  1. OK folks, With the Schenectady and Mohonasen high school auditions behind us, the guard is looking strong. Currently we are only looking for 4 additional guard members for the competition guard, but a larger guard is always welcomed as members in the corps for parades and exhibitions. another opportunity to auditon for the Excelsior color guard is upon us. The audition crew will be in Pittsfield this evening at the Pittsfield boys and girls club from 6-9pm. Please stop by and check it out if you are interested. Everything will be downstairs in the LightHouse area. Park in lot next to church and go to metal doors at bottom corner of back of Boy's Club. That is our entrance. The requirements for this years guard has a large emphasis on dance. Please come prepared with a 5 minute dance routine. Amazing proficience in dance is not required, but previous dance experience is helpful. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the guard this year will be limited to 12 positions. 10 ensemble positions and 2 soloists. For directions please call, Paul...(413) 281 1216 If you're interested in auditioning or maybe just learning more about Excelsior or the 2008 season, please call 518-708-1107. Thank you
  2. With the interest in this event growing rapidly, I have been asked to also open a dialog for any additional instructor who may wish to help with this event. Compensation available. With Joe Pero Jr as the lead instructor for the workshop, we have already had conversations with two other extremely qualified individuals to assist, but I have been asked to post this and with that, I now open the dialog. Please use the PM function to contact me on this, or you can always contact Excelsior director at director@excelsiordrumcorps.org Thank you.

  5. We just missed out on the Brigs sops, so we are still looking. Only interested in 3 valve G. Anyone selling? director@excelsiordrumcorps.org Thanks
  6. I for one was truly impressed with Derby this year in minicorps. A hell of a performance. Out on the street I heard there show while they were rehearsing and I couldn't pull myself away. Based on that they should be solid.
  7. Working hard on locations for both events. The Brass Musicians Workshop with Joey Pero Jr on Nov. 18 will be in the NY Capital Region area. The website registration should be operational this coming week. The first full corps camp on Nov. 23, 24 and 25 will be in Pittsfield, Mass. Looks solid that The Pittsfield Boys Club and Bershire Community College will both be instrumental facilities during that camp weekend. This camp will be a traditional drum corps camp in every sense. Sleeping accomidations will be at one of these facilities by way of sleping bags and cots, food will be served and by the end of the weekend, we will have 20 hours of rehearsal time already behind us and into the 2008 season. (it was January before we could say that this year!) There is soooo much to do as a competitive corps! (I do not have to tell many of you this....).
  8. EXCELSIOR Drum and Bugle Corps will hold auditions for it 2008 competitive seasons color guard. With class-A limitations in mind, the 2008 competitive color guard will consist of 12 members. 10 ensemble guard positions for both male and female in addition to two soloist for the feature roles of Maid Merian and Robin Hood will be required to perform a 5 minute dance routine of original choreography and/or guard work, equipment is optional. Additional positions will be available for spots in the parade unit color guard as well as the "USO tour on parade" honor guard. Stay alert for more information on audition times and locations. Questions may be addressed to the corps director Donel Mysliwiec at director@excelsiordrumcorps.org. Thank you

The first full corps camp for the season will kick off, on Black Friday, Novemeber 23, 24 and 25. Stay tuned for the Joey Pero Brass Musicians Workshop to be held on November 18. Registration for the brass workshop will soon be available on-line.
  10. Niki, By no means should you consider changing anything because of this thread. If Malaguena is HCB flavor....than play the heck out of it! Lets face it, many great tunes have been played by many great corps, and sometimes they are played for many years in a row! (man I sound like Captain Lassard from the Police Academy movies. many, many, many, many!!LOL) It just so happens that Malaguena was played alot this year...and played well. Do what works for your ensemble and have a great time doing it. And there are no real Malaguena penalties! Cant wait to see you guys out there.
  11. Four Rogers Accu-Sonic Tympani have been purchased and will be the achors to the EXCELSIOR Drum and Bugle Corps Pit percussion section for 2008. As EXCELSIOR journeys to the field of competition in DCA Class-A next season, a 5 member pit will be needed. Several interested and potential performers have already expressed interest and this Tympani purchase is the start of the creation to that reality. Excelsior is also looking for additional pit equipment, anyone knowing of any available equipment that might help EXCELSIOR is asked to please email the Director of the corps with details. Director@excelsiordrumcorps.org Another exciting step in the EXCELSIOR movement. Thanks for reading!
  12. Swami, as always...I learn each time you speak! Thank you for everything. Your humble student Art
  13. Hey Jeff, Sorry to not give props when due. I will not say that there has not been a corps in the area for 20 years any more. I know very well what you are saying about the players in the area driving to corps that are hours away, but loyalty is a bond that often can not be broken. Anyone driving away from the area to march elsewhere, I say god bless 'em. Wish they would come out and play with us, but I truly understand the ties they have. Bytheway, I caught the new Capital Brass show in Rochester....nice! Art
  14. EXCELSIOR Drum and Bugle Corps has signed a three year endorsement deal with Vic Firth, Inc. for exclusive use of Vic Firth sticks and mallets! With help from industry leaders such as Vic Firth, EXCELSIOR will field a Class-A competitive corps in 2008. "We have been looking into several sponsorships and endorsments as we move into the next chapter of the EXCELSIOR evolution. Fielding a competitive drum corps is a monumental task and with Vic Firth as our partner on this journey, we are sure to achieve our goals. Vic Firth drum stick and mallets are of the same high quality and the Vic Firth company has track record of the same professionalism that EXCELSIOR strives for every day. Chuck Moulton, Neil Larivee and Olin Johannessen from Vic Firth have been nothing short of amazing in their speed and continued assistance with getting the corps fully prepared and ready to hit the field next season!" (former Corps Director and current PR manager-Art Cornell) Exciting times for EXCELSIOR. Ever Upwards
