Just now, Cadevilina Crown said:
Crazy theory time:
SCV just may have opened the door for one of the 4-6 corps to "pass" them tomorrow night.
Yeah, I'll be real surprised if this panel doesn't put Crown over SCV tomorrow night.

Nice vocal...uh, enunciations from the horns right in front of the Flo mics right at the end

None of these corps have a show tomorrow. Why can't they do a rain delay show tomorrow? I know they will be thrown off in their scheduling, but aren't they resilient enough to deal with that?
Depending on how far each corps needs to go, you're going to run into issues with drivers running out of hours.

Re: Troopers not in uniform tonight. Saw this response to that question just now on Reddit from one of their members: " We had a bus break down last night with some key components of our uniforms."
Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised if all the corps had been mandated to do non-uniform shows. Maybe there's more tolerance for risk with these newer uniforms than previously (that's not snark - I'm guessing(?) the newer ones are lighter?)

Viv. Truly one of a kind. All DCI volunteers are extremely generous and enthusiastic, but he's in a class of his own.

If I remember right, didn't Glassmen (rip, please come back) scrap Panis Angelicus in 2009 midseason? I vaguely remember hearing it in Atlanta, but that may be some weird Mandela Effect.
Yep, that happened. It was also the third show draft of that year, and that ballad survived about one week on tour before the decision was made to replace it. We didn't learn it until we got to Georgia.

Is Flomarching down for anyone else?

There was a little blurb at the beginning of their 2011 show, right?
It was in the show announcement.

This show is awesome. Not really criticizing the current uniforms, which aren't that bad, but I'm sitting here wondering what it would look like if they had just done the traditional Kelly green tops (pre-2010). Just a thought exercise, I suppose.

BK, with a shift in brass caption head but otherwise the same, I believe:

I know we've all observed the improvement in competitive quality/talent across junior corps over the last few years, but for as good as the USMC corps was a few years ago, they've clearly improved as well.

Appreciate the tenors playing the top 3 Iowa parts this year.

Troopers had no choice but to take the action they did, but OC needs extra props for looking past the press, seeing the situation as we all did in the video, and having the kahunas to step up and make the grab.
Good for them, and for him!
Tim resigning was not due to the situation with the security guard. But all around good pickup for OC, and good for Tim too.

A Friday-Sunday setup likely would not be possible given the current deal with LOS and NFL preseason games.

As I recall, grass field plus a semi-prominent crown. One year I was there it had been raining through the day, but cleared in time for the show. We got out there and it was an ice rink. Here's hoping for a dry night and a dry field.

can't speak on the guard side but a group in their second year (first in wgi) got the silver in percussion independent a. Just a staff of recent ageouts
Similarly, a first year group won PIA in 2011.

For those referencing hornline sound: the new brass staff there is a bunch of pre-2010 Cavaliers staff, aka 2011 Vanguard staff as well. I'll be curious to see where they go volume-wise. In the moments of characteristic George lush arrangement, though, I think they are going to sound glorious.

I'm homering this one a bit, but I'd like to throw SCV 11 out there for visual difficulty, as well as music ensemble difficulty, both to (extreme, perhaps?) excess.

I have a used, fully functional Yamaha YEP 202M Marching Euphonium for sale (via eBay). I bought this horn in 2009 from the Madison Scouts, who used it from 2005 to 2007. It has only seen light use in the last few years, as I used it to practice between drum corps camps myself. All slides and valves are fully functional and very fast. Compression is excellent. This horn is a great example of why Yamaha sets the standard in marching brass instruments.
As you can see in the pictures (please view the eBay listing), there is some plating wear around the valve cluster, one minor ping on the leadpipe and one ping at the very beginning of the bell tail, which were all from before I received the instrument. None of these issues affects the playability of the instrument.
This instrument is being sold as-is with no returns accepted. Buyer pays flat shipping rate of $50.00, which will include insurance for the cost of the instrument. Please contact me at patrick.gauding AT gmail DOT com with any questions.

SCV DID have an all-male hornline until sometime in the early 80s. It's still a sore point in Vanguard history for a lot of people.
It is what it is. It's a performance activity, and the groups can choose whatever criteria they like. Just because you're some super-vet doesn't mean your position will exist next year (see also: Madison cymbal line circa 2010.) Nothing's guaranteed.
