It's goes along the lines of "If I won the lottery I'd donate to the corps, buy my OWN bus for tour...."
-
I was quiet, grabbed a shoulder, and let my fellow members do what they needed to do.
That's a statement that really reminds me of one of the (many) things that drum corps is all about. Even though it's something I can't totally describe with words.
-
That's crazy. I've never heard of it but it reminds me of Focal Dystonia a little with the unresponsive muscles and what not. Both obviously detrimental to anyone wanting to make a career out of music.
-
I'd definitely be a little upset if I had to perform 2 shows within an hour.
Being a bottom corps in regional days sucked bad enough.
....
Thinking about it, it's probably kind of sad that that's my first response. oh well.

I wouldn't exactly call this prayer, but during my rookie year I used to fall asleep most nights fantasizing about how nice it would be if I died painlessly in my sleep so I wouldn't have to get up in the morning and do circle drill. People who have had Brian Soules as a visual instructor might know what I am talking about. The man was merciless.
lolz
See I'd have nightmares and would wake up to find that I had been counting kind of out loud.

Always thought DCI was a pagan group with their own set of gods.
The Box 5 Gods Shower, Housing Site, and Score. Also who could forget the Rain God.
But in reality I have never heard of this. I have seen members of corps pray for other members. Example: Someone's immediate family passed away on tour. Never for a show though.

When you think about it, it seems like more corps are competing for the top 3 than in the past few years. I know almost all corps staff members say "we're going to go for the gold this year" to pump up members, but it just seems like a lot more corps have a more serious tone in their voice when they use that hype. Granted, I've only known what drum corps is for a few years, but it seems like since I've discovered it, corps are either rising to the top, or folding.
-
If I had to pick one I would say Blue Stars because of the staff they are putting together.
I agree with that. Maybe not next to win, but it very well could happen in the next 5 years or so.
-
I think that both corps will fold.
and then for the '10 season form a super corps somewhere between OH and SC
-
Bluecoats are a more consistent group. If I were a betting man, I would put money on the more stable of the 2. This is why I say the Bluecoats are the most likely next new champion.
Although I'm all one for data, you also have to look at how many years each corps has been around.

I will at least give DCI kudos from dropping the word "Classic" from "The Countdown", as this year's version is anything but.
Whether or not I go will depend on how bored I am that evening, and what friends of mine are going.
Definitely agree with everything said there. I own the DVDs of the years (and marched most) that are being shown so whether or not I go will be decided on more of a social factor. Just as good for me, I'm willing to pay $10 to see old friends.
-
There's a group of at least 15 in the corps I'm in now that will age out with 6+ years. Not a lot singly, but when added together it's pretty impressive
-
I agree in saying that I'm not that sure that either that Crown or Bluecoats (the two favs I guess) will be the next ones, but I really do see them as the corps to shake things up in the next few years.
I definitely see Cadets coming back with a vengeance this year, and I'm definitely not in the position to welcome this marching where I march.
....
whoops, left out a few words that allow this to make sense..
-
Yeah I agree. Fold. Rookies are the death of a drum corps.
-
Fact
I have been a victim.
Dark days. Very dark days.

That's actually a really good idea. Props to whoever came up with that.
Can I auction my spot in show warm up? Proceeds benefiting my tour fees?

Personal accountability, and work ethic.
It's taught me to be VERY AFRAID if I come up short on something I was supposed to do. How to be scared poop-less because of an unknown punishment I guess. I don't think that I could have learned more personal accountability from anything/anyone else than the disappointed caption head shaking their head or screaming at a person across the arc. I've learned the fear of how me not doing my best will affect others.
All in all it's taught me hard work and how to become very aware of every little movement in my lower body.

The UV lights on the equipment truck might look like they're trying to grow something else.
Maybe the chia shakos are more suited for BD.
-
Definitely. My only question for them is how to grow it considering they need light.
Rumor in '07 was there was a horse crew that took care of a horse all summer to be released on finals night
Maybe the rumor this year will be that there's a shako crew that's responsible for watering and pruning of the shakos...
Seems plausible.
-
Don't some corps actually have someone paid to work the truck all summer? Not a whole staff but a single person to oversee what goes on and the ordering of the food and everything.
-
....through the grapevine something about ruby red shakos and green face paint...
Well I heard that they were having actual grass on their shakos. You know like those little pots of grass that you see in Jamba Juice and stuff?
-
who doesn't love rehearsing/warming up in a place that smells like chocolate, and is within earshot of people screaming and laughing on rollercoasters?
-
i fit everything into 1 moderately sized suitcase. airmattress, sleeping bag, and clothing included.

I've been waiting for someone to play something from Serenada Schizophrana forever. I'm excited.
Who will be the next to win?

I'd say if Bluecoats keep having brass 'moments' like the hit in their ballad, they've got a shot. But I just like loud
