live?) not fully sure. But i've always wanted to march for them. Now, i've come to think that they are an independent A colorguard. However, isn't it just Haddon Heights? so to make this short, is it possible for someone not from haddon heights to march high voltage?

not an informative post (sorry), its late, i'm tired. Any help or info on this guard that to me doesn't exist outside of the show's i've seen them at.

  4. I'm a little confused by your post, OP. You title the thread "Best drum corps of the decade" and then you list as options specific years? HUH? I chose Cavaliers 2002, btw though I enjoyed 2008 Phantom Regiment the most out of the entire decade.

Phantom Regiment was not dominant. I chose the dominant corps. Last year Blue Devils were dominant all the way till finals. Phantom made a late surge and overcame them. Phantom had the most enjoyable show of the decade IMO. This is not most enjoyable competition. The question is, who had the best (score, dominance) and had they been competing in the same show, who would win. If its misunderstood don't get offended. Just how I intended the poll.

  5. In an age of "numbers management", those high scores mean nothing unless you take into account the 12th place corps' score. If that score was a bit on the high side, it's naturally going to inflate everything above it. You can't say one was better than the other when comparing year-to-year.

Besides, you left off Regiment 08 which not only scored well, but had the audience practically wetting their pants the last 45 seconds or so.

How do you reconcile true audience reaction with judges numbers management?

    Garry in Vegas

I'm not trying to reconcile an audience reaction and Phantom was my favorite show of the decade. However, this poll isn't to judge the greatest show of the decade, but the greatest corps. And yes I should have probably took into account the 12th place score in comparison to the 1st place score. However I didn't, I just took the 4 highest scores of the decade. And P.S. even though I didn't like Cadets, I voted for them. They were just too excellent in execution. Kudos to them. Tough call for me between them and the Cavaliers.

    (edit: grammar fixes)

  6. Okay, so lets just assume BD wins with a very high score. Where would they rank against the best Drum Corps of the decade. (Not amount of titles of the decade, but the individual corps this year.) I know Cadets and Cavaliers can make very strong cases for the single year best of the decade. This is not the best show of the decade, just the corps.

  7. Ok, I'm drawing the line here-----no synths in Drum and Bugle corps. No electricity. That's my vote. anyone else?

not to much too it, i say no. if it continues in a few years... I'll stop watching drum corps. easy as that. just stick to the tapes and dvd's i have. I grew up watching my parents videos, and now, this year, i only like about 3 shows. its killing me to see dci and synthesizers.

  8. I have noticed that BD deserves a higher score than HNC, but, it's a big separation, and I just don't see more than a point separation between the shows. BD is better, but I think that on a given night, if BD isn't top notch and HNC is, HNC shouldn't have the one point hurdle, and should probably win. Anyone care to explain why the point differential is so large?, again this is just IMO
