  1. If I remember correctly, you're form Ohio, right? The e-mail says that a final decision will be announced tomorrow. The date on this e-mail seems to be in the morning, so if tomorrow's e-mail is the same you should have plenty of time to act on it.

Good call. I have a feeling it wont be called off, weather channel is showing less than an inch of snow for you guys.

  2. Memphis Sound is excited to announce the appointment of Corey Smith as Corps Director. Corey has a broad background in drum corps beginning with two years as a marching member in Memphis Blues, then marching three years with the 27th Lancers and finally two years with the Madison Scouts, aging out with them in their 1988 championship season. Additionally, Corey performed with the Thunderbolts Winter Guard from Cedarburg, WI. He was also a member of the 2006 Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Corps.

A native of Southaven, MS, Corey attended the University of Memphis where he was a member of the marching and concert bands playing baritone and trombone. During his time at the University, Corey also performed with their winter guard and was Color Guard Captain. His focus of studies included majoring in English with a minor in Business.

Corey has taught and judged high school marching bands for almost twenty years. He taught in Tennessee, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Arkansas, including a 3-time Arkansas Governor's Cup Champoin. His judging has been mainly in the AR/TN/MS area. He has also performed with musical groups at Berkeley and Juilliard in New York City and at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

For 13 years Corey worked for Harrah's Casino and then Resorts, Entertainment. He progressed from table games dealer, to supervisor, to Manager on Duty and finally, to Assistant Casino (Games) Manager. Most recently he was the Tour Director for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from February to September 2007.

Memphis Sound is excited to have Corey at the helm and looking forward to building upon the success of its championship season in 2007.

  4. Music for All Critical Evidence: How the Arts Benefit Student Achievement

This isn't directly about junior drum corps, and yet it is...because what happens in the schools eventually will and does affect the drum corps community...quite directly.

I encourage all to download this study and contemplate it. Send it to others and encourage them to read it. Use it when you hear of school boards thinking of eliminating arts programs. Present it to doubters who question the value of the arts in schools.

I believe there isn't a soul marching drum corps who wouldn't be positively or negatively affected somehow by the presence or absence of the arts in their community.

We as drum corps fans do not live in a vacuum. I think this study aptly demonstrates that.

    Just finished reading.

I think I'm gonna go thank my parents for letting me choose band over soccer in 6th grade.

    Thanks boo!

  5. Cape Cod, nice. I still think it isn't much of a hike, but maybe you can try Northern Lights? They're a brand new corps starting up in Rhode Island, and I'm sure they can use some members. I support newer corps, for all we know they could the be the Spirit of Disney winners of tomorrow!

That IS far, but we've had a member from Ohio before, and we currently have a member or two from York (right in the middle of Pennsylvania). It's manageable, but you may want to stay with a local member this summer when we're not on tour, to avoid having to make the drive every week. I live in Bergen County, but I doubt my family would like having a stranger living with them.

I'm gonna try to stay with some one IF I make it that is.

To be completely honest the 70 page percussion packet has me a tad nervous :mat:

I Just want to march
